  • [cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]some people rationalised relegation as a good thing because we'd weed out the deadwood, win more games and visit new grounds. Look how that turned out.

very good point henry but don't under estimate the excitement of this league.....................

Nothing, 1, we only have 1 plastic wet spammer, and 2 they wouldn't dare anyway.
  • As with most of you very disappointed, but had doubts that it would go through. Just wondered if Zabeel were put off by the possibility that they owned a League One club. Anyway look on the bright side we have a good crop of youngsters and who knows how good they will prove to be (could be a blessing in disguise).

Seeing the way so many creamed themselves on the tiny prospect that we had a chance of turning into one of those beasts, surprised me greatly.

    Quality!

Can't be bothered to read the rest of the thread to be honest, but I'm all over that comment. Well played Sir!

It is exciting!. The number of times I've seen a side go ahead and then loose. : - (
  • [cite]Posted By: southamptonaddick[/cite]Better to be rich and miserable than poor and miserable.

What do we really have to be miserable about? The club is still here, we have our own ground, training facilities and compared to many in this league (and the PL) are fairly financially stable. Things could be A LOT worse.

No stick up here, none of these northern monkeys have even heard of Charlton :P
  • Exactly Stu, what exactly have we got to be miserable about .

Could be a lot worse - could live in Hull for starters!
    ;o)
  • You wont get any grief from me.

Aside from the "gentle" ribbing AFKA got from me in the pub yesterday evening (and it was gentle considering the flack I've been taking from all angles), I was genuinely saddened to hear the takeover had collapsed. It would have been good to have you guys banging on the door again. Who knows, this might be your turning point now. It could well bring everyone together and you could storm into the play offs and get a trip to Wembley. You will all be able to look back at this little saga and hopefully say no harm was done in the long run.

Hey, for all of us, the only way is up now (although obviously its very capable of going much further down too in our case) but we all have to be positive. Here's to you stuffing Burnley at the weekend and here's to Spurs getting their first league win of... sometime soon in 2011 (dont forget its lucky for Spurs when the year ends in 1!)

Keeping with the optimistic outlook, I've forked out to see the Blackburn & Everton games at WHL and for my sins, I've got a ticket for next Wedneday. Yep, gonna love seeing us get torn a new ring piece at the Emirates but at the end of the day, sh1te or not, Spurs is for life, not just a couple of good seasons.

(BTW Fancy swapping managers? Think I'd rather Pardew than Ramos right now ;o)...)
  • I'm too old to count my chickens before they hatch.

Therefore I knew not to large it and it turns out that was the best policy!

I was gutted, but I now have more of a sense of perspective about the whole thing.

Shit happens. We are Charlton. To quote a great poem by Rudyard Kipling:

..."If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
    If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same...."

    I'm doing my best!

10/10 for trying to buter these lot up after all the anti-tottenham stuff they've posted lately that has shocked you so much!!
  • As Stu Hu16 said we still have a lot more going for us than many clubs in this league, a lot of clubs still see Charlton as a big scalp and in reality there is nothing stopping us showing a bit of steel and progressing up the league, just because one takeover fell thru who is to say that there isn't another company now alive to the possibilities of investing in Charlton Athletic? Things may be tough at the moment but we have come thru stormier sea's in the 80's and 90's and we are still standing proud.
Charlton Athletic are strong enough and big enough to be sitting at the millionaires table that is the Premier League with or without investment, we've done it before and there is no reason we can't do it again! (as long as we play more games like we did against Reading and lot less like we played against Bristol City, we just have to correctly adapt to the CCC first!) As Chris Kamara would say "game on"
  • the problem is last games last season Southampton,Coventry & Leicester were all fighting to stay up 2 did 1 didn't we aren't any bigger than them,we have no devine right not to be in a relegation scrap and the takeover would have helped us avoid a scrap.I seriously don't know if the players and management have got enough about them to avoid it.
  • steve do some work we hate millwall w-----s.
  • no one large's it up with me at work..................they know better ;-)
