Stranger things have happened. I think we will do it (although I may have a distorted sense of optimism as i still thought we would avoid relegation from the prem at half time at the spurs game.)

Theres bound to be a few teams that do a charlton and flounder after christmas. If we achieve that holy grail and secure a win it may kick start a resurgence and we might close the gap. The fact that a lot of people possibly including the maanagement and players seem resigned to relegtion may mean the pressure isnt as great as it is for the other teams hovering above the drop zone.
We are now for the first time in years going into games as underdogs so in some weird way may be to our advantage...or perhaps i am just thinking with my heart and hoping and in fact just talking utter bollox.
How many wins do we need to get to stay up? Looking at the games left we have a mountin to climb, Lets hope they prove what most of us are thinking wrong!
[cite]Posted By: JT-CAFC[/cite]If we stay up i will be willing to run along Greenwich road stark bollock with a Palace scarf tied around my head. And yes, quote me.
Id be prepared to run down croydon high street with a charlton scarf round my head if we beat the drop. (Dont quote me)

There was a kid sitting near me today, who was chanting "3-2, we're gonna win 3-2" even after the 5 minutes of added time announcement was made. OK, so that takes rose-tinted to extremes that even I wouldn't go to, but he was having way more fun than most of the people sitting near me. Believing in improbable success is far more fun than being convinced of being doomed to failure.
Whod have thought we would have come back in the play off final in the last gasps of the game. Not over in my mind til i see Jo Brand belting out nessun dorma on the pitch at half time.
Exactly. 90 mins is a very long time. Week after week, we have good spells but that darned 90 mins always proves way too much for us. That's the bloody problem...
Off to bed but don't suppose I'll sleep, even after shipping a bottle of Chateauneuf over dinner followed by half a dozen large post-prandial whiskies.
If alternate reality exists, then somewhere Charlton Athletic are currently European champions. I know this is a totally random (and mad) posting, but that thought is comforting to me. I haven't had my meds this morning, sorry.
Maybe we need to take step back before going forward. Man City 10 years ago were in the third tier and look at them now. When the end of the season comes draw a line under it and make a fresh start in a new division and for the first time in 10 years mount a proper promotion challenge.

Man city used to sell out their away allocation all the time when they were in the third division.Home crowds were pretty large too. They looked like a large club punching well below their weight.
Would we?

Other clubs haven't been so lucky, and haven't been able to return.
I'm also getting a sense of Deja Vu, weren't people saying the same the last time we got relegated?
Sorry, just cannot see it. Barnsley are 7 points clear and two games in hand, and goal difference Norwich seem the best bet, same games played but 9 points in the bag and about a dozen goals in the bag. Forest look to strong then there is Plymouth, 10 points clear plus again goals. But miracles happen, just not seen one in SE London yet!

We win on Saturday, then reduces the gap to 4 points with 18 games to go, in of 75% of those are winnable
We've only got 14 games left.
We simply have to win on saturday. I think we can pick up a few points in the remaining home games but it's our away form, 1 win all season that is letting us down
No point torturing yourselves with wondering what games are winnable.
They are all winnable.
That's not the same as saying we'll win every game. We won't.
But if we can play with the belief that was coming back in the 2nd half against Plymouth, then we will pick up points and create that vital momentum. It's that momentum and confidence returning, that means the team can believe they're a capable of going out on the park and winning a match.
Especially the 6-pointers against other lower table teams.
Let's start with Saturday. For now, it's the only match that matters.
Right .... ?
Safety isn't getting any nearer... tonights results were dire, apart from palace's effort.... we're 8 points from safety now and with an inferior goal difference affectively 9 points and watford have a game in hand.....
the only thing getting nearer is the end of the season and not safety;-(
That said we must endeavour to play to our full potential in the 14 remaining games. IF (big if) we can pick up 25-30 points it is just possible that 3 of the 6 or 7 teams within 10 points of us will implode. We can help ourselves by winning when we play those teams. Remember the Curbs mini league theory in the Prem.
Frankly I just want 14 committed fighting performances now and see where it takes us. No expectations.
It can happen but the odds are stacked against us. It needs Championship winning form to do it and then there's no guarantee.
The most important thing for me is that we start winning games back to back and looking like a team. That gives us the best chance of staying up and if not, of coming back up.

Exactly.....relegation it is then

Probably the latter.
Cos we are no good!!!!
Good night folks
Forever Charlton!!!
19 games is even longer.
Not impossible, but highly improbable. But while it's still possibly we will all still dream of us surviving.
Absolutely .......

Starkers or fully clothed?

Hope we do though, and think we will,( On Sat) just saying it is a big ask
Aren't they on the same points as barnsley?

AAAARGGHHHHH - I'm getting sucked in again!
