Just back!!

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
Our team played for 90 mins

The youth were great though jonjo looked lost out wide when he came on

Mootoo and bailey were tackling like mad men

Fortune composed at the back along with hudson who i thought didn't put a foot wrong all night

Randolph made a match winning save in the second half and his kicking and throwing was spot on

Burton ran his socks off but to no effect

Kinsella, fortune and mootoo were going mad at the final whistle in with the crowd tops off and all that

The goal was well worked and well done dazza for putting it away so well (thank god it wasn't burton put through)

Fans well i think there was about 300-400 and surprised how vocal we were but not at the end when a hearty V F R was sung and my voice finally gave out

Stewards were an absolute joke 'again' they were trying to tell people to stop pointing WTF my flag went from being a fire hazard to a trip hazard

Still buzzing though and well worth the trip sorry it cant be more detailed it wasn't a classic but a good honest display and a battling performance that we were in control of for once right till the end.

  • I got back about 30 mins ago. Echo most of your post , although I think there were 2 really poor teams out there tonight and if we play like that on Saturday I'd expect to get beat.

Don't get me wrong, the team played well as a unit and as mentioned both the midfield and the defence worked their socks off - Hudon was emense and towards the end Bailey put in 2 or 3 crucial tackles, but my major cocern is still up front.

Burton hardly touched the ball and in 90 mins never looked like scoring. Parky's only tactic was to defend a 1-0 lead and he had no thought of trying to get a 2nd goal. In most other games we would have lost (as usual this season) by 2 or 3 and only won because Norwich were worse than us. Expect to see Roedor gone by the end of the month and they are only above us because of Lita and now he has gone expect to see them slide down the table.
  • i'm still blinkered by the absolute euphoria of finally winning! Thanks for your reports guys. wish i'd been there! I don't know about others, but i for one am happy for the players and the management team that we've finally won! Lets face it, we do deserve a break after all. Though, we still need a decent striker to put away the chances that we have been creating. I for one don't know if we have enough to stay up, but I do believe that under PP things are going to improve. I don't care if Norwich were worse than us to be honest. I've seen plenty of teams worse than us this season who have walked away with three points. About time something changed. The hope is still there.

jeeesus christ golfie you could find the negatives in us winning the champs league

"if we play like that on Saturday I'd expect to get beat". Golfie we have played better in loads of games and got beat

"In most other games we would have lost (as usual this season) by 2 or 3 and only won because Norwich were worse than us" how many games have we lost where we were not the worst team they were, how many times has poor finishing and 1 error at the back cost us.

Now hats off to you mate for going i think you deserve a medal a really do, You deserve the win more than most for your continual support.

But the players were bound to be nervy the commentry remarked on the excellent closing down from midfield and the resiliance of the back 4 and how well they played as a unit

cheer up mate you have seen the result that may just change our season we go to Sheff Wed with hope and it is not the worst place to go to try to continue the result and get out of shit

enjoy it forget about the negatives it has been a long time coming

  • Yay we won with all our OWN players. Take out Josh Wright for Spring. Find another permanent winger. We might get out of it but have a side fit for promotion next season.

FOR F**** SAKE GOLFIE TALK ABOUT RAIN ON A PARADE

We needed a win and got it and who gives a flying toss if we got it playing negatively.
  • Golfie, I really cant see what negatives you can take from last night performances. OK we wernt great, but now the team know they are capable of winning games if the put 100% for 90+ mins. I thought Husdon was MOTM, he made countless amounts of great interceptions, hard (but fair) tackles, superb hearders, and apart from a great save, he was denied a goal. Im not taking any negatives, I sick of them. I was pleased with the youngsters especially Wright. Thought he made few little errors but he didnt let those affect his game and he should be at least on the bench at Sheff W. Also impressed with Randolph. I didnt really know what to expect, but overall i was totally impressed. His kicking and throwing as said by bloodnut was spot on and the save near the end was excellent. Parki will have to have a good think out who will play in goal on saturday as Darren has made it very hard for Parki to drop him. Last but defo not least. The support was superb. I think everyone up there deserved the 3 points. Sang for 90 mins and the celebrations with the players at the end was out of this world. I was proud to be there and witness our first win since October 4th, and long may this feeling continue.

    C'MON YOU REDS
  • For those that were there last night what were the impressions of Wagstaff. Still too raw or has he got what it takes?

Also for those of you knocking Golfie, be fair to him at least he went and he's only being honest. He did say he echoed most of the first post which was a positive post. I guess the point he's trying to make is although we're all happy at the win, try not to get too carried away as Norwich are a pretty awful side.

  • Moo2's normally goes a bit mad when we win. I think he jumped in the crowd vs Southampton last year.

    Yassin B-)

Shame he will be dropped for Murty who will only play another 5 games for us

Which is a very fair point to make.
I view Norwich as currently how we were around the Barnsley game. Lets hope they follow it up with a two month run like we did !

Wagstaff looked a bit raw still but that is another game under his belt. He linked up quite well with Moots. Like all of the yougsters Waggy also appeared to run out of steam around the 60 minute mark which is why he got taken off I suspect.
  • Golfie I got pelters for saying the same thing after Doncaster, just tell it as you saw it,the most pleasing thing for me is the age of the squad.Let's give the kids a go we have absolutely nothing to lose let them play with freedom and see where it takes us.

Fair points, but remember, even a 1000 mile journey starts with only 1 step
  • Lets not get carried away, but after the last few months we had we deserve to be upbeat for a change.
  • no one is knocking him other than to say we have played better and lost and for gods sake enjoy the feeling of a win...

if you can not find positives in the fact that we won,

i would take playing shit and winning the next half a dozen games it is not always about the level of performance
  • Im not one to get involved in picking apart other peoples posts, all i wanted to do was give people a quick snap shot as it were of wot i thought of the game, the fans and the night over all.
To be honest its not the best written post ive done, or the most comprehensive, but it was late, i was a little drunk and its always nice to read a fans point of view who were at the game i feel, weather u agree with wot they write or not.
The most important thing for me was that we kept it together for 90+ mins, and i said to my mate that normally at the end i've just been praying that we hold on, but last night i was actually quite confidant we would see it through which says a lot i think.......

On a lighter note my throat is killing me, i sound like barry white!!

    Onwards and Upwards ;-)

Yeah, that was a weird feeling for me. With 5 minutes to go, I thought that I couldn't see us losing this, then I remembered we hadn't won since the war.

Was a very weird feeling indeed!?
  • I think the run we have been on has been so damaging to us the only way we were ever gonna eventually win was ugly & we are gonna have to get used to it, cos free flowing football is never gonna get us out of the predicament we find ourselves in. As for the people having a pop at Golfie, yes he is negative but he did go which a few on here having a go didn't, he's just making some fair observations. As Steve said after the Donny game we told everyone we were shite everyone who didn't go just accused us of being negative. Say what you see...!
  • It was pretty similar to the Donny game. An early goal, then a good rearguard performance. Personally, I don't think there are any negatives to take out of last night.
  • We all love to see a rip-roaring attacking performance where we completely dominate.

But it's just as much part of the game to defend well.

    Ask any manager.
  • Kinsella, fortune and mootoo were going mad at the final whistle in with the crowd tops off and all that

    that's nice to hear

    i'm still smiling

    C'MON YOU REDSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

Its all about grinding out results now and having that bit of luck aswell ofcoarse, free flowing football can wait till next year....
  • yeah the free flowing football that we thought we'd get when curbs left can wait till erm errr never ffs we're charlton
let's hope this win leads on to better things but i wouldn't bet on it
