i want curbs back

edited November 2008 in General Charlton
I know a lot of you won't say it as you wanted him to go. But I would bite his hand off if he offered to come back. He was Mr Charlton for so many years and took us from where we are now to the top half of the prem. Do you think zabeel would of knocked is back if we were boring mid table of the prem Charlton rather than heading to third tier like now? Get him back now and be patient. When we end up 15th in prem then appreciate that. Or remember times like now or 20 years ago and where we were. WE WANT CURBS BACK.

  • He ain`t coming........
  • Been listening to Radio London Tom Watt for last hour, been 3 callers saying exactly the same, 2 of whom stated they had wanted him to go in the first place, but now changed their minds.
  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

only if he does it for "love of my real roots, always been Charlton me" and we dont pay him.
  • I'd take him back in a heart beat
  • *NEVER*.GO.BACK
  • its like groundhog day on here!
  • I'd take just anybody (except Dowie) right now.

    What about that Jonathan Ross?

He's not doing anything for the next three months.

And at least the post-match interviews would be entertaining...
  • for me it needs to be Kinsella and Powell with Peacock ( before you shoot me down heres why) it may be the only 3 appointments that will be allowed time to TRY to turn it around .

I would like it to be big sam as i would shit my pants if i was a player who played like that today and he was waiting for me in the changing room
  • Don`t get me wrong, I loved Kins but as a player. Huge mistake to appoint him in our situation. Must go for a proven motivator.

  • i agree SHG thats why i said it will only pacify some of the fans

for me it has to be big Sam
  • No to curbs.
    Peacock with Kins
  • Whats leads you to suspect that this untried combo will work ?
  • I think the Peacock call has merit he watched from 1st hand what curbs did and could maybe aid Kins but for me the timing is all wrong

Exactly. Could be another Les Reed type mistake. You need to get the person who you are as sure as possible will do the job. There are only two that I would feel confident in:

    1. Curbishley (I admit I was wrong wanting him to go)
    2. Allardyce

    I want Lennie Lawrence back...

Only joking really, but he was pretty good in a relegation scrap back there for a few seasons in the late 80s. The papers used to call him 'Houdini'...

and a relegation scrap is what we are in now, to be sure.

can't see us getting a sausage from the next two away games and if Forest and Rovers pick up a few points we could be just a couple of points off rock bottom by the time we next reconvence in SE7 to hymn praises to our glorious team...and that's a tough one against high-flying Blades , followed swiftly by another difficult one away to QPR.

the future is not bright right now and I can't see round any of those corners Pardew endlessly bangs on about turning whenever we manage to scrape a point somewhere...

unless of course he goes. now that would be turning a corner, but I fear it's not the one he means...
  • Would take Curbs back now, would have said no at the start of the season.

Still for me Billy Davies is the guy I want the most
  • Billy feckin Davies

What are you on about man? Curbs knows the club and would be perfect to turn things around quickly even if it were just until the end of the season
  • I'd have Curbs back but he wont come. I'm nor sure about Davies, he seems to have disappeared of the scene.

  • I wish people would not excercise this notion of Curbs coming back.

    Exactly.
No chance. We don't want him and he doesn't want us. When will people understand it was never a love affair like Keegan/Newcastle or Big Lawrie at Soton etc.
He did a professional job albeit for longer than most these days. He has no personal feelings for any club apart from WHU.
It would be a backward step for the club and more importantly for him. He deserves a crack at a bigger club, he has earned that right.
  • Don't think Curbs would be interested and as for Big Sam his army of helpers would cost a fortune, however his style of footy is perfect for moving up this league. I hated watching Bolton in the prem but they got the job done.
  • The board should have been better prepared for the departure of Curbs and it should have happened way way before that Blackburn game in April 2006 rather that get him to decide for himself and elave us with a threadbare squad. It's like exhuming a corpse............... If anyone is to blame it is them not Curbs. Dowa*k, Reed or Pardew. It is THEM who employs the person who runs the team.

Who else could we have got ffs? Taylor? Davies? Don't make me laugh.

i remember Xmas Eve 2006 how I punched the air thwn he was appointed. How things change nearly 2 years later. How fickle are we?!

It really has feck all to do with us and whatever decison the board makes we have to put up with it however disastrous it is. End of.

If it bothered me that much, I would take the time to find another pasttime.
  • Pardew is useless though and the board did want to appoint Davies apparently. We could have Dowie back.

Curbs has managed his dream club and it is not going to happen again. SO given Curbs has managed WHUFC and is not likely to get a straight into the Prem job??

    Who knows?
  • I would love to see Curbs come back, even if only as a caretaker to steady the ship. I also wanted him out at the time.
However I saw him interviewed as a studio guest last week on Sentanta.
He said the result he always looks out for is Wet Span. He felt he spent too long at Charlton, too long for him and too long for us.
He didn't talk about us with any affection although he did say that his most memorable match as a manager was the play off final.
I got the impression that he wouldn't be interested in ever coming back.
However football is a funny old game.
  • it doesnt take a rocket scientist to work out that things went wrong with Curbs leaving. we replace a legend with a clown, then give the job to someone who was out of their depth and finally in comes Pards.

whats sad is that Curbs was never shown appreciation by the fans. Pards failed to keep us up, couldnt get us back up and could now take us down. why people ever thought he was "SUPER" is beyond me.

would love to have Curbs back. Big Sam would be great too. would get some tough players in who can compete in this league. but cant see him coming here.I think its to early for Kins - would hate to see the fans turn on him if it didnt work out.
  • I really don't mind either way.....Pardew, despite having my support, has now blown it good and proper. The way the team are playing is entirely down to the manager. Case in point is 'appy 'arry at the Spuds. Before he took charge they were a team in free fall and they couldn't find a win from anywhere. He's come in and with the same players that couldn't score in a brothel under Ramos, he's got them playing 110% better. We do have the players for this league, we can play, I'm sure of it..............so the blame lies firmly at Pardew's door. I'm not sure the board are going to do anything about it yet but if we loose the next 3 then they really do not have any excuse. Just my thoughts, for what it's worth.
  • Wasn't sure where to post the above as there were so many related threads on here about this. If it's the wrong one then I apologise! :-)
  • Must admit as much as I loved Curbs all these posts wanting back are annoying.

There are plenty of other good, young and most importantly cheap managers that would give their right arm to manage us and Curbishley is not one of them.
