I am in the doubting thomas brigade, but most people posting on here seem to be in the cynical negative carping on brigade :-)

Tomorrow may or may not be any sort of a turning point for the team, who knows.
  • Good on the positive thinkers, keep the faith and keep hope alive. Think your question, Dan, is unreasonable. Why should they have to justify themselves any more than the anyone else. They have all argued their corner very well over the last few weeks.

And why does tomorrow have to be a turning point. Maybe it will and maybe it won't but even a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. Let's hope tomorrow is one of those small steps forward.

    All together now

When you walk through a storm
    Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
    Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

    Walk on through the wind
    Walk on through the rain
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown
    Walk on, walk on
    With hope in your heart.........

The intention was to try and inject some light-hearted positivity, though i would have spent more time wording it better if i knew every word was going to be fecking analysed
  • I'm opitimistic*

*that no matter what happens on the pitch and in the stands tomorrow afternoon, we'll all still be miserable come 5:15pm. It's the modern condition.

ok, why are we singing songs about/for other teams! the first one is by a canadian about chelsea and the 2nd one is for scousers and celtic.

lets have a rendition of into the valley!!!!

I am looking forward to tomorrow because we havent' been at home for a couple of weeks, so I'm missing it. The getting up knowing that you have a day out ahead of you, a big breakfast, football focus, which you watch, but really don't care too much about what they're jabbering on about, a quick watch of soccer saturday and shouting at phil thompson and paul merson cos they don't know what the hell they're going on about - starting to get ready and making sure i'm not wearing clothes that clash with the opposition, the journey to the game, driving through blackheath looking at all the charlton fans standing at the bus stops in their scarves, almost looking nervous (probably that the bus might turn up and they might actually make the match!) the walk down floyd road or charlton lane, flicking through my little season ticket book, to find the right match number, that still smells like new and getting through the turnstyle with a cheery "thank you" to the turnstyle people - none of whom I have ever made eye contact or know what they look like because i've been too eager to get into the ground and up to the concourse to spot people i know and wave to and then to get into my seat and see the grins of the people around me - some friends, some idiots, but familiar people never the less, same old jokes week in week out, knowing their personal favourite and worst players and laughing about the line up. a quick wave to my dad and uncle in the lower west to let them know that i've arrived and for them to prove each week that they know where I sit. A quick look out for my grandad in the lower west further up - in 5 years he's never been able to spot me and wave back, but bless him he still tries to find me. then the players are out, give weaver a little clap as he moves into position, a ripple of applause, the sitting down as the whistle goes............

    CAN'T WAIT!!!!

the car is full! (and I only have a small car!)
  • The last few games have seen a massive improvement from the team, tomorrow will be the final turning point for me, CAFC will boss the game from the start, I can see an early goal from Charlton, I just hope once that comes they keep going for more and not sit back in order to hold onto the elad like we have seen so many times.

I think tomorrow is going to be an amazing game, if I could afford the train home I'd be there in a flash.

That's a wonderfully evocative piece of writing, Suzi. It's made me really feel I can't wait for tomorrow, regardless of the final score.

I think Henry's on to something, too, when he points out that : "Even a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step." Now if we could only find the dosh to bring in that highly-rated foreign manager Confucius, our long march to the champion's league could start tomorrow !

ps : or perhaps it's just a quote from ZZ on how his recovery programme is going?
  • are you driving again tomorrow Miss Sausage?

what are your plans for afters?

Barts wants back in the club!
  • "Trust Me" I have always been known that we will go up via the Play Offs. Sadly, I won't be out to see it as my next Psychiatric Review isn't 'til next June.

    Keep The Faith.

  • Quality post, Suz!

I've just read Suzi's post ........ I'm sure she likes to see us win, totally made up if we do but, read her post again - it's all about the day out, the whole Valley experience, connecting with friends and family - and looking forward to it!

I've been going to matches for a long time now - but that same strange mix of anticipation and apprehension both at the same time, meeting mates and my Dad, and having a beer before .....and just, I don't know really, that feeling of just being home and feeling all things Charlton in my blood.

