Unless we address the problem of our pathetic strike force imho we can forget about a quick return to the championship next season. I think we need two who will score 15 - 20+ goals next season and I am sorry to say we havn`t got one never mind two. The standard is lower I know but does anyone here see what we have on the books including Kandol scoring enough goals ? I know we can expect a turn around in squad next season but it will be difficult to pluck those two strikers we need out of the hat. Does anyone think this assessment is too pessimistic ?

Bartlett who was excellent in the role was unfairly maligned.
I thought Kandol was effective on the whole but a couple of errors stood out (eg the shot he put out for a goal kick in the 2nd half) and the errors are what are remembered.
In 4-5-1 though the team is set up to get the midfielders scoring, and Kandol (or Burton) holding up the ball, winning headers etc. He's not there to be the main goalscorer.
And yeah without some good strikers we won't finish any higher than mid table in League One. I don't see any of the strikers here capable of guaranteeing 15-20 goals a season.
His Uncle wouldn't though !
ive lost weight, can't speak for tinky winky
judging by AFKA's Facebook status update a moment ago - it seems unlikely!!
Simon Cox - 25
Rickie Lambert - 25
Matt Fryatt - 24
Gary Hooper - 24
Jermaine Beckford - 23
Craig Mackail-Smith - 21
Lee Hughes - 18
Aaron McLean - 16
Is that list that impressive?
In the championship last year, Matt Fryatt got 2 goals in 30 appearances.
Gary Hooper was loaned out to league two teams while scunny were in the Championship.
Lambert scored 13 goals in 46 apps last year and 8 in 36 the year before that, since joining from Rochdale.
I think burton, mcleod and dickson will get some goals next year. I would not be surprise if at least one of them hit 15.
We need another striker, but there's also a few players in that list who have made the step up from league two pretty easily (eg Hooper, Mclean, mackail-smith) so that's a good place to start looking.
there are plenty of changes coming, but lets keep the faith and renew season tickets early so we can snap up our new striker! does this post make me a bit geeky? ;0)
It's possible, but I don't get the feeling from any of them that we know they will definitely score at least 15.
Good post and offers hope at least that what we have might produce but we need a 25 goal man plus another striker to get 15 or so. Not sure we have that combination.
Last season, in just 14 matches for Gillingham, Dickson scored 11 goals.
These players have proved they can finish at Third Division level.
Burton isn't going to score 15 goals a season next year, Dickson might, but that depends on the service he gets, who plays alongside him and whether we'll play to his strengths. Who was his strike partner at Gillingham?
Burton: it would be interesting to find out how Burton scored his 15 goals in Wednesday's promotion year.
He evidently wasn't playing as a lone forward - so must have had a reasonable service, playing to his strengths.
Neon's record haul was 13 from 44 starts in a promotion winning team.
Saw Steve Gritt outside the ground before the game, we asked him if he was on the bench, he just came out and said no. He explained (as we expected) it was more about the experience of being around the squad.
He's only a first year, so 17 this season. He's been in and around the reserves a few times, as has Lewis Perkins, the other first year striker. Don't think either of them have scored loads, but they've done ok.
