I am getting sick of people like you VFR dissing people when you have only seen them play ten minutes here and there. At the Norwich Cup Game he created two or three chances in the fifteen minutes he was on the field - the reason is that he is a selfish individual who wants to get the ball into the back of the onion bag and not a team player - Killer Hales was another in this mould and so was Mendonca arguably...
This is backed by statistics for this season which clearly prove that the opinion as expressed by VFR is absolutely b*ll*cks:
Dickson - on the field a total of 140 minutes - 1 goal
Todorov - 760 minutes - 4 goals (190 mins per goal)
Gray - 2900 minutes - 8 goals (350 mins per goal and four penalties at that!!!)
Waghorn - 390 minutes - 1 goal
Burton - 480 minutes - 1 goal
McLeod - 970 minutes - 1 goal
Dickson MUST get a start at Norwich - we have nothing to lose there.........
Id like to know how they can justify gambling on loanees by putting them straight into the starting 11 without any concrete first hand evidence of their ability yet a guy who scores goals for fun at gillingham and in the reserves is continually overlooked. Maybe he is useless in training but it might just be in his make up that he does best in a real games and the level we are playing at the moment isnt a million miles away from gillingham/ reserves.
Matt Spring today in one match has probably had half the first team match time Dickson has in all the time he has been with us.
I'm not judging Spring on today's performance. Dickson needs a start or two which he hasn't had. He's had 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there and not impressed particularly BUT we lack goals and the one thing he can do is score.
As others have said it can't be any worse can it? Also if Jonjo is now in the team, and after today he has to be, it would be a good time to pick Dicko as uncle pointed out last week having had the benefit of seeing them play together albeit in the stiffs.
on the one hand I don't understand some fans fixation with Dicko as I have seen nothing, including the ressies, to convince me BUT on the other hand if Waghorn, Gray, Burton can't do the business when why not give him a couple of games, for 90 minutes, and see what he can do. Same applies to Izzy. The worst that can happen is that they don't score just like the current picks don't. Who know though, they might surprise us all.
Exactly. For god's sake - we haven't won in EIGHTEEN games and can't score for nothing! Maybe it would be a good idea to try something different up-front, Parky!?
[cite]Posted By: RodneyCharltonTrotta[/cite]What about playing dickson and mcleod together as a pair? Nothing to lose at Norwich.
Not sure about that - Dicko as sole striker up front with Shelvey in the hole in front of the four man midfield will do the job - JonJo's flick ons and the two openings wasted by Burton - I immediately thought that Dicko would put one of them away at least and possibly both and start us on the way to 3 points.......
McLeod - NO WAY - one goal in 25 games this season beggars belief that his name is still being touted around

sure you don't want to check that before making such an assertion ???

well SilentAddick I've checked it out, question is have you ? He's started TWO games this season. His squad number is 25. Is that where you are getting confused ??

Oh bollocks! Read the wrong column - the one I was quoting from is the right hand the career total at Charlton - anyway this still proves the point that he was useless last season and why would he improve this season??
only 4 starts in his career. The sub appearances were all late on. Anyway, if you even thought he'd played 25 games this season maybe you are thinking of another player.
I repeat, where is this faith in Dickson coming from? What is it based on? I've seen every minute Dicko has played in a Charlton first team and I just don't get it.
Deluded, the lot of yer. Concentrate your energy on someone whose worth it, Jonjo, Nicky Bailey, Grant Basey even. Dicko is a waste of space... get rid.
Nobody is claiming he's a fantastic player or that he's the saviour. But the fact is that the bloke can score goals which is something all of our other strikers have failed to do all season. Strikers that have been given chance after chance. A killer instinct is something we desperately need. I think I speak for everyone pro-dickson when I say that we feel the bloke should be given a chance because he has something none of other strikers have. And what do we stand to lose? Worst he could do is not score, which wouldn't be worse than watching Gray or Burton start every match for the rest of the season.
This is a commonsense argument and is a lot more coherent than claiming he's a "waste of space" from bitpart cameos. Unless you're some kind of super scout.