And that getting behind the team, urging them on, that emotional involvement of mentally kicking every ball myself, watching the pattern of play and watching out for what happens off the ball as well as following the action.

I also look out for the emotional responses of the players, the lows, highs and frustrations, their body language and how I think they get involved mentally.

I try to read the players, if you like - and can be scathing of the player who is not being honest.

I never boo - I believe that brings the whole energy of the place sinking downwards in self-defeating cycles - if you want to help the opposition, then boo - but know by doing so you're not actually supporting your team ...........

If we score, let alone win I cherish that elation - but for me it's that sense of occasion, that being part of it all at some level. Win or lose, it's a great day out.

Some people ssem to just go for the result - they can do that watching CeeFax at home. It's a lot cheaper!
But try seeing that it's more than win or lose, and if that's all you go for, then you're bound to be disappointed often!

Build that atmosphere, get behind the team even if it's mis-firing horribly. You may be surprised at the effect it has on the team - and you'll have a better day out than otherwise sitting passively in stony silence or booing your own side.

Be Proud to be an Addick!
  • I sense I might be one of the rare few who went to the last games and sat so proudly as my team took Birmingham apart in the first half and if lady luck had been with us would have been up 3-1 after 55 mins rather than 3-2 down. On what I have seen over the past two games i am full of optimism

BUT we are playing at home and that will be the problem. I will have been one of possibly 300 to have seen the last two games, the other 20 000 will know no difference to what they witnessed against Barnsley. That said I hope that we storm into a 2 goal lead early doors. BDL got it right we he said time for us to stand up and support our team absolutely essential tomorrow.

I want us to win big time tomorrow and hope that the players have the will and belief to do same, we as fans must have the same will and belief too. to go to the game with a passion to roar our team onto victory. As Oggy says they will respond and everyone will have had a great day out.

Hmmm I May just dig that one out!!!!!!

Just to piss off AFKA, Goonerhater, NSS and all the other wrist slashers!!!

    ;-)

    Keep smiling

  • what suzie said and isnt that from a clint eastwood movie? bdl?
  • It's from Kelly Heros Donald Sutherland
  • Think its a bit unfair to name and shame individuals for being positive, its what we all want.

suzi did a great post the other day even if most didn't agree I'd rather see a positive than a negative

I just think that people like me who are negative at the moment are being punished, believe me 0-0 Barnsley I sang as loud as the next man, 1-0 same, 2-0 I shut up but no booing but surely if we can't boo now whenever

I will be fully behind them tomorrow but if we are 2 down after 10 don't have a pop at the fans
  • Same as that, sang my heart out until 2-0, then I lost all energy, just sat there gutted for 80 mins
  • Guys, girls, fellow lunatics and wrist slashers. Whatever happens. Win, lose or draw we will still support our team at 5pm on Saturday night. Because we can't help ourselves.

As Henry says Live, Love, Laugh and be Happy.

(BTW - Dazzler, that's Oddball - as one person some eloquently said about me once - That's appropriate!)
  • I am one of those seemingly rare things.. a supporter. We could be in the Blue Square Premier League and would still be there singing Valley Floyd Road.

I love watching football but for me.. I support Charlton. I sing myself horse every time.
  • Awww, Suzi, that almost brought a tear to my eye!!!

I still get excited walking up the steps out into the stands. I love my half-time Mars bar, the only time I ever eat them. I love having a good shout/sing to get all the tension out after a week of commuting and work. I love the weird conversations that me and my brother have. I love the walk back to the car listening to everyone else (even if they are moaning - me and my brother just have another weird conversation about them!!!). I love when my nephew comes as half the time he doesn't even know what's going on in the match and is still enjoying himself. Win, Lose or Draw I still enjoy myself and I never ever let the result affect the rest of my weekend. I only get two days off a week and that time is too precious to be miserable about something you cannot change.

    C'MON YOU REDS!!!!!!!
