Sorry Mortimerican but I disagree and think you are making a fundamental mistake about the role of the SD and your own role in this.
The SD role is not to counter whatever the board do in public or to give voice to the whole spectrum of fans views no matter how negative or positive.
I am still a Director for a few more weeks, until the Fans' Forum is up and running.
So like everyone else connected to the club I am restricted as to what I can say in public. Yes that is a limitation of the SD role of which I am well, well aware. It is one area where the Fans Forum could be an improvement as the members will not be restricted in the same way.
I was honest and said what I believed. If that is not enough then I am sorry but that is the best I can do and have tried to do for two years. If I had serious concerns or doubts I would not have accepted the offer to go on Sky or BBC London. That does not mean that I am unable to see any potential issues that could arise from the deal but I was speaking a few hours after the initial news and was asked to comment, from a fans point of view, on what the deal might mean, why would they buy Charlton and would it be sad if Richard left.
Tavern and Rothko were there. They are not Directors. Should they have voiced those concerns? They were, IMHO, as honest as they could be.
As Tavern said to me you get asked a lot of closed questions as the media already have a story and want to feed into that. Hence the reason I had to side step the "did you think this morning that foreign takeovers were a bad thing" trap. My view that it doesn't matter if it is UK or foreign but only if it is a good or bad investment is one I have held for a long time and have expressed on here and in my articles many moons ago.
If you want something more challenging said on the TV then you should have gone down there yourself and spoken up.
If you have concerns, and those you voice may be valid, then voice them. Ring the papers and the radio phone ins. Stand for the Fans Forum, contact the Supporters Club or start organising a supporters' group of your own.
This is for you to do something about. You are part of the solution or you are part of the problem.
One of the restrictions of being a Director is that you are bound by confidentiality and collective responsibility and are not free to say anything you fancy. Some may question why this is the case but it's just the reality. Henry's comments to me were pretty good and better than I could have done given the vox pop nature of these kind of media intrusions.
Message to all of you in this thread....there's plenty of time for serious thought in the months to come as to whether this should be said or that shoud have been said now's hardly the time............. LET'S F'ing WELL PARTY!!!!!
1. Faced with lots of dollar signs Murray may allow his judgement to be coloured. Many amongst us would
Don't judge others by your own standards Morts, nothing Mr. Murray has ever done regarding the club has ever suggested he is in it for the money. He is loaded, and if he was greedy I don't think he would have pumped his personal wealth into Charlton in the first place. I trust him and the board to do the right thing for Charlton. When I heard the news yesterday I can honestly say I have never felt anything like it in my life, I thought I was going to faint. You obviously didn't feel that, only suspicion and negativity I expect. I pity your joyless demeanour Morts...

Algarve, I realise it's pretty quiet in your neck of the woods at this time of the year...but will you have a little celebration of some kind?
I am already and it's not yet mid-day!

But i think Mortimerican raises some very interesting points, and i certainly believe in his angle of thinking.
Don't worry, Floyd's will not be quiet this afternoon, all the locals will be heading to one place to watch the England game later on, believe me...
That's great...ave a good un'!
