[cite]Posted By: golfaddick[/cite]why can't our players be more like Defoe - we boo him and he scores against us (like Lisbie, Jeffers etc)
should this not lift the poor lad?
Apparently it only works the other way round players who played for other clubs sign gentlemans agreements that they are not allowed to score against their old clubs whilst playing for Charlton. I hope that clears it up :-)
i don't think he'll get much stick from us - he's only playing for your lot because he can't get a game at stoke and he's hardly an objectionable sort
hudson's not objectionable either - and whilst he might get a few boos he really deserves a standing ovation for the contribution he's made to your downfall this season
i'm sure it'll all be very civilised on the 27th - or maybe not
Former Eagles midfielder Tom Soares will not celebrate should he score against his ex-employers when he lines up against Palace for Charlton in next week's south London derby.
Soares, who left SE25 for Premier League Stoke in the summer, had been at Palace from the age of eight - but is now facing the prospect of playing against the club where he learned his trade after completing a month-long loan switch to the Valley.
And the former England U21 international, who is cup-tied for Charlton's FA Cup clash against Sheffield United on Saturday, admits playing against Palace at the Valley will be a "weird" experience - and insists should he, by a strange twist of fate, get on the scoresheet that he will not celebrate.
He told the Advertiser: "Of course, I will not celebrate should I score against Palace next week. I respect the club and the fans too much - I will just keep my head down.
"I will definitely be a bit weird playing against Palace - but I have to be professional and go out there and do my best for the team."
For Soares' thoughts on Ben Watson's future and his hopes for a positive reception from the Eagles faithful next week, see Friday's Advertiser.
Well of course he's got a greater commitment to Palace than us. He started his career there and played more than 150 games for them. What does he care about us when he's only going to be here for another three weeks?
His commitment goes:
1. Stoke
2. Palace
3. Charlton - and third a very long way behind one and two.
Really don't want him in the side v Palace under those circs.
Its all a bit harsh it seems he was asked a question and answered it. I don't believe for one second it will put him of look at our lot when they was booed they still got on with the job in hand ;-)
nothing wrong with pro footballers showing a bit of respect to his old team even if it is Palace.
And if he scores its with our SHIRT on and agaisnt them - we'll do the celebrating for him....
Players damned if they do somethimes and damned if they don't - let's put things into a bit of perspective here considering the trouble between the fans previously - doesn't need any more hype than usual
Like Nigel said, i don't particularly care about any of the things he has said, players are players not fans, but we are hurtling down sh1t street like a juggernaught, and if that can be stopped with a late winner against Palace, i would want the player to be so happy he pulled off the celebration of all celebrations, not worrying about offending the opposition.
Straight away you have a player going into a game with a slight doubt in his mentality of the outcome.

Spot on. The rest of the answers about how much he likes it at Charlton, etc, etc will have been ignored by the CROYDON ADVERTISER as it is PALACE paper so will write the story from a PALACE angle.
[cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]Again, if we were doing ok in the league we wouldnt bat an eylid at this.
But because we are so poor at the moment everything riles us.
If indeed he does score the winner against them and doesnt celebrate will we really care?
Not one little bit. Didn't players in the "good" old days just shake hands and wander back for the re-start. Did that mean they didn't care?
Rather him not celebrate than players spending hours planning celebration routines, silly dances, handcuffs, letter As, swinging babies and other bollox
Rather misses the point. I think the concern raised by AFKA and others relates more generally to the commitment of here-today-gone-tomorrow loanees.
Saores with his ill-judged comments has merely brought into stark focus something that has been an issue ever since Pardew first launched us on this crazy merry-go-round of multiple loans.
As a Charlton fan I thought JFH was a disgrace when after he scored for us at Stamford Bridge he shooed all the rest of the team away when they went to congratulate him and instead went and effectively apologised to the Chelsea fans.
All very well respecting an old team. What he did was disrespectful to his new team mates and the Charlton fans.
I suppose this just one of those things where the is no right or wrong, and people see differently.
Personally, i just think given what we are going through, the chairmen, manager and players should be doing everything possible to try and keep us, the fans, as 'onside' as much as they possibly can. And a player saying before one of our biggest games of the season against the side we dislike in this league the most that he won't celebrate, probably isn't the right thing to say at this moment in time.
Comments
Worry about who is paying your wage now
Knowing us we might write a new clause into his loan deal not to play against ex teams in case he crys's
ha ha thats true with Palace booing him now as well that would be funny
that was the point I was attempting to make !
should this not lift the poor lad?

I remember when JFH scored for us against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and he was practically apologising to the Chelsea fans.

More concerned by the fact he will probably turn out to be nothing than a waste wages and resources while he is here for a month.

But its no massive issue.
