Brum tomorrow 500 sold...

edited November 2008 in General Charlton
... I know ("here we go again")... but it's p**s poor. (Just been down the ticket office this morning). An hour and a half away from Euston.

Total cost of train and match ticket = 25 quid (booked train in advance).

At least we can all stand together and hopefully give some good vocal support.

Anyone know if Mr. Bent is playing? I haven't despised such an opposing teammate in ages!!

  • I tried to go but the coaches were full.

Birmingham have poor support anyway, so expect alot of empty seats there.
  • This club really is on its last legs.....
  • Times is hard

    Not really.
  • not sure of the stats BUT just one away win this season and possibly two in the last twenty away from home. Goals scored in that time - 20 ? Not much of an incentive is there.
  • Unbeaten in 2 away games, goals scored 3.

You can make stats mean anything you like....... lol
  • No surprise in my view.

Tough times for many financially in the run up to Christmas and those family and older fans belittled by some as "flasks" are not going to be attracted by a trip to the "Millwall of the Midlands" to quote Wyn Grant.
  • FACTS

    last 20 away games :

    Won 3
    Lost 10
    Drawn 7
    Goals for 15
    Goals against 25
  • I'm not wasting my hardearned watching our lot until Pardew gets his arris into gear.

Large's stats above says it all

But we haven't played 20 away games this season.

You couldn't really include last season's results, because when I look at the current League table, it clearly doesn't.

Otherwise you might as well say we've only won 20 away matches in the last 100, letting in 85 goals or whatever
Or 125 out of the last 750.

    Stats, eh ? ;o)

He's got it in gear...it called reverse!
  • i think 500 is a good turnout
ffs we won the title at blackburn with 1100 when we were a decent side now we're tosh
i can remember going to birmingham away in the 80's with about 200-250 there

well, just on this year it's even worse reading :

    Won 1
    Lost 4
    Drawn 3
    For 5
    Against 9
  • 500 is very good these days
  • Don't think it's bad, a few more will make late decisions to go. My brother and a mate are two. Prob be 600. Rather 600 really up for it singing their hearts out 2,000 moaning or saying "This club really is on its last legs....." What bolox.
  • the manager maybe on his last legs with concerns to where he's taken 'his' team but THIS CLUB isn't in that bad a shape .... i hope!!

The club is on a downward slope and has been since a couple of seasons into Premiership life. Doesnt seem to be as many younger away following fans as there were a few years ago and the older ones are gradually declining meaning the away support will continue to slump downwards. Says a lot when we only take decent away support when there is free travel. Even then games like Everton away in the Premiership when the club offered coach travel at £10 a head we still took 350 or so to a crucial relegation game.

Things have only got worse to be fair, the odd weekend trips such as Blackpool gets everyone out but the support/enthusiasm etc will continue to die at this rate.

Enthusiasm for following Super Al's brave boys! That died ages ago mate!

The football always ruins a really good away trip.

Look at the amount of people that left well before the end at Blackpool last year.

ruining the home games at the moment too.

  • I know. But towards the end of Curbishley's reign it happened as well. Was just trying to get my point across to ChicagoAddick. The fact of the matter is a few years back there were plenty of younger groups of fans who went to all the away games. Nowadays theres a lot less and a lot of the away fans in the late twenties/early thirties have settled down/mortgages etc and there just is not the numbers replacing them. At the moment the home support is going downhill, the away support is pretty much dead and the club is in real financial difficulties selling to survive etc. Hence the reason I said that the club we all love so much is looking like its on its last legs.
  • was one of those games i wanted to do when the fixtures came out but can't afford the silly money on travel... know what you mean PH, even in our relegation season there were plenty of 14, 15, 16, 17 year olds there, eg. Wigan, have only done one away this season but from last season towards the end at places like Barnsley, i didn't see the same groups again.
  • You couldn't miss the teenagers at Forest or Cardiff.

As for the travel, it's only £10 for this game.
  • 500 at Birmingham is pretty normal for us, and considering how we're doing is not bad at all. We took about 1500 for that game on the last day before the play offs when we could have gone up automatically, but its never been a big turn-out otherwise.

Interesting points about the older fans dropping out of away travel, I've always had the feeling that we've got an older fanbase than many clubs, and since most clubs away support is mainly drawn from the younger element, maybe thats part of the problem.
  • I agree with you Palace Hater on the youngster issue. It did appear that we gained quite a lot of yoof towards then end of our stay in the Prem, but think sadly they were never that emotionally attached to the club like some of us, and perhaps those that had Dads, Uncles and Grandads indoctrinating those into it.

Don't think we are alone in this issue, but agree that we do appear to have an older fanbase - think CL is a good barometer of that.
  • Anyone know if tickets are available on the day tomorrow?

    yes

Yes you know, or yes they are !?!?
  • About one in five of our season-ticket holders are U18, although I appreciate that doesn't necessarily cover what people mean by youth.

That goes up to one in four for match ticket sales. As you'd expect, that shot up for Barnsley. The actual percentage of kids will be higher because we sell to junior groups that aren't in that number, even though they pay the same price, and on occasion we also do comps to schools, etc.

By comparison over 60s account for about the same proportion of season tickets, but only about half as many match sales.

You wouldn't expect the U15s to turn out away unless accompanied by parents, but 500 for Birmingham is pretty average.
  • I'm confused
