[cite]Posted By: supaclive[/cite]It shouldn't have been a penalty (mcleod was falling over) and burton did his best to miss
Varney never missed a penalty for us either .... and didn't take them - but has scored more than McLeod and Burton this year .... and his strike rate for Derby is better than Burton's for us!
I think you'll find it's the same! I'm by no means saying that McLeod and Burton are class at all, all I'm saying is I don't think they're any worse than Varney.
NLA, I think you are right, I doubt very much that he will come back, and it's obvious you don't rate him. My point is that with him in the team, with his speed (and a new manager to instill some confidence in him) that we are far more of an attacking threat than without him. I would much rather have him in the side for the remainder of the season than an old journeyman like Burton who is hardly likely to score any more goals.
No, he did no worse than every other player on that pitch and it was his first real start in ages from a bad injury sorry he didnt get a hat trick like young luke would of
The point that seems to be missed -- is that most of you are slagging off Burton and McLeod for lack of goals, BUT it's lack of chances created that surely is the main issue.
Even the best strikers in the world don't score many if they don't get the service.
There's very little creativity = very few chances. And no striker can maintain a goal/chance ratio of 1:1 for very long
I agree i dont rate Burton i really dont but the Love in for Lukey is getting silly, When we lost reid i could understand the fans frustrations i really could but Varns had issues real issues and they have been mentioned on here
he had to go it is not that i didnt rate him, i did as a footballer but as a striker no, i never i always thought he was more winger, but he couldnt hack the big city it was not him or his life style, his love affair with Pardew made me feel uneasy at times and maybe why i dont like him much
Alrite buddy i am off now chat later for what it is worth folks i dont rate the clown or burton or Gray but imo none of them were blameless 2nite but none of them were the real reason we lost
anyway i am off before nss gets me in to trouble by association

with these points in mind, perhaps we should get varney back to whip in those crosses for burton/mclown to stick the ball in the back of the net!!!!!!;-)
Varney has gone for whatever reason, Mcleod is limited and one must assume Dickson is even more limited if he cannot get the gig above Mcleod.
Toddy was class but crocked and thus a shadow of his former self. Gray can do a job from set pieces and crosses if he gets the service, rather like Big Chris as we are seeing him do at Wolves.
We lack midfielders and wingers to give a proper service so we need strikers who can create things for themselves.
As things stand Mcleod, through his pace, is the only one who can do that. It doesn't say much but that is the sorry state that we have declined to.
anyone else think that toddy has doubled in size he looks massive and clinton morrison has been in the pie shop... i thought both of these used to be lean and mean and now they're like heavyweights
my twopenneth. I'd rather have Varney than Burton or McLeod. McLeod was no worse than anyone else tonite and did at least 'win' a penalty. Dickson must be pants if he can't get a game ahead of this lot. Will Waghorn get another chance ?
Saying that it could be worse, we could have signed Eastwood, he looked crap too and so disinterested. In fact would suit us down to the ground.

I ask the question again. Why? Because the two people (together and individually) in charge of selecting the team have been so successful in doing so?
Many years ago a certain player was released by Manchester United at the age of 21 without a single League start. He went onto play 59 times for England and was probably one of the best "link" forwards to ever grace the top flight. His name - Peter Beardsley.
Dickson is no Peter Beardsley but might be another Ian Wright. Managers make their reputations by making the right decisions as Steve Coppell did when he gave Ian Wright his break. Dickson seems to be the eternal "fall guy" because the people in charge seem duty bound to play either their costly purchases (Varney, Gray & McCleod) or their own loan signings (Burton & Waghorn).

I didn't mention it here but I have in other threads.
Though I still think McLeod is a poor player for this level.

Sometimes these things don't work out.

I'm waiting to lock up for the night !

Golfie's just come on line - I'm waiting for his post .... ;-)
did he miss open goals
did he fail to shoot with the goal at his mercy

Oh bloody great ! I can't take no more, night folks :-)

that was a comical penalty....
he tripped over his oversized clown boots

don't go near him!!
lol - but maybe its the shock they need to spark them into life! perhaps he should shake their hands before the match starts!!
