Look at Son of Selhurst's posts; he's not emotionally involved with Charlton, so stripping away the emotion, he can see our situation as it really is.

Oggy, to counter that my wife came to Narwich, as we go to dinner with my boss afterwards. Until a couple of years ago she'd had a season ticket for five years or more. Saturday was the first game she had seen all season. She really couldn't believe how shocking we were, although I told her we have been even worse than that. I put more store in what she said as she was looking at it more dispassionately that I or indeed many of us. Her points included :

No leadership on the pitch
No creativity in midfield
No pride in the shirt
A collective lack of ability
Lack of motivation
No players with any real affection for the Club (ie a Kins or a Powell)

I could go on but you get the picture. SOS may well be looking at it unemotionally but, in my opinion, he is in the glass half full camp but his glass is nearly overflowing. We have nothing to hang our hat on, nothing to give us any hope. If we are to escape this season we need to appoint a new man asap, at least as soon after Sheff Utd away as possible, give him a week to assess the squad and then wheel and deal. He should have been in at least two weeks ago to have done this and in the meantime we might have picked up a few results too. Unfortunately the Board have dithered and we are suffering for it. Pards went three games too late and we have no effectively spent 11 games in limbo land picking up just 4 points along the way.
•
[cite]Posted By: Chunes[/cite]I'll look out for you, Matt. By the sounds of it you'll be wearing a cape, smoking a pipe and signing up for some activity or group of which you claim to have no real interest in. By the looks of it, if you weren't out solving mysteries you'd lead an incredibly dull existence.
Sir, I demand you retract the statement about the cape and the pipe. You are correct that there was a period in my life where I solved mysteries, but I did so whilst driving around the UK in a van with a sexy lady, a lesbian and a hippy & his dog. These days my activities vary - one day I might be playing backgammon at my club whilst enjoying a perky Chablis, the next I could be shooting pheasant with the Duke of Devonshire at his Cotwolds retreat.

I will be in town for the game on the 27th, as I do enjoy the company of Charlton Athletic fans. I have always found them to be pleasant and welcoming, a bit like visiting a kindly old aunt whose purpose in life is undefined since the children flew the nest and her husband died, the opposite of the roustabouts and yahoos at Millwall.

I think you'll get out of this because

A. your squad is capable of a higher position than the one you currently occupy. They just need confidence and a back basics approach to the game. A new manager will bring this.
B. As poor as you have been you are by no means a drift.
C. Southampton are poor and getting poorer.
D. someone else who is not even in the relegation scrap at present will also drop in to the mix.
E. The CAFC job was a poison chalice for anyone following Curbishley, it was like following o'neill at leicester. No one was going to improve on what curbs did. But now CAFC are on their heels at actually a pretty good job to take over... the only way is up and all that.
F. A new manager will be appointed and it almost does not matter who it is, they are bound to get some kind of positive reaction.
G. And we'd love it if you went down, so if only to pee us off you'll stay up and we'll all be moaning about jammy charlton.

A. Agreed but the bosses seem reluctant to appoint one and we can't afford anyone decent.
B. We need 2 wins to get out of the bottom 3, we haven't had 1 win in the last 14 games.
C. They still got a point at our place.
D. Everyone else bar Southampton is at least 8 points ahead of us, the way we're going we might not get another 8 points all season.
E. Agreed
F. True but it'd better be quick because we are wasting games.
G. I hope so but with every passing week the disastrous scenario of you lot going up, Millwall going up and us going down looms ever larger.
