I think he's got quite a lot of talent, but will always be limited by lack of pace. Can definitely do a job for us at this level - and probably a far better one than Thatcher.
[cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]he's about right for where we are now mid table chumpionship player at best imo ... a bit like paul sturgess
Thought his first stint in the 1st team went well, but then got injured and was not as good when he came back, think the jury is out, but should not be dismissed quite so soon. ALL of the youngsters need to be given sometime, before we condemn them.

I don't expect Basey to become the new Roberto Carlos, but he definately has something to work on. A good first touch, solid distribution and physical presence, he has decent attributes behind him. Hasn't got pace, but nor did others who made it to the top.
Long-term if he progresses, he definately has a bit of Gareth Barry about him and may suit moving into midfield.
As a local boy who has come through the ranks, i'll be willing him on to succeed.
Basey sat in the same row as me for two of the youth games and was a real decent bloke. Same as Henry hope he makes it more than others simply as he has come through the ranks.
[cite]Posted By: Fish[/cite]I like him. Think he's underrated to be honest. Would have him and Youga as the left back options next season with no problem.
I would agree with this, i thought he was very good and eager when he played last season
I think it's also important that's he's the poster boy for all our unrated youth/reserve players. It must be really demoralising for players who see us buying our way out of injury crises and never feeling that they'll be given their chance. Seeing Basey in the first team with a new contract must make them all think, why not me?
Basey never stood out or anything, well not compared to the way Jonjo has, and Wright, Arter etc in the last few years.
Think Chris Solly could do the same, eventually make a few first team appearances after being solid for the reserves, rather than standing out as a future star.
In my opinion this is the best news we've had in ages, solid consistent performer from what i have seen from him, and only 19, that isn't something i can say for many other players!!!
The only thing he seems to lack is acceleration - but he seems to have more or less everything else, particularly a good 1st touch, good passing range, good dead ball play, good vision, a cool head and physically strong.
That shows he has the makings of a very good player. Let's give him the platform to gain a little more experience and grow into the player he shows every promise of becoming.
But remember, he's only 19 - still a kid. Don't expect too much, too soon.
He added: "I enjoy playing left-back, but I've played in the central midfield role on several occasions for the youth team and reserves.
"I like it there, it means you can get on the ball and keep the midfield ticking over by passing it out wide and getting forward. I enjoy it in midfield but it's up to the gaffer where he plays me. I don't mind where it is, as long as I'm playing!"
Footballers always used to say that pre-Sky hijack days.
Some still do, those that love the game - and if they weren't pro's, would play Sunday mornings in the park leagues for nothing.
Look at the old pro's over 35 still playing in the lower leagues and non-league, vets teams, etc.
They carry on playing because it's in their blood - and can't think of anything else they'd rather do.

i.e. should be playing in the centre of midfield.
He's got a better left peg than Sturgess but other than that I know what you mean..
He is the new Keith Jones and that is a compliement.
We need a spine to the team and he can fill the midfield destroyer role. Just need a CH, GK and CF and we are sorted.
Death row at The Valley.......... ;o)
Give him some time...

Not sure what the connection was but good on him for going along.
Elliot
Basey
Shelvey
Wagstaff
Solly
would all be on my team sheet

Rubbish, first mistake boo like hell and call for him to be sold. It motivates all the other players so why not him
Absolutely, Henry. As people say, it motivates all the players if you trash them.........
and I didn't miss your irony/sarcasm ;o)
