[cite]Posted By: SE7[/cite]McEvely I guess we be r only good signing in the window, along with this young Ivorian kid (providing he gets a work permit), but look on the bright side, at least Burton was free and we r getting around £1.5 for Varn , (note we hav made £500,000 loss on him), I reckon that will be all till the summer, can't see many others coming in unless they will be expericed loanees or more free's

    Getting (up to ) £1.5 million for a striker who can't score - I shouldn't wouldn't worry about losing £500k so much.

Imagine paying him £500k wages each season, and he still wouldn't score regularly in our team.

I'm sure I saw somewhere it's only £850k possibly rising to £1.5m. It's somewhere around £1m anyway which pays for Pardew's sacking.
  • [cite]Posted By: reserves[/cite]Sell Gray, the guy has forgotten how to jump.

    who's our top scorer

remarkable considering how bad we've been that he's managed the amount of goals he has
  • if we sell gray we'll be more down than we already are , if you know what i mean arry
  • True, but at the end of the day 6 is nothing to shout about
  • I think I'm having a negative Charlton day.

I can't see who we are going to be able to sign to make us better.

We've got little money and are currently in a desperate position which is likely to drive buying prices up further.

Anyone we're after will be wanted by similar clubs in better positions.

So we're left signing distinctly average players that nobody else wants, like good ol' Deon.

Good luck Phil in bringing these players in, because I think you might need it...

Oh dear, now I know how it feels to be one of the doom and gloom brigade...quick, Oggy, say something to draw my rose-tinted specs back to me...

    :(
  • Oggy help can't think of anything to tell em!
  • Surely though the sign of a Good manager is getting the maximum out of what you got & skillful dealings in the transfer market. We'll be finding out if our new manger falls into this category over the next four months or so.

He did what he could while the window was closed. A more solid left back to replace Youga, competition for Sam in a more experienced and intelligent player (though with less pace), and backup for Gray (and in his opinion someone that can play with Gray).

Pardew never did that, he signed at least 10 players that were for the future and might be good. Put several of them in a team together and it wasn't likely it would work.
  • I'm sorry if u r trying to say Gillespie was competition for Sam then I would have to strongly disagree, he was a pile of w***, had about 5-6 corners at QPR, not 1 beat the first man, yes Sam aint the best crosser of the ball, at least he can beat his man and has pretty good pace, Gillespie certainly had none of this!!!
  • On talking about predicition league

He was meant to be (edit, competiton for Sam). Parkinson had the right idea, but Gillespie was probably the best option at the time.

Unfortunately it didn't work out as well as Parkinson hoped.

Maybe it's helped Sam, he's since set up a couple of goals, hopefully we'll see more of that from him.
  • Marvellous, we should romp the league now
  • Just think of wat our opponent's defence must be thinking, s*** today we have to keep up with wiv Burton and Gray, I mean, even Darren Moore would laugh at that!!!
  • what signings were we expecting? we have no money and players will not be up for coming to us.

he's no superstar and he's not exactly an inspiring signing, but burton puts himself about and knows this level. with a bit of luck those qualities will help us scrap till we get out of this mess and then i expect he will move on. it is, imo, the lack of bottle in this team that has kept this long run going and some players with a bit of fight are our best hope.
  • I thought that he has looked Ok when I've seen him. His problem and his record bears this out, is that he is another proverbial Cows Arse with a Banjo man. I can see him being the answer on the goalscoring front but maybe his close control will make it easier for those around him to find the net.
  • Biggest problem we have is not creating a plentiful supply of decent chances.

Create enough chances and the law of averages should take over - a striker would normally expect to convert 1 in 3.
We seem to expect our strikers to score 1 in 1.

Even the Ronaldos and Rooneys can't do that!
