Kelly Youga - not your average player...

edited November 2008 in General Charlton
The modern footballer isn't best known for his love of literature, these days it's all about WAGS, cars and computer games. Now I know I am making wild generalisations here but this I know - Kelly Youga is one of a kind.

When was the last time you heard a player describing his love of books and comment on the content of his current read - about genocide in Rwanda?

Admittedly, the way a player spends his time off the pitch is not as crucial to a club as how he affects results whilst on it, but my god it's refreshing to hear a player come out with more than the usual cliches.

If you are wondering what the hell I am on about, check out Kelly Youga's website...

He is a top guy.

  • really he may be a top guy but he has been consistantly shit this season

sorry youga fans but it is true stop reading and start fecking playing
  • What about being named in league team of the week and scoring against Plymouth. That's not very s**t in my book!
  • wow 2 games so far whoppeeee fecking do what about the amount of mistakes he has made this season and falling asleep for most of the game

that is very shit in mine

i am glad he scored and got in the team of the week play like that for the rest of the season and i and many others will be won over but 2 performances after the way he has played at the back end of last season and the begining of this i would be well pissed off as a player
  • You're wrong.Steve Claridge had a great passion for books.
  • I just loved the comment "I don’t swap books with my team-mates. I haven’t seen a lot of players reading. Who knows, maybe they read at home?!?" - No Kelly most of them can't read,or only look at the pictures. Still put the book down while you are playing lad, it makes sense.
  • Perhaps he's reading 'how to play football', chapter 4: 'the art of defending'. Just wish he'd finish reading it........

Or maybe cos he reads in his first language of French which would limit it to Yassin, Buzz and Andy Gray.
  • Footballers who love literature....... ? You don't get many of those to the pound.

Kish was another avid reader, and Smertin too.
  • Darren Bent said his favourite book was Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell was is a good read.

defenders get in the team of the week precisely because they scored, the rest of their game is of minor conseqeunce.

Jerome Thomas said his favourite book was was The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

    Ba---boom.

See what i did there Leroy.
  • Getting back to the Youga thing.Reading on his website i see Kelly blames Charltons problems down to a lack of goals, which is partly correct. And because of this he feels HE is one of the men to get them.Totally incorrect.

Think this sheds some light on his erraticism during a game. The man is clearly as mental as his haircut.

Next book Kelly. How to keep clean sheets-a mothers guide to bed wetting.
  • Youga's been a bit erratic, if you don't mind me saying the bleedin' obvious.

But there's something very likeable about him ........ there's a certain naivity, enthusiasm, hunger to learn, an appreciation of life in general and how lucky he is to be a professional footballer.

He may be all over the shop at times - but this lad just loves to play football.

    Don't poison him.
  • i agree with oggy there
  • Yeh agreed Oggy. stop all the bitching bitches. worse than women...

  • I'd say he was more like a child, very excitable, enjoys it playing but loses concentration and interest if it's not going his way/after 20 minutes and has a tantrum
  • T i hate your attitude now off to bed without any....erm.... well....T ;oP

Yeah. And Alan Pardew and Iain Dowie just love managing football teams.

    Don't poison him.

How can we poison him? He doesn't have time to come on here.
He's always got his head buried in' war and peace'.

    ;-)
  • Kellys had an awful season but there's definitely something there to make you think that he can be become a bloody good full back/wing back/winger. During the dark days of last season he was our most exciting player and seemed to thrive on the applause, lets just hope he can recapture that form.
  • What I meant CB ...... is compare what we apparently see with a typical young Pro, far more interested in the size of his wallet or clubbing than putting his heart and soul into the game.

The 'don't poison him' bit was meant to say: try not to crucify him next time he (or any other young player) cocks up.

We've all seen Youga has the ability, strength and pace - but can we patient while he matures into a decent quality player? If he doesn't get the necessary time to do it at Charlton, he's bound to prove himself elsewhere.
  • Terrible performance from Youga today, hope the change of Management can change him.
  • I'd like to see him replaced by Basey. Just sent him a nice message on his website though.
  • do you know what i was going to bump this after the report from nss

Kelly stop reading go to bed early and wake up a footballer please for fuks sake

oh yeah and sort your barnet out.
