[cite]Posted By: BigRedEvil[/cite]Thought it was common knowledge that you have to loan these players out before they can get a work permit. Man Utd did it with their CHinese bloke Dong I think.
If he does turn out to be any good then I highly doubt we will ever see him in a Charlton shirt
Yeah I remember that, they did. They also had that Angolan striker Manucho, last season they loaned him out, this season he got a work permit and now he's joined Hull on loan the other day.
Surely if any of them are good enough, they'll come here, play here for maybe a season before being sold? If they're sold straight away because they're good players, it'll be for decent money.
[cite]Posted By: stilladdicted[/cite]Curious indeed. On the OS, the dreaded word administration has appeared on the fans forum. A normally reputable fan has had it 'mentioned' to him that admin is to be discussed in Feb. Realistic rumours or scaremongering?
Normally reputable fan and the Your views section of the OS = Contradiction in terms.
SSN runs a story = The club can't get anything right : - (
This was raised by a known scaremonger on the pink oboe list yesterday. I doubt there is any substance to it.
[cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]Think he means David Regis, he's 'Head of Education' on the OS.
Didn't know that.
John Regis did have a trial with CAFC in the 80s I think but got turned down. Too slow most likely ; - 0
I think he was offered schoolboy terms or similar and instead chose an athletic career. I have a feeling that Arsenal might also have offered him a contract. Bear in mind in those days we wouldn't have paid much and alternative careers were more lucrative than now. I had a friend at Uni who was briefly on our books and played with Paul walsh etc, he preferred a law degree and a career in law to playing for an itinerant football club.
Looks like it was true that there was an offer for Gohi. I was having a look at what some of the blogs said about the AGM. Shame but if we get decent money for him it's not a bad thing, we wouldn't have seen him in the first team for at least a year or two until he can get a work permit.
Q: What is the cost of the links with overseas clubs? Two of the links cost money - Herfolge Boldklub in Denmark (I think, or it may have been Germinal Beerschot in Belgium?) have been told that they will need to renegotiate any finance, and ASEC Mimosa of Ivory Coast are also financed. Ivorian Bi Cyriac Gohi was mentioned by name as being a very good prospect, and a bid has been made for him so he may be sold, as work permit issues abound.
Also pointed out any 'over the top' bids for players will be accepted. We'll get rid of Gray if we can get a striker in, and we'll be letting Weaver go if an offer comes in, if not he'll go on a free in the summer as his contract is up.
Standard Liege are saying they've signed Bi on a 5 year deal from Asec and make no real mention of us getting anything out of the deal. Will be interesting to see what the club say.
I've just seen that as well. It's also on ASECs site. Shame and a bit annoying considering he has the Charlton badge on his official website, and it says he'll sign for Charlton.
I wonder if we'll still get the others? There was talk about N'Gossan going to Saint Etienne, wasn't clear if that was on loan from us or not though.
[cite]Posted By: mart77[/cite]Will be interesting to see what the club say.
Don't worry Mart we will probably be told that we've done really well out of it, so that's the main thing. Would be a refreshing change if we are told what our fee is. I am presuming we have a sell-on clause. Surely.
Good luck to him and Liege, they may have a new star on their hands. Football careers are short and, to be fair, coming over to Europe from the Ivory Coast to earn a work permit to play in England's third division is hardly going to get the boy's pulse racing.
Two years ago, he'd have thought he'd be able to use us as a springboard to the likes of Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool - not Wolves and Reading.
I wonder if we'll 'sell' more of our African youngsters - there is surely a debate that the 'feeder' clubs they are going to are just as good and as successful as the parent club. Perhaps more so.
Our first signing, Bakary Soro (if we still own his registration) now plays for Lorient in the French top flight. Or did until he was crocked. Would any player give up playing at that level for a (quite possibly) soon-to-be League One club surviving on a League One budget?
It is a shame so many things are not working out for Charlton right now with its overseas tie-ups. The Christensen debacle and the Board's desperation not to pay his former club any more money, as we are paying him 5K a week already, now Mikkel Jensen has been released too...
It seems that we can't sadly afford to continue laying down the roots first established in the good times. At least that's what the decision to let Gohi Bi go now says to me.

Anyone know if we got anything for him, or he was never officially our player? Did we sign him and loan him back to ASEC, or did we sign him in January and sell him like Sky Sports said?

I presume Angry Arry, its because you are looking in the wrong thread.
Try the Simeon Jackson one :-)
LOL, made the same mistake myself but I'm blaming NSS for confusing me. : - 0

I'm thinking maybe it wasn't our decision, did he end up not signing a contract with us? He was probably going to sign it this month.
Soro will be interesting, since he's been out on loan for two years, surely not far off being able to get a work permit.
Club probably won't say anything, they've kept most of this ASEC stuff quiet, apart from the odd bit of info about it.
I've bumped this as have just read the blog from the AGM which was very informative.
I RECKON ADMIN SHOULD MAKE THE BLOG A STICKY !
5 year contract
Not played for them yet