The only delusion here is the disparagement of Chris Dickson. Some do not rate Dickson? Great, so what? Given the state of the team and the largely pathetic performances of the players here on loan, why isn't every Charlton supporter behind the players under the club's control getting playing time? Dickson and McLeod have almost no market value because they never see the pitch.
It is, to me, the height of idiocy to load up with the offal of other clubs in a desperate gambit to avoid relegation while simultaneously tarnishing the meager resources you have that might stave off administration.
Dicko and Izzy should play. Then, perhaps, the scouting talents of their detractors will be vindicated. Then again, perhaps not.
That he scored for fun during a brief spell at a lower level with Gillingham.
Am I wrong in thinking that Mcleod was incredibly prolific at a lower level? So to was Varney with Crewe. Deon Burton has an excellent strike rate in League One with Brentford & Rotherham in recent seasons.
I just don't understand the logic with the Dickson infatuation.
Goals in the last five games for CAFC: Shelvey; Bouazza; Bailey; Bailey.
Since Luke Varney's last goal on September 27th, Charlton's "strikers" have scored a total of six goals, one-third of those through penalty kicks. That's twenty matches and six goals.
I don't understand the logic of not calling for Dickson to get minutes...
Of all the things that are going wrong, for whatever reason, the lack of any playing opportunity, outside of Jonjo (who is exceptional), for the young and raw talent that we have under contract angers me the most.
If the two 24 year-olds get serious first team chances over a three game run and don't take advantage, then bury them. Until then, the braintrust that cannot find a way to harness the many talents of Yassin Moutaouakil is entitled to no deference.
Can I say that I am in both camps here and am somewhat surprised that the Charlton management team (whoever that has been) havent used him more to at least prove to the fans that he is/isnt the messiah some think he maybe.
His limited performances at the Valley have shown nothing special.
The one performance that sticks in my mind is at WBA in the cup replay. He tore the WBA defence apart that evening when he came on as substitute.
There must be much more going on behind the scenes. I am sure the Board will have asked the question why are we forking out more money on strikers when we already have this guy on the books. Someone must know more. Is it David Whyte all over again.
ive never said from day one that hes going to be the best striker in the world,it just puzzles me that he is our only striker not to get a game.yet mcleod comes back from injury and goes straight into the side..i know im going to get vfr excited when i say this, but i would love to see dickson and mcleod start against norwich, the worst they could do is not score.gray and burton spring to mind.........................
Dicko Loves Charlton and the time he has been here, He loved the fact that Pardew was embarresed by the fact we were chanting his name without seeing him play whilst his 2 favorite children were missing chance after chance.
He wants to repay us for that moment that he will never forget
HE DOESNT WANT TO LEAVE HE WANTS A CHANCE TO PLAY
he feels he has enough to offer compared to what we have got if you disagree fine but do not tell people he doesnt want to play for us as that is complete bollox
The sad thing is and someone touched on it on here yesterday he has been approached by one of our neighbours thing is they wont pay for him out right YET but he may go on loan
Complete shit the poast about he doesnt want to play here
What more does the bloke have to do to get a start or a run of games and the opportunity to look a shit as what we have got upfront
I think thats the whole issue here. No repeat NO ONE can say whether he's good enough or not untill he's had the same chances as the other non scoring forwards. I'd bet if he had the same amount of starts, he'd outscore Burton, Toddy,Gray and Waghorn. I bet he wouldn't be given 8-10 games without scoring, and still get picked. FFS settle this debate once and for all Parky. GIVE DICKO A BLOODY START.
Valley Floyd Red you really are utterly, utterly stupid.
for starters andy gray has only managed 6 goals this season, 3 of which were penalties. he has been abysmal this season the praise people give him for "holding up the ball" is utterly unfounded - he simply doesnt appear in games, does not put much effort in,does not win headers and - most importantly - does not even look remotely like scoring a goal in 9 out of every 10 games he plays.
chris dickson DESPERATELY does want to play for charlton - he has handed in a transfer request due to the appalling treatment he has received from our respective managers this season. he only ever gets 10 or 15 minutes to prove himself, at the end of matches generally by which point we are already dead and buried and the rest of the side are halfway down to the tunnel. he came on against norwich last week and made two or three excellent touches laying the ball out to wingers, outmuscled their full back and won the ball off him, and looked keen to get a shot.
and to say he is only a league 2 player is already stupid - he proved he is at least league 1 standard by his exceptional form for gillingham last season. and given our impending relegation to that division and the fact that we will not have most of our existing strikers next season, and dickson is also presumably on low wages, he is the one striker we should be fighting tooth and nail to hang onto.
i find it bizarre that you criticise people for putting faith in him apparently without any justification - he may well end up not being good enough, but i think 90% of charlton fans would actually like to have any evidence of this, rather than just continuing to persist with the abysmal strikers we are playing currently - deon burton made an excellent fist of those two early chances yesterday, didnt he?
