Am I the only one who refuses to accept we're going down

Honestly Im not really looking at the table. Yes I've seen how badly we've been playing. But I absolutely refuse to accept that we're going down. Right up until the point that mathmatically I'm told different I cant accept that we're not going to put a run together. I dont think there's a single team that cant be beaten in this league either. Am I the only one who still think's we'll stay up?

  • I wouldn't go so far as to say I think we will stay up, however I have not yet accepted relegation. It is pretty tough but there is still a chance.
  • Not saying it won't happen but I've not accepted that it definitely will and I won't until I can't make the maths work any more.
  • I am still convinced we can get out of this - maybe I am foolhardy or maybe I know something you guys don't

Who knows - I am just convinced we will get out of this mess.

We ARE playing well and we just need a spot of luck and a ricochet to go our way and we'll be motoring again

Having said that IF we do go down I will not be slitting my wrists as I am positive we will come back
  • It is a big IF

IF we sign a decent striker

If we sign a decent Centre Half

then it is a huge ask but possible

If we dont amend those 2 positions then NO we can not stay up

Totally agree however how are we going to attract anyone even half decent in our current position?

I won't give up until we are mathmaticly down and I want to believe that we will get out of this mess but I just can't see it.
  • I believe brother, count me in
  • Not until the fat lady is singing....

Stranger things have happened - especially at this club!

That's why I don't like to blame Parkinson for the players he's bringing in, he's going for the best that is available to us.
  • The view from my titanium reinforced rose tinted glasses;
the teams too good to get religated.
Lets face it, the two goals conceeded on Saturday were the only two chances Forrest really had. Both caused by errors that occur to other teams, we're just unlucky that they put them away.
We play good football and dominated large periods of recent games, someone needs to step up and take the chances that are created, like Bailey did against QPR

  • Good place to have a relegation party, Pride Park, should get a decent allocation there, as well as not to far in terms of journey time, we go down, big deal, part and parcel of life being a Charlton fan, we have been there before we are set to go back there, but think of the new grounds we can go to, the only downside from my point of view is how sparce the stadium will look.

Look at the Forest game, oodles of chances-none taken. Forest have 2 attacks at the end of the half and score 2 goals, job done. For all the various comments on the web about Tyson not being that good I have to disagree, he was good at Wycombe and will find his feet at Forest. Robert Earnshaw is a quality striker who is more than capable of goals at this level and possibly above. He has been available several times and we have been rumoured to be in for him and he has gone elsewhere, he has been available when we have had cash but we've signed the likes of Varney and Gray. Deon Burton got similar sniffs of goal to Earnshaw but didn't have anywhere near the quality to score. Much is said about not taking your chances at Premiership level but the same applies in the Championship. Forest have the fire power to survive, and we don't, until one of our strikers score or we sign someone (who though?) we will unfortunately not survive.
Defensively we are a mess,if we can't score we at least need to keep them out and we can't even do that. A real leader of men is required and Mark Hudson has singularly failed in that regard and is no captain in my eyes. We need as North London Addick rightly suggests to find a quality centre half and a quality striker, time is not in plentiful supply nor is money so it is difficult to see where survival is coming from and that is galling to say.
  • If we think for one second this team is too good to be relegated we are down. I do hope we can avoid the drop but its going to be through sheer commitment and hard work if we somehow scrape it.
  • Dilusional

we may not be down yet but it will be nothing short of a miracle, and 3 other teams having a worse run than us - not likely on either front
  • No Blackheath, i'm still somewhere in the back of my mind picturing an amazing and improbable turnaround. But its getting more and more difficult to justify week by week.

Over the season, we are conceding on average over two goals a game at HOME. We have consistently been shipping in goals, and i can't see that changing overnight.

Similarly there is not a single player in the squad who if they scored on Saturday, i would have decent faith in them following it up with a goal the following week.

To have any chance of staying up, we will need to put together a run worthy of play-off form over the season. Due to those two points above, i can't honestly see us maintaining that form consistently. We all still seem none the wiser on what i best team is, as shown by the bizarre treatment of Shelvey this season.

So i still hope, but logic is making it difficult. The bookies have us 10/1 ON to go down, and they are rarely wrong.

as long as that, best get down bookies!!!!!!!!!
  • we 're down cos we haven't performed to the best of our availabilities
but we can live in hope
i'm slowly getting mentally prepared for relegation early so that the intial feeling when it happens doesn't hurt so much(but i'm sure it will) then i'm getting prepared for the bullshit of it'll be better in this league blah blah blah we'll win more games new ground chuff that will appear
  • we aint down yet lets get a decent forward in who can get us the goals to keep us up .

i'm with you Black Heath Addick
  • Can't see if myself - after results like saturday's, its not so much that we can't string a few wins together (eventually, please God), its just that there has to be not one, but 3, yes 3, teams shitter than us.

    Not very likely is it?

  • Till the mathamatics say so I'm in the "we are staying up say we are staying up" brigade. Mind you, mathamaticly we can still finish top!

If I don't look at the table I also think we're not going down. It's when I look at the table that I think we are :-)
  • Our best chance of staying up might be that some of the struggling teams go into Administration. Southampton and Watford are looking particularly dodgy and Norwich arn't looking too clever (Delia is still behind the club but other directors have resigned after financial problems of their own).

Fifteen points of each of those and we are back in it (or am I just clutching at straws)?

it's true. If you get out your logarithm tables, you will note:

    When z is a complex number, say z = x + i y, the logarithm of z is found by putting z in polar form that is, z = reiθ = r cos(θ) + i r sin(θ), where r = |z| = sqrt(x2 + y2) and θ = arg(z) is any angle such that x = r cos θ and y = r sin θ. Arg is a multi-valued function.

Easy, eh? Wolves relegated and Charlton up!
  • Can we still make the play offs, cause until we can't make it I won't believe we won'[t

I'll get pelters for saying it but having a forward who can harrass defenders into mistakes would have been a help Saturday someone like errr Luke Varney.

Burton is not the same class, and certainly not on his own. The amount of balls Shelvey gave him in the first half he didn't seem to know what to do with that Varney would have been on in a shot and would have buried one of them. Pace scares defenders shitless whatever level you play at and also allows you to get away with mistakes. Just not from our fans it seems
  • agree with carter
  • Every matchday at 3pm I am a believer. By about 4.30 whether by shit performances, bad luck or shooting ourselves in the foot I've usually been drained of belief.
  • Varney is capable of 10 or so goals a season at this level, Pardew just tried to build him up and turn him into a 20+ goal a season striker, which he isn't. He might have scored one of those, even if it was just through his pace, compared to Burton being that bit quicker might have given him more time or a better angle.
  • Stranger things have happend and we do appear to be neck deep in the shite however we have been due a lucky win since Bouazza shanked a cross off Volz's arse in October and the amount of sudden belief that could bring would be immeasurable.

As our learned brummie pal Adrian Chiles says 'it's the hope that kills ya' or something like that.
