[cite]Posted By: valleyman[/cite]Ambrose has no excuses, he has always been a 'soft touch'. It would be ok if he had any ability but IMO he does not, no pace, no real skill and not as good as most at corners. He should not have been anywhere near the squad and should not ever again.
As for Sam & Mootoo, I think both are ok and would do a good job in League 1 if we kept them. Sam blows hot and cold and needs to find consistency, whatever he was like when he came on (and the commentator obviously thought he was lazy) was probably down to an off day IMO. Mootoo I would imagine is pretty hacked off, always overlooked, always dropped and the manager has just tried to play a midfielder in his position rather than putting him on.
However when all is said and done, whatever he is feeling he is paid good money to play for us and so should give 100% when he comes on. plus if he was the only one not to applaud the fans that is a disgrace, however pissed off he is at the manager i don't remember any fan really having a go at hom (before tonight) and we pay his wages.
I appreciate I am not close to any of the players or really know what goes on from day to day but from my perspective as an outsider it really looks like we have a MASSIVE attitude problem at this club which if recent rumours (Wright & Randolph) are true seems to even be spreading to the younger players in the squad. I have no idea how it would be turned around though :-(
Agree 100% with this.
[cite]Posted By: HandG[/cite]He's lazy and talented, just like Jensen was. The main difference being that Jensen talent was greater and he showed enough flashes of it for us to forgive his laziness.
Don't agree with this, though. Claus used to annoy me sometimes for not getting stuck in a bit more but I never felt he was lazy or hid in games. He always tracked back and picked a man up and at least had nuisance value - even if players knew he wasn't going to tackle them, he made it harder for them to pick a pass and even Cautious Curbs used to leave him on when protecting a 1 goal lead because a) he helped defend and b) was good at helping us retain possesion.
Ambrose does nothing when we lose it and has even started hiding when we have the ball (endless aimless punts up pitch against Forest as a classic example).
I have to admit, I've not really rated him from day 1 but given our current situation, the fact he has been so disinterested for so long, and that there is no chance he will be here next season I see absolutely no reason for him to be anywhere near the match day squad.
[cite]Posted By: BlackForestReds[/cite]You misunderstand the point I'm making - Ambrose stands out in this Charlton team for his deficiences, at a better club, even the Charlton of two/three seasons ago when he first arrived, he'd look a better player.
You're right about that and it's probably true for players like ZZ, Sam and Moutaouakil.
As for the first post, Parkinson won't give up until it's mathematically impossible to stay up. So I wouldn't be surprised if we see a couple more loans in and out once the loan window opens.
Players like Soares are decent enough players, but it's not enough to keep us up and it's stopping players that will be here next season from playing, as well as costing us at least some of their wages.
Soares is possibly the best loan signing we could have this season - most of our loanees are either kids getting their first taste of sustained first team action, misfits at other clubs or players coming back from injury. Ok Soares fits into the second category but he's the only loanee we've had this year that I'd like to see at the club as a Charlton player.
[cite]Posted By: Ormiston Addick[/cite]Clive Walker, a flasher? Any proof of this?
He got done for it back in the 70s.
Hence the nickname.
Cheers Len, I didn't know that! Still a bloody good player though, he was great for Woking against Millwall in the FAC even though he must have been inhis 40's.
[cite]Posted By: BlackForestReds[/cite]jensen wasn't appreciated by lots of fans
Err, what fans? Jensen had more class in his little toe than the entire current team.
No, BFR is right, there were loads of my mates at the time who thought he was soft, didn't track back, didn't tackle and all the rest of the stuff a "typical" English midfielder would do.
Thing is though that very few "typical" English midfielders could have scored the goal he scored at the Library!
Walker is right the team has been unsettled since Curbs left .Pardew was looking for a quick fix and Parky is picking up the pieces. I'd have thought now stick with a side made up of the young CHARLTON players in prep for next year in Division 1
