  • I think we should forget about Curbs. It never works second time around, he'd have serious financial restraints and he probably feels that he's been there, done that and got the teeshirt. Basically he's done the hard graft and he should hang on for a PL job. And any suggestion of doing it on a temporary basis won't work. He left because he wouldn't committ beyond the next year and we wanted stability.
  • [cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]Can't see Curbs coming back but remember odds follow the money and don't mean anything about what the board are thinking.

This is right. Given the speculation on here let alone in the press that Curbs is returning, it's no wonder people are lumping on.

Parky was just too closely associated with Pards to be considered for the post and must take a lot of responsibility for the poor performances of the players. IMHO he should have walked with Pardew.
If he didn't agree with Pards decisions he should have been more vociferous in an effort to make Pardew see some sense long before it reached this state of affairs.

How do you know he didn't? None of us was at the training ground or in the manager's office everyday.

Maybe Pardew overruled all Parky's good ideas or maybe Parky told Pardew what to do and say. We just don't know.
  • Not that we thought it at the time he came to the club but Parkinson's experience of succeeding at Colchester with zero money might actually now come in very handy indeed.....

I too have doubts that he may be too close to the Pardew set-up (he would surely have been instrumental in bringing in Iwelumo, for example) but I think he probably has as good a Championship pedigree as any other realistic target.
  • Why is Dwie on this list ?

Would anyone really put money on him
  • Dowie's coming in and Les Reed is going to be his assistant.

    Heard it here first.

I don't. But he should have walked for the poor coaching alone. Every player has gone backwards under the regime. We have scored very few goals from open play and the amount of goals we have conceded from set pieces is criminal. That is all down to coaching, and he was the coach.

    ha ha oh please no
  • Dowie is currently working for Showsports in Dubai with the guy who use to present goals on sunday.

He is one of the 2 studio guests and has been on both sat and sunday this week commentating on the prem games.

As the studio is in Dubai and not london it must be a nice little earner for him.

Strangely enough he is quite good, comes across quite well and you could see why he has convinced 3 clubs in a little 2 yrs to hire him.

He did come out with the classic ' I am a big west ham fan' blah blah though!.

  • Just looked at Skybet to see if the odds had changed "following the money'' (the odds I listed at the top of this thread on Sunday morning were not based on bets placed, but were the opening book odds created by Skybet before any money was laid).

Anyway, they seem to have taken the book down. It now just says "the event you have selected is no longer available for betting."

Perhaps they realised Parky at 7/1 was far too generous...
  • Curbs or Big Sam for me (money dependant).

I think the board need to realise that to save us this season they need to bring in someone who will gain the respect of the players from day 1 and also get the supporters back onside. This is given. However why not also see this as a chance to mend the mistakes of the past 2/3 years and get in someone who can lead us back to the PL. Not just look at this as a short-term fix. To do that we have to bring in someone with a proven track record.
  • I'd back Parky at the moment but would prefer a Billy Davies type to sweep things clean and get into the players.

Big Sam loves a pound note so you can rule him out and I'd be stunned if Curbs came back.

Odds are back up on Skybet now, must have been a glich.

They haven't moved since first being posted yesterday morning, so it's still got to be worth a punt on Parky at 7/1.

It occurs to me that if someone like Curbs came until the end of the season - or even if Parky was confirmed but only for the remainder of the season - they might refuse to pay out on the grounds that the book is on the appointment of a 'permanent manager'.
  • for what it's worth, i'd be massively surprised if curbs came back.

and to throw another name in the hat, Chris Coleman? or Darren Ferguson <-- (as if)
  • chris coleman.....

always liked tha fact he was permanantly angry...
  • there are 2 firms offering odds on the next charlton manager. both now have boothroyd as favourite.
  • PBS - Can you cut n paste the odds here, the internet police have banned the link page.
    Ta.
  • Aidy Boothroyd 5/4 6/4
    Alan Curbishley 3 6/5
    Phil Parkinson 5 7
    Lawrie Sanchez 10
    Billy Davies 11
    Sam Allardyce 12 12
    Gus Poyet 11 12
    Steve Tilson 14
    Steve Cotterill 14 14
    Joe Kinnear 16
    David OLeary 16 16
    Andy Hessanthaler 18
    Mark Kinsella 20
    Ian Holloway 22 20
    Dennis Wise 22 20
    Chris Powell 28
    Glenn Hoddle 28 16
    John Gregory 33 33
    Bryan Robson 33
    Ray Wilkins 33
    Iain Dowie 33 50
  • I just can't see why we would want Boothroyd - what could he do for us that he couldn't manage at Watford? We are both in fairly comparable positions on and off the field.

This is interesting because the first set of odds we had on Sunday morning were the openng of the book before any money went on.

There's clearly been a bit of cash swung behind Boothroyd over the last few hours and when that happens you always wonder what people know. The Times stuck its neck out for Boothroyd this morning and was a lone voice - but sounded like it might have been a bit better informed than the rest of the pack which just did the 'Curbs poised for emotional return' knee-jerk. But who knows?

Still good odds on Parky. Nobody seems to give him much chance of the job - either press or bookies. Which might just make him the (unofficial) favourite!
  • Please not Boothroyd! The worrying thing is that out of the above list, there are only 6 that I would be happy with. The majority of them wouldn't just be bad choices, they would be disasters!
  • Sky Sports Poll

Taking out the votes the Palace fans have been making for Dowie (in some hilarious attempt to grasp any sort of CPFC link to our demise and therefore "get us back" for relegating them) it makes interesting reading.

Good argument hugely undermined by the fact that he was assistant manager rather than coach!

Does anybody with an inside track know what Parky has been told?

Is it caretaker as in :

    a) you are holding the fort while we appoint someone else?

    or

    b) you are on trial for the job on a permanent basis?

Big difference and one that is hard to fudge, so I'm presuming he must have been told which it is. The bookies generous odds suggest they think it is the former. But does anybody know if that is based on hard intelligence?
  • By the look on Parky's face yesterday and this is just an assumption I reckon he has been told we are looking put your case forwrd by getting points on the board over the next 2 weeks

but he looked mighty pleased to be in charge and i dont think we would be signing anyone if he wasnt going to be around by the next home game
  • Don't think the two are mutually exclusive. May have been told A) but if you impress then you will have a chance.
  • What he has to prove is that an insider can cure the malaise, and I am sure that is everyone's hope.
If we start doing better and get out of the bottom three soon (eg WLD sort of pattern) then surely the job is Parky's.
If on the other hand we stay in the bottom three and/or averaging no more than a point a game then then he won't have long.
    Anything inbetween could be insufferable!

It is going to be one game at a time and a win this week is essential to give him some breathing space, a win tomorrow would surely do wonders for morale and his credo.
  • I think the Gillespie signing had to have been arranged pre sacking myself....
  • well, skybet have no market at the moment, but victor chandler do and the money is being put on parky. a;so intrest in davies and sanchez.

    Phil Parkinson 9/4

    Billy Davies 13/2
    Lawrie Sanchez 7
