i thought we didn't like the tag of little ol charlton but now we are resigning ourselves to saying that's who we are since we didn't make curbs stay. we are better than that.
Hull,Middlesbrough,Fulham,Sunderland,Newcastle,WBA,Stoke,Blackburn,Portsmouth wont be in the Prem for ever. Hopefully we wont be too long in League 1.
I am also pleased that clubs such as us and those above have the experience as well. I just wish it wasnt so painfully difficult to deal with relegation from the Prem these days as it is. Its no coincidence that Southampton,Norwich,Charlton and Watford are where they are.
I personally do think that clubs have a 'natural' level which is only artificially altered by big money coming in eg Abrahamovic,Gibson,Walker,Whelan etc.
clubs like Charlton get their success and provide their fans with memorable seasons when they are promoted (with the odd cup run). Not from staying mid table whether in the top tier or second tier.

or a ridiculously brilliant manager e.g CURBISHLEY

As I've said before the further we plummet under successive managers the more evident the magnificent job Curbishley did for us.
I can remember posting on netaddicks that some wouldn't appreciate him until he had gone in response to the "CURBS OUT" and "boring 4-5-1" crowd.
Len, I remember that post on NetAddicks and it caused some disagreement. The level of the fall in attendances will be all important next season. The first six games will also be important. It's too early for predictions; we will have more idea when we see the departures and arrivals.

True
We have a history that goes back before 1998 and Sasa's save. We have a history that goes back before the portacabins and ground sharing.
We have been in the top flight under other managers than Curbs. Great job that he did but he is not unique in having taking us up.
We are where we deserve to be now just as we were where we deserved to be when we were in the Premiership. At the end of next season we will be where we deserve to be then depending on how the team does on the pitch. So it goes.
Change the record, Curbishley's history, still out of a job I believe. Third Division football is our 'natural position' for the foreseeable future, how we deal with that is all that matters.

Poor crowds next season .... ? Yep, they'll plummet if we get off to a poor start or just inconsistant, playing someone like Crewe or Northampton on a rainy Tuesday night won't appeal.
But if we are able to get it together, and the team go on one of their long unbeaten runs with a position around the promotion places, then watch the crowds - and dare I say it, anticipation and excitement return.
We were talking about teams we used to play a lot in the 'good old days'. In the 70s and 80s it was Leyton Orient - or just Orient as they wanted to be known then. We came to the conclusion that the seasons we didn't play them it was cause they were in the league above us. When I got back to Marylebone last night from Coventry went in to the Alsop hoping to see the second half of a Millwall trashing by Peterboro. There were some Orient "lads" there celebrating staying in the 1st Div! I am not sure next season will be a cakewalk....

and you can't get promotions without relegations!

My bets are about as successful as Paul Merson's :-)
Backed Ward as first scorer against Brum at 33-1. Thank you linesman!!
