Curbs or indeed a decent manager of any name isn't necessarily the answer to our problems. I think maybe we have downgraded our squad and lost so much confidence that financing a couple of decent pros is more key and probably the only realistic chance we have of getting out of this spiral.
[cite]Posted By: LargeAddick[/cite]I was told a couple of weeks ago that Curbs would be back 1st week in January with Dean Keily returning too. Didn't put much store in this but with this betting news and parky being put in charge till beginning of Jan who knows.
who told you?
no-one in the know, as far as I know, hence not mentioning it before.
Curbs is 9/1 for the Sunderland job @ William Hill, I would have thought his odds would have gone out from this morning if the bets were big on the CAFC bet. Does anyone know what they were start of today?
this league wont be so exciting if curbs comes back with his safety first attitude i prefer pardew he's gotta better personality................aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh ;-)
good point WSS pardews two year plan to get us out of the league was well on course and his successor is doing his utmost to carry on the good work, we don't want curbs spoiling that now do we ;-)
No disrespect to the starting poster, but him and his firm were stating that all the money was on Aidy Boothroyd at the end of December, and nothing come of that. So while it is interesting, i would still take it with a pinch of salt.
I'm not sure Curbs has demonstrated the ability to turn things around in this short notice to a new club, without being given a very large wad of cash to do it...
think for curbs the Sunderland job is a good shout. Wouldnt be a god thing 4 him to come back here. Although from the boards view has to be a winner, alot of fans want it , the media would say its a coup.
Charlton Athletic Football Club MADE Curbs ------------ thats MADE him. He wasnt a manager before our club gave him the chance, the longevity to get it right and the money.
who would want a manager that consistently delivers a mid-table premiership side when we are spoiled with all the fun that the lower leagues can throw at us?
cos when curbs left we've gone in one direction while he kept west ham up and got them to tenth and left them in 5th ;-).... coincidence .....erm err NOT
i mean it's not rocket science ffs
but then the truth hurts and we can continue to pretend it was just lucky for curbs

Personally I think that Curbishley coming back would be a mistake for both parties.
Certainly not surprised people state that view BDV, but would be interested in your specific reasons on why it would be a mistake for both parties.
If he was to come back, I think it would be seen by many in the game that Charlton is his limit and that he's not up to the really big jobs. He could also forget an aspirations of the England job. I don't know if it's right but wasn't being overlooked last time one of his reasons for not wanting to sign a new contract?
I also think that things have changed at the Valley. When he was here it was very much the Murrey and Curbishley show, with Murrey letting him do things his way, would that still be the case?
From our view do we really want to be seen as Curbishley's safety blanket?
As it stands at the moment, Curbishley is a Charlton legend, what if it didn't work out second time round? What if he doesn't acheieve the sort of success that the fans demend and would the expectations be realistic. By the same token, would the board be prepared to sack him if things didn't work out or would he be allowed to stay too long (as he was last time in my opinion) because of his past glories?
I've nothing to back any of this up and don't want to get into an argument with the Curbishley fan club, it's just my gut feeling that you should never go back.
Curbishley is a Charlton legend, I have no problem admiting it, do we or he really want or need to see that tarnished?

Ha Ha Ha, nice one.. how much did it cost the Whammers though? MONEY makes the world go round..
success for now is 4th bottom and i think curbs would have more chance than most to get us there so ship him in i say... what's the worse that could happen we'll go down and have a decent manager at the helm rather than a smooth talking car salesman who can pull the wool over our eyes
would you remarry your ex who was clearly only interested in you as a last resort and would ship out as soon as a better offer came along? ok some shouldn't answer that but you get my meaning?

Truth hurts?? What are you talking about??
I could understand comments like that if Curbishley had been scaked but he wasn't, he left. He had the option to stay, he didn't want to so he left. Some fans were happy some were not but neither makes any differenece because we didn't make the decision, HE MADE IT HIMSELF!
If you have a problem with that, why don't you take it up with Curbishley and ask him why he left. I would be interested to know what he says.
Quite frankly, I'm sick of having this discussion. If he comes back, I'll support him and if he gets us back to the prem, no-one will be happier than me to eat humble pie.
Comments
fair enough....
Plus if we did get him all you would ever post is about our away support being crap & nothing else :-)

"we dont deserve him" sorry thats kak.

it was CharltonAthletic Fooball Club wh gave Alan Curbishley his chance as a manager ,if they hadnt he might be a road sweeper now.
