Large asked "where did this snippet of 'news' come from Nigel ?''
Can't say, Large but it's Welsh and considerably closer than the next-door-neighbour of the grandmother of the girl who's having it off with the Cardiff team doctor, or whatever the usual source of these things is !
Put it this way, at least one of the journos who used to work for me when I was news editor now lives in Wales. I think if you ask any of the travelling Welsh reporters at the game tonight, they will tell you Cardiff hope to capture Hudson.
As BRE says, they were sniffing around in January and now we're down are ready to move in for the kill. Unless they get an unlikely promotion via the play-offs, in which case I suspect they will turn their attentions a little higher than Hudson.
As to his wages, I'm sure you are right and he is on more than 5k a week. I was merely being conservative in my estimate because I didn't want to get chewed up and spat out by the big beasts like poor old Seth Plum did for floating a sum that could not be substantiated. The main point I was making was that if RM says we only have 10k a week for the entire back four next season, Hudson is beyond our price bracket, whether he takes up 50 per cent or 120 per cent of that sum, or anything in between.
What is interesting about the recent postings is that it is of concern how much staff are getting paid, and whether the club can afford it, and ultimately where your season ticket money ends up. This has been the consistent theme in the thread about Steve Waggotts wages. In order to know more I took advice and e-mailed Steve Waggott, but got no reply.
The interview with hudson on the way home really pissed me off, What that block headed toss pot should have been saying was
As club Captain i am extreemly sorry for letting the fans down, I will be staying put and fighting to get this club back into the 2nd division next season,
instead he came across like a toss pot who doesnt give a shit (sorry abou the language this tme of the day)
When the journo asked him
"What about Mark Hudson surely he doesnt want to play in the 3 tier"
"I want to play at the highest level i can"
You are at your level you mug you cost us more points than any other defender i have seen including Youga and i hold you as one of the reasons why we are in the position we are in, I hope to god i get close enough to you at Derby to tell you what a big block headed useless Captain money grabbing no good unloyal tosser you are
another player, and there have been plenty of them , who have been coached/managed down to the worst level of football that they can play....
there is something seriously wrong with our coaching set up etc cos we've gone down with players that WILL be playing in the championship next season
still at least we are consistant and get the worst out of most of our players ....DISGRACEFUL
i'd like him to stay (but finances will dictate that not the dreamy bollox of loyalty to any football club) cos i'm pretty sure his replacement wont be as good
[quote][cite]Posted By: seth plum[/cite]Heard his actual voice on the wireless, have not seen the official site (and it's spin?), but to say he seemed to be ambivalent about staying fron the BBC London interview slice I heard would be true.[/quote]
Id take both with a large pinch of salt, we shall see. Websites are spun, interviews carved up, same old same old.
Pretty solid, but prone to errors and not a very good captain when the chips have been really down this season. Goodbye, good luck and hope we can get £750k-£1m for you.
I think Elliott should be captain - He has the most desire to win games. I'd like to see Hudson stay but his mistake a game style would get us relegated again.
If somebody puts a reasonable bid in, no doubt the Board will accept.
Their outlay has been £x,000 signing on fee, plus £x,000 per week contracted wages.
They've paid him only 8 win bonuses all season, so they've saved money there, lol
If he goes for £500k, which is probably around our fire sale price, incredibly the Board might even show a small profit on the deal, taking into account his 'running costs'. Not bad for a player who can't run.
[cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]He is, but the board said at the shareholders meeting we want to offer him a new deal.
If Foutune does stay, he HAS to finally step it up and become the centre back he has been threating to be over the last 8 years or so. I really thought when we came down from the prem he would step up and be the rock we have missed since Rufus sad early retirement, but sadly yet again he blows hot and cold week in week out, i know injuries have fecked him again and again but surely in league one he would be head and shoulders above most of the ugly brut centre backs that await us.

;o)
And £500k won't be bad money we signed on a free...

That's what I want to see. He might even have a chance of being our new captain. If he stays he'll be doing it to help us back up, because he should be far too good for League One.
Sam is another one I'd really like to see push on. He's got to start scoring a few goals and find some consistency with his final ball.
If those 2 stay they could be so important for us next season if they really push on.

I'm not keen on keepers as captains.
Quite agree. Peter Shilton was a crap skipper for England ..... ;o)
Seriously, I feel it's not so much the position of the skipper, but the way the team respond to him.
So overall, down to the respect he's held at the club as a person and player - and that he's actually a leader of men.
Sometimes the fiery, all action ballwinner midfield dynamo makes a good skipper - but it's not just about gung-ho, sometimes he can get caught up in the heat of the moment.
Often it's the cool-headed, mature player that's looked up to in the club; the leader who quietly talks to players, passes instructions,
the pat on the back ....... the manager on the field, who makes the best skipper.
But sitting away from the action in the middle of the pitch, supporters wouldn't always be aware of this.
I think Murty is pretty much effectively finished through injury isn't he?
Bailey won't stay but if he did I wouldn't mind seeing him as captain.
Fortune was unlucky this season, before he got injured I felt he was finally finding consistency and was looking very solid at this level. I might be wrong but didn't thing get considerably worse after he got injured?
As for Hudson, I'd expect him to be more than able to perform at div 3 level and wouldn't mind if he stayed.
i cant honestly remember the last time we had 2 decent wingers maybe robbo and newts but we never seem to play with wingers, thought romm was going to be the answer shows what i know.. i think and hope a new manager would adopt the norm, 2 half decent wingers, a rock in the middle to break things up and put in tackles and flair creative player ala Jonjo with big man small man up front, solid back four centre backs need to be 6 foot plus and not scared of the ball full backs need to have an eye for going forward but defending is there main job, we have to many players who cant do the basics look at youg and hudson as prime examples could you imagine a cloughie or fergie letting players put in perfomances like we have seen, how yougs and a few others have played 40 plus games is beyond me.

I want to help Charlton get out of this mess!!
£375k-£500k

If Hudson can't run, where does that leave Todorov?

I like Fortune, but he is very laid back - sometimes I wish he'd just catch fire and show what he can do when roused.
I forgot, he did once - he nutted that Ipswich striker at the final whistle, and got red-carded for his trouble.
So he can do it .... !
I'm not keen on keepers as captains.

Ideal Charlton signing in that case.
We'd still have seen more of him than poor old Corey Gibbs
Murty is of similar age and as prone to injuries, so would not expect him to be ahead in the pecking order over Holland.
Nick Nailey has been our hardest working player, not perfect, but has an eye for goal and leads by example.
He gives away too many needless free kicks with some atrocious decision making with his tackling, can't fault his commitment and goals though.
Need to pair up Shelvey with someone new who can compliment him and, play two up and get another wide player in my humble opinion.
