[cite]Posted By: kakaka[/cite]My fear is that we just came up against very poor side yesterday.
Or did we make them look bad?
Plymouth weren't the best, but most teams we play haven't been anything special. Yesterday we played football in a way we haven't done for months. We could have easily scored 6 or 7, reminded me of Reading game. Hopefully we can keep it that sort of performance up now.
great post oggy. I have been saying for weeks that we are down and out, only because we looked like a side who didn't know where the next goal was coming from.
Yesterday #howed what is possible if you are more direct and play to your strenghts. You can only beat the team that is on the pitch with you at the time take every game as it comes and try to accumulate as many points as you can from that game, whether it as 3 or just 1. Its pointless predicting how many points are necessary to stay up, all that matters is that we get another 7 points more than the bottom 3 teams.

wow - it must have been a good valentines day for you golfie ;o)
seriously though excellent post and you are so true that all that matters is that we end up out of the bottom 3 whatever points total that is.
Both Oggy and Golfie are spot on, and the fact one win makes many people change their minds makes it look ridiculous how many said we were down FACT before this game.
We still need to improve massively though, no one should forget that. Plymouth were as poor as we will face.
ONe swallow dus not make a summer - and all that bollox
But YES WE CAN
NB - I've not just jumped on the bandwagon, thought we could before Palace, god knows what brought me to that conclusion - maybe having so much negativety I gave up on negativity and thought why not?! still think its unlukley but deff have that belief that we can and a stupid voice in my head sayin we will - I think its called being a fan?!
This is real Charlton stuff - scrapping through, just, against all the odds (I hope) and surviving
I don't believe we will stay up, but look at the run that Doncaster have been on and we have a better team than them. What yesterday did was reignite hope, not expectation
Whether we stay up or go down is partly about the teams we have to play and getting something out the six pointers, but ultimately it's down to whether the players have the belief and self-confidence to think they can do it. If they think they can and are prepared to dig in to get the odd late equaliser/winner will determine whether it happens or not. Hopefully Parky will be playing a settled team from here on and that will help too.
still don't think we'll stay up but there's a small amount of hope... beat barnsley and i'll start studying the tables a bit more..... get to within 3 points of safety then i'll be all over who is playing who...
but for the time being i'm expecting the worse ;-(
it looked for a while like we would have over 2 months of football where we had nothing to play for. That would have been depressing and a new low, even by this season's standards. At least we still have a little belief and something to play for (as this thread shows).
Both watford and barnsley have two games in hand on us, which could be a problem.
Just wondering for a minute if we might pull off the great escape is a good feeling! 3 points on saturday and see where we are!
It can be done, there are a few things that are in our favour:
1.We play all of the teams in and around us, we know what we have to do, that would settle for a point, however by having this mentallty can be dangerous in which we have seen teams lose games on many occasions
2.With a squad such as ours we can rotate our team,i.e bring in JJ and ZZ, and would not make the team weaker.
3.Playing the top three when we do can also go in our favour as they will be a bit more jittery than they would have been in October, November, Decmeber when they was more relaxed and playing free flowing football
4. The players are now gaining confidence where others such as Plymouth and Barnsley's players are now losing confidence, i should imagian that the season cannot finish quick enough for them
5. It is still in our own hands, go out there, treat every game like a cup final, attack from the start, and keep things tight when you get in front.
One thing that may dent our momentum (can you have momentum after only one game?) is the lack of central defensive cover, Holland is not the answer, nor is ZZ. Dare I say it, we need a loan in, especially with Hudson on 4 yellows.
The fact that we now look like we can go up the other end and score alters the dynamics significantly. The current side, with ZZ (and Semedo) to come back, JJ & Sam waiting in the wings is looking stronger on paper and two wins at least in the next three are do-able. Confidence would come flooding back and I don't believe there's any side in the division that isn't beatable, although Swansea would be a big ask if they aren't looking over their shoulder at the cup.

Barring the forced change of Hudson (due to injury) and Youga (suspended) yesterdays team was the same that started at Bristol City 11 days ago.

Take off your rose colour spectacles and face it. It's all over. There is no way we can get back 10 points.
I'm a realist and anyone who disagrees with me is deluded.
