Just Who Has applied for the job-any guesses

edited December 2008 in General Charlton
My 13 year old son, who is a season ticket holder and I spent last evening trying to work out just who was amongst the applicants for the vacancies. We could only come up with 30 or so names -so any one got any any ideas- Heres our list for starters...

Billy Davies
John Gregory
Denis Wise
Gus Poyet
Ian Holloway
Phil Parkinson
Mark Kinsella
Mervyn Day
Keith Peacock
Lawrie Sanchez
David O'leary
Aidy Boothrooyd
George Costa
Mark Robson
Steve Staunton
Bryan Robson
Martin Allen
Steve Cotterill (been seen in the directors box on a couple of occasions already this season! Our seats are right next to it!)
Kevin Keegan
Peter Taylor
Peter Withe (was until recently Thailands manager-replaced by Peter Reid)
Martin Ling (apparently applied for Swindons job!)
Jim Jefferies
Glenn Hoddle
Mike Newell
Bruce Rioch
Steve Tilson
Andy Hessanthalar
George Graham

This list is purely speculative but who can be added to it then- discuss?

    lol
  • I believe Parky will be at the helm for the rest of this season, financial situation dictates it.

I believe we will improve enough to at least stay in the division, and with some wheeling & dealing in January and getting rid of the loanees, we will have a better, hungrier squad, but only just enough to regroup properly in the summer, and hopefully some outside investment.

Perspective is needed, there are far worse situations we have been in, and worse things going on in the world, nobodys died, and it is, after all, just a bloody game.

We are being beaten by teams that have stabillity and are also playing as teams, how can players come in in January and turn it around there just isnt enough time by then.
We can hope for a long time for investment!
The board have provided us as supporters with a fantastic stadium and put in place structures to suit the situation, they only need those people to DO their job and that should be enough!

Absolutely. My view of football has changed forever over the last couple of weeks and I don't think it will dominate my life ever again. My son went into hospital on the day of the QPR game to have an infected cyst removed from his neck but there were complications as it had attached itself to the jugular vein. A simple procedure turned into a nightmare after the surgeon 'nicked' the vein causing him to lose a lot of blood. It was touch and go at one point but he survived and is now on the road to a full recovery with his 'Action Man' scar.

As for Charlton at the moment, I couldn't care less whether they survive or get relegated. As you say, it's only a game.

Glad he got through that Valley, what a nightmare that must've been.

I have it on good authority that Peter Taylor has only 'made it known he would be interested in the job', not actually applied. Like we need another half-arsed Palace mug in the place. No thanks.

PS, what a sorry list that is - can't think of any on there I would want in charge.
  • No one has applied because it hasn't been advertised. Simple as that.
  • Glad he's alright Valley sorry to hear that, here's wishing for a full recovery.

I also think Parky will stay and hope he does well, not too may names on that list I'm bothered about, if we were going to go for someone I'd like to see Steve Clarke, definitely worked for Hull going for an experienced number 2.
  • think he would cost alot of compo
  • Probably right, not saying it will happen just who I'd like to see, but you never know he may have a get-out clause if a club want him as manager.

I think after tomorrow the board have to either make Parky full-time manager or put someone else in. If we lose that's going to be a very tough decision to make.

Paulo Di Canio next charlton boss - FACT
  • jeeesus VM that is every parents worst nightmare, If anything would get me to forget about the trial s and tribulations at the Valley it would be something like that,

DA9 you are 100% right although i am pissed off at the current plight we are where we are getting wound up about it aint going to change anything
  • [cite]Posted By: Rorzzman[/cite]Paulo Di Canio next charlton boss - FACT

and how much fact is that? hope not, we need experience now.

Saw he was watching his beloved hammers last night

Paulo Di Canio flew into the country yesterday, took in the West Ham game last night, and is meeting with our board this afternoon. Will be announced as new manager before the game tonight and will come out before the game and give a wave.

My mate who works for a large cement company told me this is concrete. His wife works in our club shop and we put a large order in yesterday for for the individual letters of his surname to go on the back of shirts.

    Forza Charlton !

  • Yep, Paulo di Canio, player-manager.

You know, AFKA ....... always ahead with news, he knows the right people.
  • Fantastic.

I can't wait to see Henry give 'The Roman salute'.
  • steve clarke ?
  • Just the sort of inspiration we need both on and off the field.
  • surely people must have sent in their championship manager/ football manager credentials, must be a couple of those.
I mean if you can take crawley town for the BPL to the premiership and turn them into the kings of europe within 10 seasons then you must be a serious contender...
My record on chamionship manager was always a bit poor, and usually involved taking over man u and getting them o buy kevin lisbie for £20 mill - bargain! So i decided not to apply. Plus being manager i don't think i'd be able to post on here anymore. Although i think if my tactics can be adopted and we can click add manager and take over chelsea just for a few weeks for a bumper £40mill transfer for varney to go through, then i think this is the route we should be taking...
  • Paulo would be a turn up for the books, atleast he may show are players how to put the ball in the bloody net

If they are that confident its boll**, why such short odds, 14-1 for a supposed no goer is quite mean....30-1. 40-1, 50-1 + if their that confident

Maybe she was more laughing at me being a charlton fan, it was a kind of laugh/sympathy/snigger!!

This was how I took it - well love some1's gotta support them haven't they

oh and dowie is stil at 50-1, as iff that should be 1000-1 or just none runner
  • The Steve Clarke thing seems to gaining some momentum, just had a client on the phone who works for skysports and was talking it through with him and he said he had herd it too.. Another loss tonight and the board feel they will have to act quickly... Curbs has said no, forget Alerdyce and other 'Big Names' but Clarke could be a deff front runner..
