FAO Jonjo - please do as Kaka says (not as he does...!)

Kaka has been quoted as saying he wants to grow old at Milan.

Now, Jonjo, a little word of advice - growing a bit older at Charlton would be an excellent idea. You know it makes sense.

  • And if you can't get in touch with Kaka, then listen to AFKA instead !
  • Jonjo is an intelligent and astute young guy and I think his family have been giving him wise advice for years. Don't forget that he was being talked about by scouts from all over the country when he was as young as 12. He has stayed at Charlton because he likes the club and he and his parents have liked the way his development has been handled. He is a huge talent and, for the moment, I think he knows that his growth as a player would be best served by staying here and getting first team experience rather than sitting on the stiff's bench at some big club. He'll go, one day - unfortunately for us - because he's good enough for big things, but in the meantime I suspect he'll stay with us. I certainly hope so - not since the best days of Scott Parker have I had so much pleasure watching a player in a Charlton shirt. Back when Scottie was great for us I used to wake up on a Saturday with a thrill of anticipation about seeing him play. I now feel that way when I know Jonjo is going to play.
  • Think about it Jonjo...

Stay a while longer at Charlton and even now you can play alongside 'Cack'...

    ...if not yet Kaka....

Anyway, you'll not be reading this as it is past your bed-time!!! Lights off young man....game on Saturday....

That sounds right to me. I watched him again last night. Sure he didn't have a chance to make a big impact but everything he did was with great intelligence for such a young lad. I said on an earler thread that whatever happens, it's the system which in the end will take him away. I hope he stays for a while because he will gain hugely from the first team experience of playing for us.
  • Although I agree with this, he was one of the reasons I didnt think twice about renewing my ST this season (although not seen him as much as I would have liked), on a non selfish note though I think he is a level above what we have around him at the moment and could improve a hell of a lot more with better players around him, this i think will be the deciding factor.

Imagine him playing in the same team as Jensen, Di Canio, Parker?

I've noticed that in little things he does at times.

Really enjoy watching him, would love us to get back in the Prem in a few years with him still here and a better team around him, and some of the other young players in there.
  • its pretty clear the club are trying to raise interest in Shelvey with a view to getting a decent whack for him, he is mentioned so often in the media by Parkinson that can be the only explanation if you ask me
  • If you do move Shelvey, don't get ahead of yourself and join a club that won't play you.

Complete and utter bollocks. It was only up to two weeks ago the club were accused of trying to hide Shelvey.

What is Parkinson supposed to do in a press conference when talking about how good Shelvey looks is the main thing journalists want to ask ?
  • Stay around Jonjo, fans love you, and you have another 20 years to play footie, take it nice and slowly pal.

  • just my opinion, I guess we'lls see what happens.
  • if you read this Jonjo, You're already giving a lot of pleasure to everyone at the valley, Theres nothing like seeing one of your youth players come through, I have come home 2 weeks in a row raving to my wife and all my mates about your poise, passing and class, not to mention the goal against norwich! Please stay a while longer, help keep us up, win the cup ;-) and then when you do move on to a top club as you undoubtedly will, I look forward to the day you pull on the three lions!
  • [cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]just my opinion, I guess we'lls see what happens.

You cant say something is 'pretty clear' and then hide behind it being your opinion.
  • Don't forget, in a press conference, Parky responds to questions.
So virtually everything he says has to be seen in the context of answering somebody elses question.

That might not be apparent when you read an article on the OS or a quote in a newspaper.
  • Journos get as exited as we do about a new young talent on the block and its natural that they will want to talk about him and not much else and to be fair parky will be happier talking about JJ than another depressing defeat, although they are now a thing of the past.
  • I prefer Matt Spring myself ;-)

Shelvey reminds me of a Claus Jensen that can run.

If a sizeable offer comes him cafc will ship him out 'the boy wanted to go, what would happen if he got a serious injury he would miss out on a big salary elsewehere and we would miss out on a big fee'.
  • .......And when you eventually depart Charlton don't forget to return once you have collected a booty of winners medals and made an absolute fortune, please come back to finish your career at the Valley.
  • This thread is panic-mongering!!!
  • Its the inevitable!
  • I can't work out why people are seizing on the worst case scenario - and blowing it up out of all proportion?

  • Come on Oggy you must know CAFC by now ;-)
  • So many people on this list are SO negative. Don't you know the principle of like attracting like? Think negative and negativity will happen. Be positive - Jonjo Shelvey is partly the wonderful prospect that he is because he plays without negativity and fear. Think positively about him and his time here and maybe he'll stay longer than you think.
  • Lovely young lad. Im sure this was the best moment of his career so far.. winning man of the match and hvaing to sing happy birthday to some old bird.
  • Look at Bob Bolder on the right as well, looks good for his age.
  • I loved reaing these comments Nadou you have it right
  • edited January 2009
At his age the most important thing is first team football, highs and lows, is he gonna get first team football with anyone in prem? infact in most top half championship teams?? No, sense prevails he must stay with us to really further his career and get games under his belt.

plus even our pennyless pot will still pay him well
  • ''even our pennyless pot will still pay him well''

You mean we've still got a pot? Things aren't quite as bad as I feared...

We sold the pot after the strategic review.

I hope he stays and I'm a tad encouraged that there doesn't appear to have been any news items or attempts to tap him up via a friendly journalist.
  • journos dont need to, every scout in the country has known about him for, well, scouts I know have talked about him for two years, but obviously some have known a lot longer than that.
  • He's a sensible boy that gets very good advice especially from his parents. He wont do anything stupid. he knows he has years ahead of him
