I do NOT want Kinsella as manager.....

edited November 2008 in General Charlton
....because he is one of my heroes.

He has no managerial experience, and is part of our current coaching team that is underperforming.

When times are bad, Kinsella is one of those i always look back on with pride and warmth.

It would absolutely break my heart if he was made our manager and it didn't go well, and people turned on him (which they would, believe me). Anyone shouting **** off Kinsella etc like they are now with Pardew would lead to me being in a row every game.

The playing aspect of our squad is in dire need of completely fresh impetus. It needs a new broom, not a reshuffle.

  • I agree smudge whole heartedly my concern is if someone new comes in with no Charlton Background then they may not be given time to sort out this rot

how was the naked protest bet the weather didnt aid your size if you get my drift?

The fact that there may not be much better on offer than Pardew anyway is why I'm against sacking him (although I see why people want this to happen).

Calling for Kinsella is pure stupidity in my book.

To be honest, the best candidate is Curbishley. I was pleased to see him go but I admit that I was wrong. Who else could do the job that will need to be done better then him? Allardyce perhaps, but at least with Curbs we'd know what we're getting and we know that we'd stay up (at least).
  • Sam would be my choice because he could come (please) without any of the baggage that Curbs would have. Don`t forget Sam is no stranger to this neck of the woods. He played for Millwall.
  • i think it is a perfect job for him, We need someone like him
  • Yep, not him, but we need anybody but Pards, I have finally had enough!

Sam never played for Millwall. He came through our youth team.
  • I stand corrected. Must have imagined it.
  • Wiki says he played for Millwall 63 times !

  • Yes, love Kinsella, but not the right move for us or him. Its going to take an experienced man to turn this round.

Don't think so. He was playing for us again today wasn't he?

Looking up the thread I see that you're talking about Allardyce. Since when have you been on first name terms?
  • LOL Jimmy i was wondering why i had never heard of Sam Allardyce playing for us
  • So the best available managers are either a West Ham fan or an ex-Millwall player.

At least the former played for Charlton - oh, and he got us promoted before.

He also wanted to leave, why would he want to come back now?
  • I think people need to get used to the fact that Pardew is going nowhere for the forseeable future.
  • do you know what mart i am afraid you are right there i cant see him going and i dont think we will move quick enough to get someone in

He wanted to leave to try to better himself - and failed
Now he doesn't have a job and he must believe that he can make us at least a little better than we are at the moment.
Then he can try to move on to better things again -we can help him out as much as he can help us out.
And besides, don't you think he'll be hurting a little seeing us in the bottom three? He made us who we were and won't like seeing that undone. He could straighten us out short-term and leave us in a healthier position for a new man.

Maybe we should let him stay but insist on Curbs coming to help him out - rather like when Venables helped out Bryan Robson at Boro.
  • Gawd knows who could/would take the job if Pards was sacked

  • Would be a lot of interest imho
  • `look what a new mgr has done for spurs 2 wins and a draw 1st bolton then liverpool and a draw at the goonershite

same team same players new outlook

Who from? people out of jobs?

We couldn't do what Spurs have done and get a decent established manager, so we're in the pool of the failed and inexperienced.

Dangerous place to look for a manager
  • or hard done by and hungry managers rothko

    Billy Davies

    big Sam

Curbs (no i dont want him back being devil advocate here)
  • Maybe Rothers but I think we might be surprised by who might be willing to take the job.
  • Agree that kinsella would almost certainly be the wrong choice if pardew goes (which i doubted was likely to happen until todays game). maybe big sam would do it, but to be honest i think we couldn't afford him. My view would be to try and poach johnson from bristol city, or take a punt with an approach to fergie jnr. as to be honest, regardless of our current state anywhere must be better place than peterborough.
  • both of them would cost more than sam as you will have to pay for their services and then their wages

The time is not right for Kins to take sole charge as he is too inexperienced.

I suspect also that realistically we cannot afford to get rid of Pardew for financial reasons even if there is an argument in doing it for footballing reasons.

However IF we did get rid of Pardew then we could do worse than appoint Gritty manager (if he is willing) with Kins as number two. Les Reed was an excellent coach but not a manager. That is why that particular experiment failed.

Gritty though is a proven manager. Curbs had the utmost regard for his abilities when they were joint managers but, more importantly, Gritty brought Brighton back from the Conference precipice when they were marooned 10 points or more at the bottom of the 4th tier. He has thus shown that he can manage in adversity. Furthermore as Academy Director he has worked with the youngsters we will need to rely on now that Pardew has spunked the parachute money.

Keith Peacock is another option but would he want it at 63?

Curbishley would be the answer in an ideal world in my view but I realise that saying something nice about Curbs breaches forum rules.
  • The more observant of you might have seen how strapped for cash the club are, by the staff shortages around the ground. We haven't got money to bring in new coaches/players and if we do find some cash it would probably worry me more than anything else as we would be spending money we simply haven't got. Maybe we should have a whip round!
  • with johnson you may have a point but i would doubt that would be the case with junior.
