Next permanent manager : here are the odds

edited November 2008 in General Charlton
Well Skybet would seem to think it's as near as dammit to a done-deal. Which I am sure it is not. But here's what they're offering:

Curbishley A 1/2
Boothroyd A 4/1
Parkinson P 7/1
Poyet G 12/1
Allardyce S 12/1
Cotterill S 14/1
Hoddle G 16/1
OLeary D 16/1
Holloway I 20/1
Allen M 20/1
Wise D 20/1
Robson B 33/1
Gregory J 33/1
Little B 33/1
Wilkins R 33/1
Dowie I 50/1

  • I hope Skybet know what they are talking about. 7 - 1 on Parky seems a good bet tho !
  • Seems a bit of inside info going on there. 1/2 for Curbs..................there has to be something in it. Cotterill would be a good bet at 14's for a manager who knows this league.
  • May be all the players should be encouraged to put a week's wages on Parky, SHG, then they'll have a substantial added incentive to play their socks off for him on Tues night !
  • New manager has to be an outsider & no-one currently connected to the club (ie, Parky or Kins)

I'd go for either Poyet, "mad-dog" Allen or Holloway.
  • A major problem we have is that I don`t think the board have any breathing space in appointing a new man. Its imperative that the new manager is installed PDQ for a variety of pressing reasons.
  • I cant see any further than Parkie for a couple reasons,

    1. Wont cost the club a thing

    2. Will not have to pay off current management team

    3. There will not need to be a overhaul of structure within the club, and would be something that would and should be done in the summer
  • that is amazingly short odds for curbs, collymore indicated that curbs was waiting in the wings last night from whispers he had heard.

    you never know

bar wise, dowie, boothroyd i wouldnt be too peed off with any of them
  • Mind you its the same old names when a job pops up
  • true there but it does show that there are some good managers out there

why is ramos not on that list :-)
  • Who is Ray Moss nla ?

  • he is the brother of stirling i hear he is quite good just a tad old.
  • and the uncle of kate
  • Are they sure?! O'Leary, Hoddle, Robson, Wise, Wilkins, Dowie!! Absolutely no chance.
Must admit i had heard from a 'mate of a mate' a couple of weeks back that Curbs was being lined up for a return. I dismissed it at first but looking at the odds it seems someone somewhere knows something for him to be that short in the betting.
  • I've been musing on Parky's odds at 7/1 and there has to be something behind that.

Skybet are not a charitable organisation. They hate handing out money on long odds - and 7/1 is ridiculously generous on someone who is, in effect, the incumbent.

To offer odds like that they must have it from what they believe to be an authoritative source that it is not in the board's mind to make Parky a permanent appointment, even if we win 3-0 at QPR on Tues night...
  • Curbs has definitely been lined up. We are just leaving a respectable pause before making the anouncement on friday before the Saints match. Nailed on ;-)
  • "I remember getting 18-1 on the Finland heavy metal band to win Eurovision when it was obvious to anyone with a brain they would walk it."

Well next time you get a tip like that, FAH, please don't forget to share it with the rest of us !!!
  • Poyet sounds a good bet. Might be a good manager as well. Him or Parky for me at the moment.

Can't see Curbs coming back but remember odds follow the money and don't mean anything about what the board are thinking.

Now what the board should do is put £1m on an outsider and cash in. Then sack them after a month ; - )
  • No to Oleary, Robson, Wise, Gregory, Cotterill, Allardyce, Boothroyd, Allen

I believe Curbs would be a step backwards, he took us as far as he could, we need to look forward, not back

    Yes to?
  • Curbs to the end of the season to get us back on our feet and strengthen his credentials for a Prem job? Ideally with Kins or Powell as number two, ready to take over in the summer.

    Dream on ;-)

  • Mmmm 50-1 on Dowie that's good value isn't it? No wonder you never see a poor bookie. They could offer 1000-1 and still sleep soundly.
  • Allardyce for me, dont think we could afford him though.

I cant see Curbs coming back but I dont think it would be a step backwards either.

    or Les Reed? :)
  • amazed Billy Davies isn't on that list and fairly near the top to boot.
  • LA agree but i'd take curbs back tbh....
  • its been a tough few years.......

to go back to something we know, to someone , who for all his misgivings, repsects the club ........

for me this is the right move.....
  • I am sorry Curbs took us as far as he could and would be a step backward - Where did he leave the club in the bottom 3 of the second division. I think not....

I'd like to be mid table in the Premiership now - and I am never going to complain again or get caught up in any great big bubbles again!!

    we got above our station......

I bet you if he got us back to looking like charlton again with some ground out wins we would sing his name to the south london night sky!!!
  • I think it would be forward actually to have him take us back up and then maybe look at another manager that could take us forward or even allow him some funds?
