doesn't bode well for the rest of the window. I'd have got shot and have gotten a decent striker in. As it is we are not gonna score enough goals to get us out of this mess. Oh well .....

like who? what half decent player is gonna want to come anywhere near us at the mo?
[cite]Posted By: falconwood_1[/cite]But Large, there's only *one* Deon Burton
Thankfully....
The question is will he score more goals than Varney would have and if so then the swap would make footballing sense. Financially we had to sell Varney and signing a free transfer player makes sense, but only if he finds the back of the net more than Varney/forms a better partnership with Gray.
This must though be the oldest pair of strikers that we've put out in several seasons.
Ridiculous, he struggles to get in to a team which can't score and manages the same number of goals as our manager has wins '0'. Yet we give him a permanent contract. I guess Gray will no doubt be sold in January if we are taking Burton on, IMO a step backwards in quality of players..

He's scored one ;-) the penalty against Coventry.
Anyway we knew this would happen, it gives us an option over Andy Gray, and I really don't see where we're going to get someone significantly better.
He's not a great goalscorer, which yes we do need, but as a player he's not that bad. Everyone's talking like we've signed a 35 year old from a League Two club.
TBF when we signed him on loan they said it would be made permanat in January.
Haven't been too impressed by him, he only come here as his other option was Cheltenham, but his more mobile than Toddy, and better than McLeod so he will have to do.
McEvely I guess we be r only good signing in the window, along with this young Ivorian kid (providing he gets a work permit), but look on the bright side, at least Burton was free and we r getting around £1.5 for Varn , (note we hav made £500,000 loss on him), I reckon that will be all till the summer, can't see many others coming in unless they will be expericed loanees or more free's
Makes you wonder ..... how many proven quality Championship players are busting a gut to quit their current clubs and sign for a bottom of the League club with no money?
Just imagine Parky saying, "Please form an orderly queue, gentlemen, thank you"

Getting (up to ) £1.5 million for a striker who can't score - I shouldn't wouldn't worry about losing £500k so much.
Imagine paying him £500k wages each season, and he still wouldn't score regularly in our team.

Burton completes Charlton move
Posted on: Fri 02 Jan 2009
Deon Burton has finalised his permanent move to London outfit Charlton Athletic.
The former Owls striker initially joined the Addicks on loan with a view to a permanent free transfer at the back end of November.
Burton has since made four starts for Charlton, plus a further three outings from the bench, scoring one goal along the way.
The 32-year-old made 124 appearances for Wednesday and found the net 26 times.
looks like the boards :overwhelming: decision was justified then......

"There's only 1 donkey Pearson"
Then sign Tony Towner to supply JP.............and give Les Berry and Dave Shipperley a call to shore up the leaky defence

Hadn't thought of that. I am guessing it probably does. Oh dear.
Thought he linked up well with Gray on his debut against Southampton, since then......

I've been wondering that, hopefully not since he was already here.
I can see us struggling to get players the players we want and only bringing in a couple.
Burton has same problem but gray knows where the goal is!
