I understand some people's doubts about Dickson, I saw him play non league and in th reserves and down at the gills. And the boy is talented, i would say more than mcleod even, Mcleod was realesed from Derby for not making the grade and had one decent season with the MK Dons in league two and we got him for a crazy fee, Chris is a local lad in the mould of rufus, newton even Ian wright as i said earlier he reminds me off. He is hungry and wanting to make the grade, look at his celebrations up at west brom, he was buzzing. Will leave it here for now in regards to dickson, just hope he gets his chance and he proves me and the others right. and if he dosnt then im big enough to take it on the chin.
I think people are excited by Dickson because whenever he's played, it's easily noticeable that he has the magic 'eye for goal'. Not too slow either.
I don't think there's anything wrong in getting excited by a player you've only seen a little bit of, but there is definitely something wrong with condemning them in the same situation. They're a Charlton player after all, and getting on their back before they've had a chance is, how the corporates say, counter-productive.

People seem to forget he cant actually trap a ball or pass but heh, if you're all pinning your hopes on him at least you've got some hopes.
I think what a lot of the frustration boils down to is that Pardew has signed a lot of players and they have not been giving the chance over a run of games for a. try and put their stamp on a position, or b. let the fans get a good, proper look at them.
Ok, he can't of helped with the injury, but Dickson may well go without getting even a couple of consecutive 1st team games.
Ditto McLeod at some stage.
Varney has never really had a run of games as a central striker, his best position.
Scott Sinclair was dismissed as not good enough for our bench after a couple of snippets, yet within a week was Palace's best player.
Youga and Moo2 were in and out like the hokey cokey.
Pards buys these players, smoozes everyone with great things said about them in the press, everyone gets excited and thinks we have the next best thing, yet all we get is frustration as they never get a proper go to show what they've got.
I'd expect the four main strikers to be Varney, Gray, Todorov, Fleetwood. Dickson loaned out if all four fit at start of season. Can't see any place for Iwelumo. Or McLeod when recovered.
I thought Pards had said he was not lookinmg for any more squad players, if he bouight them then they had a good chance of starting. Surely he is not including Fleetwood in this.

Maybe it means Fleetwood will play up front with Gray / Todorov, with Varney out wide. More likely Pards perhaps considered him already a Charlton player. Or maybe it is a sign that Fleetwood will at least be on the bench and pushing Varney hard for a place.
I think people are excited by Dicko because he had more shots in a half hour appearance than Andy Gray managed the whole season. (i'm not down on Andy, I'm sure he will come good. Whereas Iwelumo will never be anything other than an immobile lump)
If the news is true then one of our forward line will be off, and realistically I don't think we need Iwelumo and Gray, they are too similar. I think it'llbe big Chris that goes.
I'd like to see Varney and Gray start with two out of Todorov, Dickson and Fleetwood. McLeod being out until later in the year.
What you have to remember about Pardew is that he came into the professional game late - aged I think 25/26, having been given a chance he took it and is probably seeing something in Dickson and Fleetwood something of himself at that age - players who are desperate to be given a chance.
Chris Dickson deserves a run in the team to say he cant pass or trap a ball is ridiculous. He banged in 11 goals at the gills and was banging goals in in the resies against prem reserves i think he even got 4 in one game.
Dicko needs to improve i am sure he knows that but the boy will score goals, are you forgetting that this lad was in the world yoof championships and classed as a huge prospect but just lost his way a bit.
to be that critical when he has played how many games for us??
I think it is healthy for there to be a player your looking forward to seeing as with Shelvey i am hoping Dicko gets a run and scores for us this year.
Gray we payed a 1.5 million for the only reason he played was because of that fee theortically if we had bought dicko for 1.5 mill from Gillingham when he scored 11 he would have played for the remainder of the season.
[cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]what sort of player is Fleetwood? Big front man or nippy Owenesque?
More the latter I think.
Fleetwood's not exactly your big target man - he's only 5' 8" tall, so we've bought him purely because he knows where the back of the net is.
Where he fits into the team, we shall see - but Pards has always said he wants 2 players for every position.
Up front you need more options - look at us latter part of the season: Toddy out, McLeod out, Dickson out.
Varney missed 4-6 games, Gray missed a few with injury/family problems more or less during the same period.
Indestructible Big Chris was the only constant - but with little decent service (not including hopefully lumping the ball vaguely in his direction) he wasn't likely to score many himself.
Parky, his old manager at Colchester, was also quoted somewhere last year as saying they were very pleased with his general contribution and character, but he was lacking in some departments. Read what you like into that - but it's obvious management are fully aware of his limitations, he just gives a different option and useful defending set pieces.
And you can't complain at the value of 10 goals from open play - from a free transfer signing!
Personally, I think Big Chris is considered not quite up to the ability standards set by management - and will be one to go.

To those who dont understand,Dickson gives a lot of people hope more than expectation. I couldnt give a toss if he cant tackle or pass. If he has the natural goalscoring ability we so badly needed last season give him a chance. He s proved himself already out on loan, surely it makes more sense to loan Fleetwood out to see how he performs.

Me too, but knowing our luck it will be Varney.

Absolutely spot on.

Glad that's cleared up anyway :-)

Dicko will come good
Can not see the lad staying have heard he is just not settled
More the latter I think.
Varney and Big chris was my prefered choice its just i dont think Varney likes it here which is a shame
