Agree nss. Squad can`t be one of the worse in this league. Its now my firm belief that its Pardews coaching thats the problem. Even if Zabeel take over and invest in january we will be so far adrift of the promotion pack it wont matter.
Fair point nss but I also see a lack of direction. Under Curbs we always played a certain way and always got what we expected even when not pretty. Under Pards I just dont see any Charlton way of playing. We turn up and play. Thats it.

I agree, we're not a good footballing side, or a long ball team.
I don't like blaming it on a lack of effort/desire/grit etc, as I said in the other thread, our attacking players are very inconsistent with little end product. We can't keep the ball and create chances. When we do, our strikers can't finish them. Gray never seems to get many chances, Varney does, but doesn't look like he can score regularly in this division. He's scored some good goals but doesn't do it very often.
Hello, just signed up - 43 years after watching my first CAFC game! One of the reasons I did so is that although I have always believed, somewhat conservatively, in backing the man doing the job, I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that AP is not the man to take us back to the top flight. I say that as someone who has never called for a manager to be sacked, even when the likes of Andy Nelson and Ian Dowie have tried our patience to the maximum. But frankly, at the moment as we sit in 19th place, I fear that AP is not even looking like the man to save us from the drop for the second time in three seasons.
The reason I say this is because ShootersHillGuru is right - we are not one of the worst squads in the league. Sure, we're not great. But this is a league of very average teams - Cardiff are now fourth and we've indisputably got a better squad than they have. Therefore, we are woefully under-performing.
Given the general medocrity of this league, the one thing that can make a qualitative difference is an inspirational/motivational leader. I've sadly come to the conclusion that AP is not that figure. Even his excuses have come to lack any imagination or originality - see Fish's comment above.
Like SHG, my fear is now that if the takeover does go ahead (and I'll believe it when we see it), we're going to be too far off the pace in January for even a major raid in the transfer market to get us back in contention.
Meanwhile, Mr Pardew, however badly our season unfolds between now and Christmas, please stop the risible excuses. Nobody believes them and they just hold you up to ridicule !
Thanks for the warm - and witty - welcome. I'll try not to agree too often with the Guru of Shooters Hill, but the point about just turning up and playing is spot on : it perfectly sums up my concern about our tactical naivete ever since we've been back in the championship.
Look at teams like Hull and Stoke last season : you can argue about their lack of pretiness or whatever, but they developed a distinctive style and/or attitude which meant everybody on the pitch knew what they were doing and what was expected of them.
I've noticed one of Pards favourite pre and post match comments is : "Well, when you come to play against xxxx, you know exactly what kind of game you're going to get..." Yet when other teams come to play against Charlton, nobody knows what they're going to get - because it seems even our own players and manager don't know!
And while we're on the subject of AP's excuses, I've often wondered what he tells the dressing room after a sub-standard performance. Does he spout the same nonsense we get in the press conference ("I was proud of our commitment today, the only reason we lost was because of the hopeless ref") ? Or does he read the riot act ? I've really no idea !
I suspect that Pards is as deluded as his comments suggest. Whatever the reality his words are not motivating the players or supporters. I am very worried that we are sleepwalking to a relegation scenario.
I think Pardew considers himself as one of the lads a bit and he is definitely not a tea cup thrower. It's one of the reasons for his demise at West ham.
It'd be interesting to hear from MCFC? I was in a pub near Maine Rd when City got relegated from what's now the Fizzy Drink Championship. Big men were sobbing uncontrollably. I went outside & there were police horses & geezers just lobbing missiles & generally kicking off. Nightmare! Ps. Is it true that Sepp Blatter's wife is named Fanny?!
It seems to me sometimes that Pards comes over more as a mentor of players than a manager. My worry has always been that he becomes too pally with the players. I suspect that is what happened at West Ham.
I don't have too much of a problem with his post match comments because they are given in the heat of the moment when he hasn't had the chance for mature reflection.
weve got very little quality about us.... so in that circumstance its down to attitude and commitment and rolling the sleeves up... and guess what we cant do that either....
so we did alright with andy reid pulling the dtrings first part of last season.. we lost him and fell down the ranks.... this year we got nothing...
I think our poor display yesterday can be put down to the international week. How can you expect players to travel to all four corners of the globe and return to domestic duties without it having any affect. You only had to watch Rooney last night - he only scored 1 goal against WBA! You will see a much inproved team against Bristol on tuesday night as they would have got over their jet lag etc.
I am with AFKA but Pardew is indefensible at the moment.
We are not scoring goals and despite my vehement defending of the Gray Varney partnership I am afraid something has to give.
Despite Sound as £ constant snipes about Dickson based on reserve team appearances he is scoring so surely must be given a chance. The midfield are not creating so surely Jonjo must come in the frame.
Youga can't defend for toffee so he should either be moved into midfield or dropped on his head in the hope that it reminds him how to defend.

nigel....NIGEL...oi steady on there old chum....ask Bart if you can change your user name...it's not too late!
I can't believe that Pards is still saying that there is something in the team that needs adressing, he's had enough time to address it so maybe he doesn't know what it is. The man, imho, is clueless. What is that now 2 goals scored in 6 away games. I'd rathe he went, especially if we get taken over, if not he might stay to the end of the season, we finish mid table and then he goes. The new man then wouldn't know any of the players and who'd he want to keep/release and we are back to square one. If he goes now the new man would have time to have a real goos look at the squad, assess it properly and lauch a real challenge next season. Who knows, in the meantime he might hit upon a winning formula so all the better. I've lost any faith in Pards and the last straw is the insistance on playing Cranie ahead of both Moo2 and Semedo, especially when the latter played so impressively second half v Ipswich.

Only good thing about today is that Barnsley are even worse than us...... maybe
However, when i look into the future at the moment, i'm not convinced i like what i see.
So i'm going to close my eyes for a few weeks !!
