How to make the Valley a fortress next season?

edited March 2009 in General Charlton
After coming away from the valley on saturday i relised how much life has been sucked out of all of us in the valley. I sit in H block and when i sit there 10 mins in the game i think how we are going to make the valley a louder place next season.

Here are 3 suggestions i think could make the valley louder.

1) Move Home fans into the jimmy seed stand with the low roof it adds real noise to the fans singing out of it. Away fans moved to the east stand the side closest to the jimmy seed stand.

2) Leave Paper clappers on seats this generates alot of sound from a simple movement on the clapper. (Works well at fulham and gets the players going more)

3)Before the games start generate more of a buzz play valley flloyd road, get rid of the childs voice playing just as the players kick off if it has to be played play it at half time.

I am passioniate about making our valley a fortress and would love the powers that be to take action to improve the atmoshpere at the valley. If any one has views please post and i would love this to be passed on the to charlton directors and people who can make this happen.

  • You forgot battlements. Every good fortress needs battlements, and maybe a cannon or two
  • Certainly a constructive post No1. Fully support your ideas in some form or another. Would be easier I suspect next season to shift fans what with smaller crowds. I do however think that at least 75% of atmosphere generation has to start on the pitch. Hopefully that will be the case.
  • I'm not so sure about moving fans in the Jimmy Seed end, simply because in League One we are going to have fewer fans and spreading them out over a wider area will diminish volume rather than increase it.

We could try and designate some blocks in the lower and upper north to be singing blocks. If those who are likely to make some noise can congregate in an area that should improve volume and the atmosphere.
  • Thank you for your repley shooters. I have written to mick everett who in charge of staduim operations so hopefully will get a response. I know the players need to do the buisness on the pitch but there has to be ways we can make more noise. Kigelia glad you still have a sense of humour.

Got to agree with you. At least stop all this bloody 'build up' music 10 Minutes before kick off .
  • I agress with that Blackforest , however unsure how the club would orginise that. I think moving the fans to the east stand would work as the jimmy seed stand would give us another place to have a drum etc at the back and north and south stands can create plenty of volume and the team would always be kicking towards us;

I believe the arranging of 'singing blocks' has already been mooted with the club.

Perhaps, if we are going to get reduced crowds, this could be a designated area - all you need to do is show your ST/home seating match ticket to stewards on a gate within the stand to let you in ... ?
  • Thank you for your responses. Something needs to be done in time for next season. We need to make it count having the best staduim in league 1. I would love to hear more noise next season and for the club to take action to help create a better buzz/match day experince for everyone.
  • Bear in mind that in league 1 we will be everyones cup final next season. Fortress might be difficult to achieve
  • Best Stadium ? Unless Leeds get promoted I think not ;0)

  • Yeh exactly so we need to show all the teams waht we are all about and make alot of noise. Next season is all all about the real die hard fans turning up week in week out. So the club needs to get the fans that want to sing together to make the noise and intimidate away teams. Elland road is not as good as the valley;

I honestly think we can make it happen.
  • Elland rd might be bigger but it is a dump
  • Dig a moat around the ground and pull up the drawbridge?
  • Is that with us on the inside or outside, Nigel?
  • Bring back standing!
  • Would suggest having the NW corner or first 3 blocks of the East closet to the Jimmy Seed not used (unless demand requires it) just simply to fill the rest of the stadium up and cut costs.

Inside, March. It's Waggot's secret plan to stop lapsing S/T holders from escaping!
  • That's alright then. Had visions of having to climb in and over the men's bogs at the Sam Bartram gate again. Couldn't do it now; too fat and I've got me trouble as well!
  • Good to see some ideas coming up. Get on to the fans forum about it. That's what they are there for IMHO at least and they have direct contact with the club to raise ideas and get answers.

The move home fans to the Jimmy Seed Stand issue has been raised before

See this article from the blog http://www.charltonlife.com/blog/?p=169

But with demotion it might be worth revisiting although I still feel that many of the issues remain.

I thought the childs voice had been moved anyway

Totally agree about playing VFR as the teams as about to KO so that we carry on singing. May not work and may take a few times to catch on but worth a try.
  • Do what the italians do and have 1 or 2 on the loudhalers directing the singing?

It would get everyone singing the same song instead of 2 or 3 diff ones!

Plus other stands would join in..........Mmmmmmmmmmmmm Maybe not?

    What do you think?

  • Would need FogHorn Leghorn behind the laughaler for the west stand !
  • Stick a couple of archers on the roof of the west stand with strict orders to let fly at anyone getting anywhere near our goal - oh, and Kelly Yogi Bear.

That area has a lift at the back for the wheelchair users and others with disability. Agree with what you are trying to achieve but there are some practical problems.

Personally would love to see a standing area.
  • Win a few games might help
  • Good to get everyones views, Nice to see everything still has a bit of humour about them. I like the ideas coming out. I like the sound of the people directing the songs coming through like the italians, Would love to see jimmy seed stand full of home fans. They should make the stand sing only and you have to wear red that would add buzz. Then we could have jimmy seed and north stand songs at each other..
  • Why should home fans sit in the worst stand with the worst facilities in the ground?

I'm happy where I am thanks.
  • [cite]Posted By: BlackForestReds[/cite]Bring back standing!

Could we do that? Or is it just clubs that have noit yet converted?

Close the upper West, East Stand block A & H,especially if ST sales are down 7,500.
  • Its againest health and safety standing now. We would sit in the jummiy seed to create more atmosphere who cares about the facilities its about whether that buzz can be created and get the team winning being that 12th man. Have your pie after the game. We need to get back to the championship quick as then rebuild!!
  • HOW TO MAKE THE VALLEY A FORTRESS NEXT SEASON:

1] Snipers atop the north stand sniping any ball remotely coming near the goal we are defending.

2] Land Mines around the 18 yard box

3] Spies in the enemies teams - i.e Agents.

4] Scouts behind the floods to see the attacks coming

5] A couple of Warrior tanks to deal some real damage.

    BAM Fortressed
  • Very creative and constructive.
