++++++++++The Stick With Pards Camp++++++++++++++

edited November 2008 in General Charlton
In order for fairness, and for an indication of where realistically this split is, could all those who still support Pardew to remain our manager add there reasons why in this thread.

Please don't post sarcasm, or debate, this is another clean thread similar to the Out on for those supporting to add their view.

  • We cant afford anyone else?
How long does it take to transform a team?
Possibly longer than we have given him.
    Nice bloke.
He has the possibility to turn it around next season.
The alternatives are too awful to consider. even Maradonna's gone

I'll support him for as long as he's boss just like reed!
  • My support for Pardew is only for one match at a time.

I'll support the club ..... and on a matchday, I won't choose to undermine the team or Pardew, because I really can't see what that achieves.

But barring a miracle turn round, he is on borrowed time. Maybe he knows it too.
  • Well without fear or trepidation I shall set my feet firmly in this camp.

Anything is possible, and hopefully will be
  • This misses the point for me, it is not about being pro the manager but pro the board.
Pardew has been a failure thus far but the board have my support whether they retain his services or not.

  • i support charlton.
  • thats the issue salad

the majority on here are pro board

it is the manager in question not them why is that so hard for people to understand
  • In my limited view Pards position is untenable, but the board have all the facts and are true fans who have also put their hands deep into their own pockets. I trust them to act in what they consider to be in the best interests of the club and have no doubt that they are fully aware that Pardew has failed, but if I back them then I must back their ongoing choice of manager.

I am against Pardew being sacked. I think that when you're going through tough times you need to show faith in the manager.

I appreciate that it's very difficult to feel that way when you're going to see the rubbish that they're playing.

My advice to you all would be to give somes games a miss, do something else on the Saturday afternoon for a few games.

Don't force the club to make a decision we may later regret.

As an overseas fan who recently came to a couple of games, I think that when you go to the games you get caught up in it all and begin to lose sight of what's really important. You get angry and demand action. We need to keep a clear head. If Pardew goes, can we be 100% sure that his replacement will be better? If he stays are you sure that it would really be such a catastrophe? I think that he can still sort it out, despite the rubbish I saw.

Never been a great believer of getting rid of managers. I think the media puts too much importance on them and fans swallow up the hype.
A manager is only as good as his players, and the players ( in most cases) are only as good as the amount of money that is spent on them, It's as simple as that.

Yes Pardew has got these players in, but when you study his signings, the money that was spent with the numbers brought in, ultimately they were all gambles. Some pay off, most don't. Unfortunately for us the latter has applied. Pardew also suffered the loss of players he was never likely to replace.

Game by game it’s getting harder to defend him , but then the likes of me have been defending Curbs since 2004, so even if we were in a play off spot I guarantee he would have his critics. People would find fault. As they did with Curbs, then Dowie, then Reed, now Pardew.

At the moment we would only be able to promote a manager from within, the likes of Kinsella, Gritt, Powell, and I really don't think they would improve things. If it didn't work out the criticism would soon be bundled on one of them. Turning on our own could prove an all time low for the club.

Ultimately we are a reflection of our boards clout. They know we need more, as they put the club up for sale after relegation? Ideally a takeover would've been perfect in 2004 because the team has been on a gradual decline since then…I’m not saying this with hindsight.

I say stick with Pardew, for a little longer anyway, it’s his mess and he must have some pride left to put it right. Other than that I can’t think of anybody else for the job. I don’t even think Fergie could sort out the mess were in at the moment, because I don’t think all our problems have simply been managerial, and they haven’t been for some time.
  • not only that if you sell the majority of your best players in the summer is your team really going to have the best chance of survival let alone play offs
  • Then again if you bring in players like Gray who have failed to deliver and get rid of your top scorer who so far goes on to bang in goals for his new team and are top of the league, you will find it difficult
  • Firmly in this camp, He inherited a totall TOTAL mess, then had to sell the only good players we had left and totally rebuild the squad. twice hes lost good centre backs on the eve of the season starting too. I just find it so disapointing that we cant be refreshing and stick by our gaffer. The guy is truly hurting after every defeat, and truly exited when we win, although everyone says this is spin! well you all moaned about curbs lack of passion, you get some with pards and still moan! for goodness sake lets back him.
  • With most of the people on this site on this one, especially Clive.
As stated before, we SHOULD back him,not slate (or Boo) him,
    WE ARE CHARLTON.

How many people were telling us Iwelumo was useless, on these forums?. He was never that. We never played to his strengths, and we don't with Gray.
These players thrive on good service, and we've been lacking in that department for ages, not just now.
Pardew was instructed to sell players. He can only sell players other clubs want. With our squad that doesn't give him a lot of choice.

I doubt that selling big Chris was Pardews decision in the same way that I doubt that selling Reid was. You can't blame Pardew for that imo.

I agree with Superclive. Until I'm covinced that he has totally lost the players, I'll back him to turn it around.
  • Interesting to hear some Watford fans on the Radio this morning saying it's not just results but it's the Manger's Signings that ultimately the Manger is judged on which is a fair shout. So based on that of Pardews 30 odd Permanent/Loan signings on the Success side I'll put forward :-
Bougherra, Hudson, Bailey , Varney, Big Chris, Semedo...personally I think I have been a bit generous there the rest would all come into the un-proven/failure category I would say.
  • by bringing in Gray that gave him 2 big men upfront he was never going to play them together, he then had to choose what one to go imo he chose the wrong one, for the record i never slated big chris i was sorry to see him go.

it is not only results that managers live and die by it is their signings and his have been extreemly poor

You are blaming Pardew for something that wasn't down to him.

A bid came in for big Chris and we needed the money. If wolves had made a bid for Gray instead then no doubt it would have been Gray that would have been sold.

Whether we actually needed Gray in the first place is another matter.
  • How do we know it wasnt down to him?

If he hadnt signed Gray then Chris would not have gone.

We didnt need Gray we didnt need Cook,Sinclair,Halford, a long line of errors that he is responsible for.
  • Against Reading I have never# seen Charlton players run to their manager like they did to Pards
Unrestrained joy and a definite bond between manager and players.
    It wasnt that long ago
Stick with him, it'll come good.

    #(Maybe the Lennie survival games)
  • Very undecided at the moment. The team isn't the Charlton I love anymore but would Pardew leaving put us in much more of a better position? We can't afford to sack him and who is good enough to replace him? I am concerned though how the team chops and changes week in week out.

I liked Big Chris but i think we didn't necessarily keep the wrong one, more the fact that Chris is now at a club where he gets superb service off the midfield, from the likes of Kightly and Jarvis.
  • big chris was our best striker last season dude are you forgetting this? and that's even including being dropped for gray
  • Razil

at last someone who remembers the scenerio surrounding Gray and big Chris.

Big chris also played a full season with 2 or 3 small but niggling injuries and didnt start as many games as he should of last year yet we are sticking with 2 of the worse strikers i have seen at the club

i went on record last year stating that we will miss him and that i had great concerns for our strikers this season as they are not good enough.

Maybe the best comment i have seen yet on this website.
