[cite]Posted By: PeakieRocket[/cite]Going back to the substitutions - why stick Holland on the wing? Surely Zheng and Bailey out wide would have been better options.

He wanted to keep someone in the hole behind Kandol, rather than 5 straight across the middle. Zheng is probably the only one that could do that, apart from maybe Bailey, but someone had to play on the left.

I thought the same but felt they could have stuck Spring behind the striker and given us better balance than what we had. Holland on the wing is just gave their full back license to push forward and put even more pressure on us.

HE COULD HAVE LEFT JONJO WHERE HE WAS INSTEAD OF MAROONING HIM OUT WiDE

Don't be silly! If you put Holland in his natural center position you might stop the oppostition from running unabated down the middle of the pitch to score goals. Much better to further unbalance the side
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]Anyone know if any of the good League One or League Two strikers out of contract?[/quote]

Billy Clarke will be out of contract at Ipswich, he's been on loan at various clubs league two this season and doing well. Would certainly be a bit of a gamble & we wouldn't to rely on him being first choice but he could be useful. From what I've read Ipswich fans want to keep him too so they must think he's ok. Sounds like he's 110% effort player as well.
  • couple of articles I read on him the other day:

  • I thought that Burton had a decent game- yet again, his link up play is excellent. How often does he give the ball away?- very rarely and is always looking to bring other pepole into the game which is why he DOESN'T work in the formation that Parky uses him in- he needs a runner to feed the ball to. Someone like Dickson would be perfect foil for him but they are never played long enough together to build an understanding. I would have a diamond midfield with Shelvey at it's tip playing just behind two strikers. I liked what I saw of Tuna on Saturday and can't believe that he didn't get any sort of run out last night. Stick Solly in as well to blood them for next season and drop the loanees (except Ward otherwise we are short on numbers at the back!). Hudson will go in the summer as will Gray and ZZ
  • Looks like Burton will do well in midfield, then.

Now that's sorted, all we need is a striker who scores goals ..... right ?

    ;o)

I've long thought that with the player we have (i.e. no wingers, attack minded full backs, loads of central midfielders) that a diamond formation of would suit us.

    Semedo
    Racon, Bailey
    Shelvey

Youga and Moot2 provide the width.

All accodemic now cos most of those player will probably won't be herer next season.
  • Bit late I know (been busy!).....but Gray and Burton could work together. Neither Mendonca or Hunt had pace but they worked well together. A grade lower down and I can see Gray and Burton being pretty good. Get the ball in the box and we'd be ok, plus they'd be great at taking the pressure off and getting Sam, Bailey et al in the game. Got to keep them first though eh?
  • I didn't like them together at the time, but then I didn't know much about Gray's personal issues and he may have been carrying an injury?

With the right midfield and full backs behind them it may work, hoofing it up to them and not getting balls into the box it wouldn't.

We'd have to have a couple of strikers with pace if it wasn't working as well.

I'd still prefer the idea of Burton or similar alongside a goalscorer, a poacher who could run at and in behind defences though.

  • Surely Gray would break the budget to keep him. Moo2 will be gone unless Parky goes first. I'd imagine Semedo will be 1st choice right back if Moo2 goes, but he gets forward well.
  • Yeah I'd like to see Semedo at right back, will do a good job there.
  • if he's not injured... I'd prefer Solly
