Should I just sit there to the end regardless of how it's going? Should there be a set of rules about how forum members should act? or can I just be myself, make my own decisions on what i choose to do at games?
I personally know at least half a dozen supporters who did not remain inside the Valley for the second half.
Between them they probably have a good few thousand games, the fair share in god awful places at god awful times when most, likely yourself included, did not wish to bother. They are about as "real" as it gets.
[cite]Posted By: Mortimerician[/cite] To the best of my knowledge the fans forum reps were specifically chosen from season ticket fans, as reps of supporters in the ground..
The 6 members of the fans forum applied to be part of the fans forum via the application process advertised in the programme and on the website. It was deemed after an initial meeting with all applicants when it was worked out that there was a good spread of ages and locations of seats within the stadium, that all applicants would sit on the fans forum for a probationary period whilst the details of the forum were ironed out and the ongoing process reviewed.
The fans were not 'specifically chosen from season ticket fans' by the club. they applied.

I have to agree with you here mate. Why is not sitting through another 45mins or so of shite seen as you being disloyal etc? If its making you so unhappy then theres no problem IMO. I dont think it reflects either way myself. I didnt bother going....What does that make me?
Rothko leaving at half time was probably a good representation of a number of fans anyway.
Fair play for putting yourself up for the fans forum. Unfortunatley, the nature of message boards you'll always get people scruitinising every act and looking at ways to prove you are a failure / knock you down / prove that you are not a true representative. Hope you've a thick skin!!
I kind of know of, through going to Charlton over the last 20 years and by sight half of the people on the forum and believe they're probably a fair representative.
Like I say there will always be a minority of people willing you to fail... which will be excentuated (spelling?) on message boards like this.
Fair play that you keep coming on here... same goes for the old supporters director.
In the early 1980s, I was employed as a theatre critic and had to review a musical about Laurel & Hardy at the Mermaid. It was the worst thing I'd ever seen - far less entertaining than even the first half of Charlton v Barnsley.
Im my review I admitted it was so bad that I didn't go back for the second act.
All hell broke lose - furious letters to the paper from readers, complaints to the editor from the production's director, a denouncement in another magazine called Theatre Now that I wasn't a fit person to be a theatre critic. . .
I must have been very close to getting sacked. But I refused to apologise. It was so bad that I had seen all I needed to tell people 'save your money , it's a stinker, don't go anywhere near it cos it's an insult to the memory of Stan and Ollie'.
Don't know why I'm telling you all this, other than to say 'stand your ground, Rothko, and vacate your seat if that's what your heart is telling you...'

I disagree unfortunately. I certainly wouldn't want to be one and fair play to all who put themselves forward but being a representative comes with a certain amount of responsibility surely? The role is there to reflect the views of a cross section of supporters. How can you do that to the best of your abilities if you're not there for half the time? Supposing there had been an incident that the club wanted the views of the fans representative on during the second half? Fair enough if you can't make the game at all but I'm sure the club didn't expect the Forum members to walk out at half time - just the reverse I'd say.
Personally i think you should get out there with a fork and help with the pitch, wash the kit, sweep the terraces, clean the boots, do the PA and the Valley Gold draw... and lead the stewards' health and safety chat... good job i've not got any clout
You should do what you think is the right thing by the fans. That is what you are there for. Leaving early Saturday is no shame. I did it and I know lots of others who did. I went because the football was dreadful, because I could see we had no hope nor clue and also because like you I don't want to spend my free time booing or hearing others boo. Not that I disagree with their sentiments but it is just not for me. Being on a forum or fans rep has some strings attached and some obligations, but the main one is that you stay yourself and also take into account the views of the fans who you might not agree with. Good luck, not something I would want to do, although if it was an online vote I might be in with a chance as I have been known to have an alias or 20.
[cite]Posted By: Rothko[/cite]Does that mean I should be at the Valley from 11am on a match day cause something might happen? or stay till the last person leaves Crossbars?
Not at all, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a representative of the supporters to be there for the whole game. Would you be happy admiting that you'd left at half time in the event that there'd been a stewarding incident, for example, that you could have given an opinion on if required?
I'm not having a dig at you personally, all I'm saying is that with the role comes a degree of commitment and responsibility, regardless of how much you really don't want to be there.
I disagree Les - Does this mean you expect Rothko (& the others) to attend every away game as well?
The fans forum for me should have representatives who are real fans who do things that real fans do not people that think "oh I'm a fans forum member, I should do this even though I do not want to". In any case if he doesn't do the job people want he'll get booted off after 6 months I would hope.

Nope I don't and said so in my previous comment. Anyway, we'll have to agree to dissagree on this one as in the interests of peace and harmony admin are sinking us...

Garbage argument Mortimerician.

I can't even bear to type the words mate, i'd get a lifetime ban off AFKA
Fans sniping at each other hardly helps - we need to discuss this like grown ups.
The argument probably is "isn't it better to leave rather than stay and boo"?
Discuss.
