  • Modest investment is all we can expect until we/if we get out of the Championship. The knoweldge that we are in the black and can afford to compete for the cream of the crop in the Championship and to be able to pay for decent loan signings, i.e. players from the big four clubs would do me for now. We are in dire need for some quality around the pitch and fingers crossed, we'll be able to bring some in, even if temporarily. If we can tempt Arsenal with some fees for a few of their young guns, and add Bowyer's experience to the midfield, that would be great in my opinion. Benjani (at City) needs games to get his full fitness back too and seeing we need goals, would go for him for a month or two too.
  • [cite]Posted By: ShootersHillGuru[/cite]intersesting as usual MCFC but do you see them installing "their" people to run the club or just let the existing set up continue but with some financial input.

Tricky question, they would most likely want to at least give the club a new chairman and he might have his own ideas on what the board should look like but I can´t really see them getting involved in the football side of the club.
[cite]Posted By: Goonerhater[/cite]MCFC i have met Hamdan (his horse Nashwan had won the Derby that day)and once technically worked for the Mactoombs. Also know their Uk house keeper, although its been a good few years since i have seen her.

I meant as a Charlton fan in general, you could be Sheik Hamdans best mate as far as I know..;)

MCFC is our man in the inside of CAFC :-) I claim my fiver.
The new chairman would most probarbly be Murray.

Erm, no..Murray could be acting chairman but Zabeel would surely like to have their own guy as chairman of the board.

I really should have choosed Sheik Hamdan as a nick, the only way to get people to understand that I´m not ITK I bet...lol
  • Dont believe you MCFC ;-) I want to know right now who we have already signed.

I agree with much of what our Citeh friend has said. There are a number of reasons why they won't necessarily splash Robinho style cash.

    1. They like the prudent way we operate with our community work and the positive publicity it brings - it will reflect well on them, so why change it too much?

    2. I suspect that Charltons Board have already shown them their five year plan (the one incorporating getting promoted) and my guess is that is all about steady incremental progress based upon target 40,000 and growth as the Thames gateway projects develop.

    3. Going round with an open cheque book will just inflate the price of average players so sending out a message that the club will have a relatively tight budget will help to stop the club/them getting mugged.

    4. If they are going to bring in their own management (like Jiminez for example) he is going to run the slide rule over the playing side before recommending investment in players.

    5. It was reported on the day of the announcement that the approach taken will mirror that of QPR, namely some investment in the playing side but not throwing caution to the wind.

If it's true, is that good or bad news? Well for me it's good news. I'd rather see us built on sound foundations rather than the mad rush approach which could alienate the uniqueness of what has been carefully built up over the last twenty years. Call me naive or sentimental but I like what our club has stood for and the part we have all played in it's resurrection. I like reading about the community work and all that. What has been de-railed in the last three years has been the on pitch development. I expect Zabeel to help us get that back on track i.e. back to the Premier League but I don't expect to see Ronaldhino or Messi joining our ranks anytime soon.
  • I would love to take a peek at that 5 year plan Bing. 1st two years post relegation certainly not gone to plan.
  • Zabeel will probably do what QPR have done.

Sign good players at this level and we'll have a bit more cash than anyone most in this league. We're not going to spunk £30m on players because why the hell would anyone do that for Championship standard players.

Roughly a £10m investment on the pitch would really benefit us at this level.
  • [cite]Posted By: ShootersHillGuru[/cite]Sounds plausable to be sure but without an initial investment in the team / Manager I sorely believe they might be investing in a Div 1 club

I seriously feel we have a team more or less capable of a play off place, therefore the question is that of the position of the manager and if pards does not sort things out quickly then his position will come under close scrutiny.

Isn't the Wise rumour paper talk? Whilst in due dilligence official sources need to keep quiet therefore whois talking about wise?
  • Anything less is quite frankly pointless imho. Stuck in the second teir is surely not what they see as a future.

  • Seriously, what the f**k does Tony Hudd know?

    Little if nothing

Yeah well it wouldn't have been based on us being relegated thats for sure!!! What I suspect is that those made three years ago at the time of Curbs departure were cryogenically stored until the good times returned. The expectation being promotion in the first year down, err promotion in the second year down err well lets hope so anyway.
  • spot on bing my thoughts also, am hoping the cautious approach is more about not paying over the odds for players, and therefore getting value for money - we certainly won't see a Roman approach, we may still however see big deals eventually.
  • We should have frozen some of Super Clives sperm in our cryogenic bank too bing !

I think thats right. Of course we wont know if/until it happens.

    Oh the wisdom of hindsight!!!
  • Do you know what the biggest by far plus that the proposed takeover might provide. Long term financial stability and safety for our great club. Fuck Kaka and Messi and spending squillions.

    Absolutely spot on.
  • MCFC, I like reading all of your posts. I was just wondering how long you have been a fan of City and who your favourite player is.

SHG, even if we had, it'd still take another 6-10 years for that plan to come to fruition.

Hope you are right and it was an acceptable one!

Since 1976 I´d say..Kinkladze was a hero of course, even got myself a kinkster shirt. Goater and Wanchope also comes to mind of course but in todays City no one will touch SWP ;)

got to say Bing whatgever they offer as long as it is realistic we have to take it the way the club is going this season on the pitch and possibly off it.

Looks like SWP just got back to City in time. Going nowhere at Chelski but, back where he feels "in the zone" looks a different player.

Unfortunately, by the time Scotty Parker returns to the Valley, his worth to the team will be negligible. Rather highlights that a lot of money is not necessarily a good thing for the Club and can also ruin a player's career.
  • I can see Tony Jiminez being involved. He introduced Zabeel to Ashley so has good connections there and it isn't his fault that Ashley failed to even meet Zabeel. He has since left Newcastle where he was really Director of Recriutment. A couple of Newcastle fans at work had wished he'd stayed as he was directly responsible in signing Colloccini and another whose name I can't remember who have been their best players this season. As for Wise, no fcuking way !!
