I recently remarked that in hindsight the club missed a trick when Curbs left us and picking up on oohaahmtimer's comment I actually said that this shold have been the case, although going further and once someone new came in have Curbs mentoring them for the first year before he left.

A good idea in theory and it might have worked if we were promoting a coach to manager (I think Crewe did something similar when Dario Gradi retired), but we were a premiership club at the time. Could you really see any self-respecting manager wanting to manage the club while Curbs was still around?

curbs was also asked what job offers he had whilst charlton manager
he said west ham had made an approach(end of redknapps era approx 2001) and curbs had already verbally agreed a new 3 year contract with murray and said he was happy to stay at charlton
birmingham job was offered to him and i think he said qpr as well

he was asked would he ever manage palace
he said you've got to be kidding that place is impossible to get to
