[quote][cite]Posted By: Dazzler21[/cite]pity.... really wanted him to prove himself - now he will against us (if we are still in the same league)[/quote]
He's had over three bloody years to prove himself!!!!
Underachiever in my eyes who never really put enough effort in.
DARREN Ambrose is an Ipswich Town player again today after completing his loan move to Ipswich Town from Charlton.
The 24-year-old, who left Portman Road for Newcastle United in March 2003, returns to his boyhood club on an initial two-month loan spell, with a view to a permanent move in January.
Charlton are keen to cash in now on a player who will be out of contract next summer and are understood to be asking for a fee of around £250,000.
Town are not committed to taking Ambrose full-time in the new year, although they will have first refusal.
Blues boss Jim Magilton has been looking to secure his former team-mate for the best part of a year but the Addicks would not consider letting him leave until now.
Magilton said: “I have played with Darren and know what qualities he has and we are delighted to have added him to our squad.”
Ambrose needed surgery on a hip problem during the summer and missed the early part of the season as he recovered.
After impressing against the Blues in Charlton's 2-1 win at the beginning of October, the last time Town lost, Ambrose said he was flattered by Magilton's interest and complimentary comments and would welcome a return to Ipswich.
Essex-born Ambrose graduated through the Blues academy system after originally joining Town's school of excellence as an 11-year-old.
He made his debut as a substitute in a Premier League clash against Arsenal at Highbury in April 2002 and netted his first goal on his full debut the following season against Walsall in the Championship.
Relegation for Town meant financial hardship and Ambrose was sold for a cut-price £1m to Sir Bobby Robson's Newcastle United who played him 25 times in his first season on Tyneside.
But the arrival of Graeme Souness saw him being used sparingly and he joined the Addicks for around £1.5m in July 2005.
Capped at all age groups up to England Under-21, Ambrose netted twice at that level in 10 appearances.
The 6ft two-footed player can be used on either flank and Town boss Magilton has praised his versatility.
Ambrose is likely to go straight into the Town squad that play bottom-of-the-Championship side Doncaster on Saturday.
Magilton will decide this week whether to stick with the same side that has recorded wins over Plymouth, QPR and Blackpool, or use Ambrose on the left in place of Alan Quinn. He could even take the beleaguered David Norris out of the firing line and use the winger wide right.
[cite]Posted By: Friend Or Defoe[/cite]Not good in my opinion. No doubt Pardew will replace him with a loan player after claiming he wasn't going to get many loanees this season.
Yep.
Or failing that we'll have Lloyd "I don't like to cross or do anything remotely productive" Sam. At least Ambrose can score every now and then.
Shame he was never really played in his most effective position of just behind the strikers.
Given the players we have (2 attack minded full backs, no decent wingers) I aways thought that a midfield diamond would have been an ideal formation for us.
Forget that he is still young too, if has a good few seasons with Ipswich could well get snapped up by a prem team if ipswich dont make it themselfs that is.
[cite]Posted By: Weegie Addick[/cite]England U21 (ten caps). Age 24. Scores and creates goals, but doesn't get stuck in. From £1.5M when we signed him to do-well-to-get £250K now.
No wonder we are in the financial do-doo.
I don't think he cost £1.5 million. As i recall the fee wasn't disclosed but was thought to be about £900k.
Still a big loss on a 24 year old whose wages may not be as high as people think because wise old Curbs would have had a relegation clause in there. Unlike the jokers (Sir Les Reed excepted) who succeeded him!

You can hardly blame the club for the Bosman rule!
£900k actually Weegie, and he's worth only £250k after 4 years because he's out of contract soon, when he would go free.
Don't forget the value of players' contracts are amortized, so unless it's a sellers market to the highest bidder, then players in final year of contract invariably go for the remaining pro-rata of their existing full contract value.

But I can lament the fact that we invested in a promising talent and have failed to get a return...
I'm not blaming the club specifically - it just sums up what has happened in the past few years. So much expectation has turned into disappointment, and Ambrose personifies that.
Another one of those in between players he was never likely to control a game but like so many creative players we never really worked out how to use him - we rarely gave him the platform to play. Ironically the first time this season we include a player to create the platform - Semedo - we let Ambrose go.
I understand the economic necessities and frustration of others at some of his performances but he did carry a groin injury for most of him time with us.
For me given the right structure to play in he was a player I felt could make a difference - sadly there are not too many of those around.
Hey, Weegie ..... I thought you would have posted something like, ".....any decent manager would have had Ambrose playing to his full potential. It's all the fault of the management. I blame Pards."

I don't feel like getting handbagged by certain peeps on here today, Ogs. BDV came close enough...!

Quite understand, Weegie ....... although I was trying to be light hearted, tongue in cheek by putting words into your mouth.
Just a bit of fun.
A player that showed a lot of potential when he first signed for us, but after three years has never really been able to show the quality needed on a consistent basis. When he's in the mood he's brilliant but when he's not (most of the time) he doesn't get stuck in enough and for a winger doesn't have a good enough final ball and enough to go passed the full back time after time! I can't see us getting much for him in January, maybe Pardew has a swap lined up in return??
I have no problem with him not getting 'stuck in', because that is not his game. What i do expect though is for him to try and have a creative influence on a game, and that sadly has just not happened enough for my liking.
There is little i dislike about his play, but he appears at times to be at most an 80 per cent-er, and we need more than that.
[cite]Posted By: Weegie Addick[/cite]I didn't mean you, Ogs - sorry if it came over that way.
I meant I couldn't possibly say stuff like that without getting handbagged by some others on here ;-)
i mean how dare you continue to criticize (spelling) the same manager that you have said is w**k for a long time....... it's all your fault(you must have cast an evil spell on him) that your view turned out to be right and the team is crap now but hey ho lets give him more time things can only get better

Yes, I am the wicked witch of the North ;-)
And things are about as likely to get better as the last time 10,000 of us thought that :-(

Bobby Robson never got that much out of him at Newcastle - admittedly he was quite young. Curbs never really got the best out of him, neither did Dowie/Reed and now Pards. Maybe, just maybe he is the problem? Skillful player but problems of motivation/determination?

But managers don't normally build teams around young players.
