I'd like to think we can stay up but I think its too late. I just hope between now and the end of the season we play well get a few results and then if on the last day of the season we have a chance then I'll be happy
Looking at the games left - think we could grab at least 21 points.... Will be a tough decider game vs Norwich at the Valley I believe that the season will not be decided until the last game.
[cite]Posted By: PeteF[/cite]it will need title winning form....
Disagree - The teams around us will struggle as well so if we can pick up at least 20 points by the end of the season you never know. It's a big if though.
Yes, if the teams immediately above us get a max of 14 points in the run-in (likely) and we get 20 plus then the decider will go down to the last match....
We still have to play most of the teams around us, so there is every chance. I think we will need to win 3 on the bounce at some point to get in the pack(which may be tricky given our away form) then if that happens then we will have the confidence to just scrape up.
Yes we can. It won't be easy but if we get the defence right then the midfield & strikers that played today (plus ZiZi) would be good enough to get us some goals. The next game v Barnsley is massive, absolute MUST win. If we pulled that off and moved to within 4 points of some of safety, and got off the bottom to boot then why not. My big worry is that our loan players who are looking good for once get recalled by their respective clubs and we have to start from scratch again....oh for 6 points from those Burnley & Brizzle games - things would be so different now!
Really don't wanna put a downer on a good effort today but we'll also be relying on other teams playing like Plymouth did today.
Plus Barnsley and watford have 2 games in hand on us.
At least today's given us a little belief to hang on to. But can't see it myself.
It is very important that if we were to go down that we went down with an elemant of form we need to play like that for the rest of the season a huge ask IMO but if we do i think it may be close but no cigar i am afraid to say
Mathmatically we can, but realistically, no we cannot. However the performance and players in the side yesterday, make me confident that if we do go down, we'll win the division next year if we keep the majority of the 16 who were picked yesterday.
[cite]Posted By: Show_Me_The_Mouni[/cite]7 Points off safety with one game in hand on Norwich and 14 games to be played. Can we actually stay up?? I'm starting to believe we can.
I still hold out hope, its a huge task but if Parky sticks with this team and we get some luck and a couple of results go for us , then 'yes'.
Southampton are down imho.
and thats 24 points. Jeez its stressy. One game at a time.
That is the key. Our fixtures help a bit , we need as always to beat the teams around us and
they need to have a mixed bag of results , but if we win the 6 pointers , the escape is on.
I really think it could be an epic last game.
We're gonna have to rely on other teams going into freefall, IMHO. BUT we have to play like we did yesterday for the rest of the season to give ourselves a chance.

At least 4 won't Kandol, Murty, Ward, Soares.
Hudson, I would expect to go. From a squad perspective, we'll lose ZZ and Ambrose, off load Todorov.
The answer is a definite no. Yesterday raised our spirits but the form over the whole season says that we will be relegated. Back to back to back wins will be needed. Can you see it ? Neither can I.

We still have a reasonable chance. Why?
Because as Nelse said, we have to play the 6 pointers.
So it's in our own hands.
The Argyle match was a 6 pointer - and we put the points in the bag.
Next week we play Barnsley another 6 pointer.
Should we win that, we are truly back in business.
Even a point keeps us hanging in there.
But a defeat would see Barnsley step away from us.
So the team know what they must do.
One game at a time - and safety is very do-able.
Try to guess how many wins/points you need for safety (which is a pointless unknowable figure anyway) and you create a psychological mountain so high you can't even even imagine reaching the top, which is what the self-appointed 'Realists' and Doomsters are doing.
But we can't play 14 games at once, so let's just tackle the next game.
I've slapped myself round the face for ever considering we were dead and buried. 8 wins out of 14 will be enough.
Reasons why we can do it: our Midfield of Soares, Bailey, Shelvey and Racon. Even after the worst season I can remember, this lot have impressed me greatly, and keeping them fit and using Shelvey wisely could prove the key.
Reasons why we should give up: Our defence lacks confidence big time, and has done all season. Send them paintballing or something, and we'll be laughing our way out of this mess.
Although I think we will win at Barnsley we have left ourselves in a position where all the 'must win' matches really are 'must win' matches, and we havent showed that consistency since the start of last season.
Need to get 7 points from Barnsley/Swansea/Doncaster preferably winning the former and the latter.
We played a terrible side yesterday lets not forget that.
My fear is that we just came up against very poor side yesterday.
parky used 4 centre midfielders yesterday in yet another attempt to try something different, well done it worked and we looked world beaters against a rubbish team.
So will he play the same team in the next match away? i doubt it!! If we lose our next game im sure he will bring in the couple of loan players he has talked about to freshen things up and there we are back to square one.

If we can then there is a glimmer of hope.

We will need to win almost all of our remaining home games AND turn around our appalling away form.
We need to get something next week and maybe then I'll start to believe.
