The Charlton I d like back is one of hard working and commited players being a part of a football team I love. It really dosnt matter what division. Some of the most exciting and passionate games I have seen at the valley were in the old division three.

Our problems are down to a lot more than just passion. We have players putting in the effort (not saying all of them all the time). In fact I'd say Varney was trying too hard at times, trying to force a goal, Bailey could be the same, trying passes he shouldn't do in desperation, trying to create a chance.
I agree totally Scoham, I never did think the answer was just passion. I think we need some consistency and patience, it might take going down another level, but instead of just patching things up a team can grow from youth players and older players who are totally commited to the club.
[cite]Posted By: stubs1310[/cite]I get the impression that the real reason we are in this state is because the board can't afford to honour their promise of free season tickets if we get promoted and therefore would have been happy to 'just miss out' on the play-offs. They only really seemed to act on Pards after the demo began callling for the board to be sacked! and asking 'where the money had gone?'
yawn.... on promotion that moulah needed would come easy!
Though you make some interesting points, Stubs, I think the think the truth is far more mundane.
The board were slow to sack Pardew because we simply couldn't afford to do it. Now we have, and we are going to have sell players to pay the useless tosser off.
That is also why Parkinson will probably be our next permanent manager (in League one, by the looks of it) because we are skint. Borassic lint. Potless.
Talk of Curbs and big Sam is just pure fantasy. Its credit crunch football for us from now on. We dined at the top table for a while and had the odd trip to Harvey Nicholls, and it was nice while it lasted. But now we are definitely shopping in Netto with the rest...
I went to see Gillingham on Saturday. It was the first time that I had seem them this season. I caught several of their games last year on days CAFC weren't at home, except on one of the bank holidays when my son and I saw Gillingham play a 3pm K.O then straight afterwards went to CAFC for the evening game (I live in Meday and myson lives in Bexley and he had been staying with me for the weekend so I dropped him off home after CAFC'S game) . Anyway my point is lasy year Gillingham were awaful, berift of ideas and generally not atthe races (sounds familiar). However on Saturday their performance was a complete contrast, players competing for the ball, skill in abundance and lots and lots of endeavor. CAFC may get relegated this year, who knows but it may not be the disaster people think. I honestly think though that Charlton will turn it around but in order to do so need a stable line-up, organisation at the back, leadership on and off the field (something that has bneen woefully lacking this season) and endeavor. It can't help with players coming in just for a game before being dropped for the next- thats no way to build understanding, teamwork or consistincy! (I know I've spelt that wrong!) Personally I think Hudson is too quiet for a captain and is too hesitant at times. Give the captaincy to someone else and allow Hudson to concentrate on his own game for time being and to get his timing back. We need a cult figure to emerge, someone the fans can rally behind, who'll take it and translate the passion onto the playing field.
[cite]Posted By: stubs1310[/cite]I was under the impression that Davies had asked for 24 hours to think it over and the board FEARING that he was going to turn them down snapped up Dowie..
That was not the case. Davies never came back to the board and he and his agent never return the phone calls. The board then turned to Dowie. Big, big mistake.

Thanx for enlightening me on that point re Davies. Were any of you at the demo- I was watching it and no -one seemed too preturbed until the board started to get cat calls- then there were lots of activity within the foyer. Also proportionally to the amount of fans involved to attendance it was really low- the board could easily have ignored it for a week or two. Not like Newcastle when Thousands demonstrated. There must only have been about two or three hundred involved and lots of them were youngsters.

Well it is you claiming that the demo was the deciding factor in the board's decision to sack Super Alan Pardew.
I don't know but personally I think it was getting dicked 5-2 at home to Sheffield Utd. Just my view mind.
I am not saying it was purely the demo as the board HAD to act sooner or later but I do think they took the heat away from themselves quite sharpish when the demo began 'questiioning' their role in the whole sorry state of affairs. It also seemed to be quite a co-incidence that it was days after the proposed take over had fallen through. If it had gone through, they could have said that it was atransisitional period for the club etc etc but that option was taken from them- so they had to be seen to act. It is a valid point though- where has all the money gone- on poor signings and wages for players who don't deserve their salaries. I pity poor Matty Holland- he gives his all- week in and week out and looks absolutely knackered.

Nice to see an 'outsider' telling us some home truths.
What I really want to know is though, whose results do you look for first? :-)

Hey-ho.

A really nonsensical post.

Even Pardew seemed to know the game was up...

And I would have said that the Zebeel deal fell throw weeks, if not months, before Pardew was sacked rather than "days".
