Conceding Defeat

edited January 2009 in General Charlton
That's it let's all concede defeat by the sounds of it all your season tickets are wasted because you all know we are going to continue losing YAWN...

WELL NOT ME GOOD SIRS AND I KNOW THERE ARE SOME WHO WILL STAND BESIDE ME NOW AS I SAY THIS.

Get behind the side and quit moaning all the time. We are charlton we have been "crap" most of the 104 years this club has been going. Being "crap" is what we are all about there has only really been 20-25 REALLY good years and 7 of them we were (mostly) all lucky enough to see in the top flight. And some of you older boys got to see the FA Cup being won.

So forget the Premiership and the FA Cup that IS the past this now is the present and we can do our best to try to help reach those kind of heights in the future by getting behind our side.

I thank you and goodnight. (or good morning)

  • looking forward to watching the lads thrash wednesday on saturday. that would make my season whatever else happens now. COME ON YOU REDS!!!
  • Dazzler - DID YOU GO TO THE GAME?!

With three minutes gone in injury time and us losing 2-0 ,and certainly, or almost certainly cut adrift too far to stay up, the crowd were there singing Valley Floyd Road ... I was one of them

That does not prevent me from moaning about the ineptitude I see in front of my own very eyes. I've paid my dues and when 15,000 or so thousand all think in the same voice - perhaps WE are right and the management are wrong?....

Just because Parky's in the job, does not mean he knows what he's doing more than 15,000 fans as a collective do...
  • No- I didn't my comment is about our history not just one game.

p.s just heard Parky say on OS "there are no better players in this league than Jonjo Shelvey"

    I'd have to agree!
  • Regrettably, one way or another, he ain't likely to remain in this league for long.

If that is the case - how comes he's only started playing now then ffs?! As Assistant Manager I'd have been banging on to Pardew about giving the kid a run out .... and why's it taken him 8 games of not winning to work out what some of us have known for a while - if you're good enough, you're old enough. Even if it as coming on sub when we've been losing - which has been quite a lot over the last year!
  • yeh

i'll be honest here i am 100% behind the side, but cant really accept parky is the man for the job even saying this i will always support the manager as they are trying their best.
  • Agree with supaclive about Shelvey. Why ,when were as poor as we are, has it taken so long to give him a chance. Both Pardew and Parky have stifled his development. Perhaps we will see a few others given a chance now, because they couldn't do any worse. Somehow i doubt it though.
  • They haven't stifled his development, the opposite is true. His age makes him very vulnerable to over-use injuries. Joints, ligaments, bones and muscle are all growing. They've ensured that he isn't physically and permanently wrecked which deserves a bit of credit.
  • well surely allowing him only a couple of games is not enough at this stage of the season..he sixteen not six.
  • As i've said many times before, I wouldnt expect him to play every game. However, he could certainly been given a chance in a cup game and come off the bench for 20-30 minutes now and then. .. Don't twist my words please.

  • i wonder if wayne rooney is physically and permanently wrecked?? after all he was only sixteen?
  • Remember when Parker first appeared in the first team? Curbs regularly subbed him in the second half as he lacked the stamina for 90 minutes back then.
  • Well all I will say is it looks bleak but it still is NOT over yet.
And what Weegie says in another thread is true we did not look terrible for most of that game we looked an ok ish championship side.
We just need to put in the chances we are creating. Two bad moments in defence otherwise it was reasonable there.
I still believe a win will change our mindset but it has to come soon.
I haven't given up yet even if I felt like shite yesterday.
  • yeah of course he cant play every min of every week, but he should of been used more. matt holland who i rate highly, played alot of football last season, and i dont think he should of played as much,as his age and fitness are against him...?
  • im with u 3blokes,we aint that far behind are we.?
  • Of course its over ! We have not won a match for 18 games. We have a changing side. We can`t score and can`t defend. At least we now look as though we are trying but come on be realistic.
  • well if we were 12 or 15 points behind i would agree, but we are not..if u think its over i take it u wont be going again this season???
  • Poor ole Matty Holland has given his all over the years and looks dead on his feet, pity a few more don't take a leaf out his book
  • Oh I`ll be going. I have been going since 1961 and have seen at least as shite as we are now. That doesn`t stop me being realistic though.
  • i agree....they could learn a lot from him...

  • Matty knew that his poor header probably cost us the game and you could see at the end he was genuinely gutted. Fair play to him imho he is a great professional. If we had 11 like him we wouldn`t be in this mess.
  • im being realistic, but surely the best thing to be is optimistic.. we are not down yet,not by a long way,i admit it doesnt look good, but the season isnt over...
  • When it is impossible mathematically then it is over. When we play terrible create no chances and we show absolutely no commitment then yes it is over. And I know how you feel shooters but let's save the bullet for a few more weeks eh I'd like to see Spring ;-)
  • I really do admire your optomism Tadpole but check out the fixture list and do the math as they say. The bookies give us no chance and you never see a poor bookmaker. Thats realism.
  • [cite]Posted By: The Red Tadpole[/cite]i wonder if wayne rooney is physically and permanently wrecked?? after all he was only sixteen?

Think of Mike Owen and Steve Gerrard, Norman Whiteside etc, most players who play too much senior football when they are too young tend to have serious injury problems. Rooney may just be the exception and it isn't worth risking trying to emulate it.

Matty Holland a real professional and someone who is bothered and a decent bloke. Met him once he was great to my son he didn't have to be so felt that said a bit about him.
Yes he looked gutted but he has always worn the shirt for us always applauds the fans at the end and even tries the powelly jump :-)
Not that he has had much practice at it lately ....:-(
  • stranger things have happend tho shoots,i know its gona be hard of course.. i agree what u said about having eleven matt hollands,we deff wouldnt be in this mess...
  • Really do hope you are right Tadpole and I am just a miserable defeatist old git.
  • haha. i didnt like to say.................
  • I take your point BFR, but i dont think that is whats being said mate. We're just suggesting that a few more appearances from the subs bench ,and a few matches would help him develope without putting him at undue risk. After all, if he's not playing for the first team he'll be playing for the under 18s or reserves.
