"some people have applied for the job" - Well what a shock unemployed managers and those at smaller clubs, like Kenny Jacket, apply for a vacant post
"An insider has said they are high quality" = We don't have any names.
"Charlton will have to find £1m to pay off Pardew" = "we don't have a quote for this either or how long it will be paid over if at all but Wyn Grant said £4.5m recently so people will swallow anything. We can make up a figure and someone will take it as gospel and be quoted it as proof of something very soon.
Bit harsh on Tony Hudd, Henry. He's a good reporter and well connected. Fairly cautious and doesn't take flyers. And if he is right that Allardyce is one of 40 who has applied (although I suspect 'enquired' might be a better word), I think he's got a decent enough story there.

Tony is a great guy and well connected I know but that is a flyer and you, as a journo, must see that. No content, big name thrown in but "thought to have applied"
[cite]Posted By: yung2368[/cite]I just think that if parky is not on top of the list then why him? I know we have no meny and in debt but if we keep parky and go to league 1 then what is the difference? I will rather borrow money and hire a qualify manager instead. Like I post before, i will rather not to get marry if I cannot find the right girl instead of just have sex with a "ugly" one.
What part of the States did you say you lived in? Maybe we can put you in touch with some other Addicks locally.
No reputable journalist makes a name up like that, least of all Tony Hudd.
When he says Allardyce is "thought to have applied'' that is because he's been told that he has - but off the record. Presumably by Richard Murray. That means he can't say it outright but has to couch it langauge such as "thought to", "understood to have", "believed to" ...it's classic 'you might say that, I couldn't possibly comment' stuff.
If I'm wrong, then Tony Hudd is not the honourable (and honest) reporter I've always believed him to be. But I don't think I am. So I say 'well done, Tony, good story, the most authorative we've read anywhere since Pardew was sacked and Parky became caretaker'.

Maybe I do Tony a diservice for which I apologise but there are plenty of less then reputable who use that trick every day.
I would be amazed if Big Sam has applied for the job (what little cash we do have, we plan to give to Mr Pardew as a 'well done for being so completely and utterly shit' Christmas present).
If he has, we should bite his hand off (sorry parky).
Like you say nigel, he wouldn't have to wait long for a prem job, I'm sure...
