Have to totally agree with AFKA's original point, he has lost 90% of the fans and should walk. However, he is not going to and the club are not going to sack him (yet!).
This is the season where we should be seeing a coherent squad who know what they are doing but what we are seeing is an absolute shambles. The first year and a half he was here he could point to mitagating circumstances (inherited crap & disinterested squad / had to totally rebuild team) but now the buck has to stop firmly with him. This is the time he asked to be judged and I'm afraid the judgement seems to be almost unanimous accross the whole spectrum of the support.
As it stands he has two tough away games to save his job. If he gets four points from those (unlikely I know!) then he buys himself another two games to turn it around. Anything less and his position is untenable by the next home game as the level of vitriol aimed at him will force him or the club to act.
[cite]Posted By: AFKABartram[/cite]I'm as loyal as they come Chirpy, have always got 100% behind everyone playing and managing Charlton, and have always tried to encourage unity as much as i can. It breaks my heart to turn on a Charlton manager as i've never done that before, i couldn't even bring myself to do that to poor old Les.
If i have finally turned, then there really can't be many left who haven't.
But this season has to be rescued while it still can be. Christ, it sounds ridiculous but with a run the play offs are still very much in play.
But what we have at the moment is a team sinking faster than a political thread on here. It has nothing, it is a shell of a team. It has no heart, no backbone, no creativity and no goals. Its as much relegation material as Derby was in the Prem last year. It is his team, he has put this together, and he still has not a clue on how to set it out correctly to win games in this division.
We simply cannot sit back and let it happen.
This pretty much echoes how i feel. I've never been one of the Pardew out brigade and even had a row with a couple of blokes who sitnear me earlier on this season as they were constantly moaning, not getting behind the team and wanting him gone. Sadly though i have to admit i agree wtih them, Pardew will not turn this round and he has to go. We haven't got bad players, in fact a lot of our players are good players at this level. The likes of Weaver, Hudson, Bailey, ZZ, Ambrose, Gray, Varney, Bouazza would get into a lot of teams in this league, and when you add in the youth of Shelvey, Basey, Wright we have the makings of a good side. So when a team with good players is performing so badly (like Spurs were), you have to look at the manager. We need to change it now and give the new manager time to assess what he has so he can prepare for the transfer window.
[cite]Posted By: PassItToLeaburn[/cite]Great point Nug. Josh Wright is a young player being thrown into a really sh!tty scenario - let's not destroy the kid's confidence before he's been given a chance....
I really think he looks a bright prospect, just was amazed at the booing of a couple of stray passes, at least he kept looking for the ball. Crowd frustration I suppose, I usually am quite calm watching but I was disgusted with the whole thing really. I am envious of average teams playing as a "TEAM" I can't remember the last time that truly happened with us. I still think, maybe through rose tinted glasses, that we have a group of good players, Gray hasn't suddenly become crap in Championship has he, it has to be tactics/motivation. I actually felt sorry for our strikers, up against 3 great big lumps and all we kept doing was launching missiles at them. Absolutely discgraceful. And then when Sam or Wright actually got the ball on the floor absolutely no movement from anyone kept sending it back, plain old lack of tactics. Corners and free-kicks don't get me started
Gray didn`t have either the pace or strength to worry Moore yesterday and yet Pardew waited and waited before introducing Dickson into the fray which might have changed things.
He has completely lost the plot - irrespective of the settlement he needs to go NOW! It will be up to the board to choose how he goes as highlighted earlier in the thread. At the end of the day they need to find the readies and consider how their investment will dwindle even further if we drop again
Is there any hance of luring Curbs back as an interim until the end of the season perhaps with an offer of a load of shares to help rescue al of the work that he (and Varney and Murray) put in to build the club. Or perhaps do what Boro did with Bryan Robson when they brought in Venables to steady the ship...
I like the analogy to Spurs and I think that most feel that any change will be better than this rudderless drifting. I don't care who it is, all I know is that we need a shift in gear / direction to rescue this and yes, the play-offs are still possible given the talent at the clb.
Personally, I still go when I can but I am in no rush to make the kick-off and left early yesterday for about only the second time in my life!
Well we have all voiced our considered opinions, its now up to the board. He wont walk, but I have to say we need to make a completely clean sweep of it and Parkinson is just as much to blame. Time to have the courage of your convictions board members, the cost of relegation will far outweigh whatever it costs to say goodbye to Pardew. I shudder to think what our crowds would be now if it was pay on the day...........
I agree with AFKA and nigel w. I always support the manager and am more than fair, but his position is now untenable. He built that team and he is utterly clueless as to who he should play. Of course it doesn't matter who he picks or what formation, because none of them want to play for him. We can all guess why.
Possibly because they don't know from one game to the next whether they'll be playing or not. Possibly, because they need more encouragement and to be given confidence by Pardew. Possibly because he is smug and arrogant. Probably all 3.
Anyway I would have thought the board need to meet to discuss the situation after calming down. I would presume this would be on Monday and would be surprised if he's not sacked tomorrow.
I have to say I was ecstatic when he was appointed and do not blame the board for his failure.
We must get in an experienced man as a replacement I believe all this talk of Kinsella, Peacock etc is nonsense.Althought they can take charge in the interim.
There are a load of good manager's out there not currently working, although I have to admit that I haven't been bothered to sit down and list them.
Sam Allardyce is the obvious choice or Curbs but who knows?
Anyway Messrs Chapple, Murray et all please sack him now. Championship I can live with League 1 and I will be in despair.
I will of course remain a S/T holder regardless, as I have been for 35 years.
Charlton Athletic FC is a business just like most of us work in. Most of us have no idea what is going on. Is it a dressing room problem of co-workers not being able to work together? Is it the manager? Is it something we don't know about? None/not many of us know.
The squad on paper looks as though it should survive, if nothing else, in the Championship. But, maybe there is more to it. We don't know; We are apt to forget these are just co-workers not functioning. It happens in companies all of the time. The effect in football is just quicker.
Pardew out? Maybe. But, something is clearly wrong.

best post I've read today and I agree with it totally.
[cite]Posted By: bald1[/cite]at the end of the day we cant sack pardew because of money and how can we put another manager in because of money so we are stuck at the moment, lets just admit we are shit and going down ,just deal with it,started watching cafc 35 years ago and we are just going a full circle,at the end proper cafc fans will still be there, come on you reds!!!
if we are shit and going down I'd rather do it fighting than with a whimper.
as Queensland Addick said you would have expected us to come out all guns balzing second half but we didn't. I took an Aussie relative along to her first game of football yesterday and at half time I said to her that I expected us to come out, get stuck into them, really give it a go and if we could get an early goal back it might make things interesting. Now, I didn't expect that to really happen and I wasn't disappointed there but that is waht should have happened. That it didn't is down to Pardew.

Nothing sinks faster than a political thread on here but other than that agree with Mr Bartram : - )
It was good to hearing the, sadly justifiably, "we want Pardew out" chants followed by "Charlton till we die" and "VFR" etc. Whatever happens we are still Charlton. It is easy to follow a team in good times, the real test is now.
