Holland player of season, ZZ 2nd - can't really argue with that much, not been impressed with either of them, but they seem to have put in a little more effort than the rest
Think that comment is out of order scruffle, Paddy McCarthy was absolute pony at the start of the season, and i slagged him off but ever since hes come back into the side he has given everything for the club, and i am happy to say i voted for him to be POTY. I think if every player gave the effort and commitment of himself and Matty Holland (who probably deserved the award) then we would be talking about at least a play-off place.
Hope Paddy goes on from strength to strength, and hope he's skipper next season, natural leader on the pitch!
I too voted for him as POTY. If most of the other of our players were committed as him we wouldn't be in the position we are now or, conversely, without Paddy and Matty we could be looking at relegation. Lay off McCarthy. He may have been at fault for the goal yesterday but it's bloody easy to blame the defence when for a mistake when players all over the pitch are making mistakes left right and centre but when you cock up on the wing it doesn't look as bad. Perhaps if we actually had shots on goal and scored a lot more then the odd defensive mistake wouldn't even be noticed.
When I first read scruffle's post I agreed. But then i stopped and thought, who has actually been better? Holland - consistentely, Weaver - for the most part, Semedo - sometimes, Sodje - sometimes, Reid - until he was sold, Toddy - until he was crocked. And as far as I can see that's about it, it's difficult to know who could have got it.
The trouble is there haven't been enough good players to announce runner up places. It's just the same as the best goal award. What an embarrassment that was showing about two good ones and the rest all workaday headers and six yard toe-pokes.
I voted for McCarthy purely for the reason he has looked like the only player along with Holland and Weaver who look like he gives a toss. Not counting the loan players like Sodje and Lita who have shown some passion becaus ehtye are not our and wouldn't vote for a loan playrt.

The trouble is there haven't been enough good players full stop. That the hugely ineffective Matt Holland can be player of year pretty much sums up what a shit season this has been!
I agree that Bougherra is currently our best player, but he put in some disappointing shifts before Christmas - without all the injuries though you are probably right.
I hope Holland is released because we aren't going anywhere upwards while we build our midfield around him.

I still stand by my original statemant, maccarthey is simply not good enough - just remember how bad he looked when bougy wasn't around to help clear up some of he's mess, also when we played with full back who liked to get forward he looked really really bad tryin to hold the back, he's lack of speed and crap positional play has put us too much in the shit this season
I also fear that holland will b givin an extension, if only to appease the fans who voted him POTY!!!!
the fact that Holland was player of the season says it all.
his effort was commendable but as a couple of the more perceptive posters have noted his presence in the centre of midfield limits the side to a mid-table standard at best
the few occasions we looked really good this season, in my opinion, we had Semedo in the holding role and ZZ pushing forward - that is what we need next season
I wouldn't have voted for anybody this season
perhaps the club should have acknowledged what has gone on, on the pitch simply hasn't been good enough and scrapped the award this season...

Have to agree with that. Can't fault his effort but not sure what else he brought to the team

It's a Supporters' Club, not Football Club event. Despite the poor season people still went and the from the reports above had a good time.
And there would be a gap on that big board in Bartrams : -)
we asked Theo foley why there wasn't an award one year and his reply was coz i was manager and we were shite,i have to agree i would feckin scrap it this year.Matt Holland probably doesn't get much satisfaction winning it from the other pile of poo this year.
i know we like our players to show passion and committment but at this level ability would help and i'm of the view that paddy is very limited in that department .
we will never go up if he plays more than 2/3's of the season IMO , lovely bloke but not good enough for the higher levels of this league
Come off it Crispy, McCarthy is useless. No matter how much effort he puts in he will never be good enough for us. You can't make a racehorse out of a donkey and he is a donkey. First out the door I hope
Well as it's been said a lot of times this season, everyone's entitled to their own opinions, and i genuinely feel that Paddy and Boogy can be a great partnership in the Championship next season, and i look forward to seeing it, wouldnt be surprised if Paddy is given the captain's armband for pre-season to see how he does, and i feel he deserves it, first out the door for me is Sharon Ambrose, waste of a player on the pitch
Paddy Mac is apparently the loudest motivator in the dressing room (not sure that says much for this season) but I would give him the captains armband for next season. Sure he has weaknesses but he does give 100%. Dont think we can afford better either. Monteiro should be in with a shout next season so there will be competition. Paddy says the players call Monteiro the beast due to his fierce tackles.
I agree about Ambrose. He sums up our season for me. Has performed at his best on only a few occasions. Cant see him making a better go of it next year.
[cite]Posted By: falconwood_1[/cite]We are all entitled to our opinions but the difference between commitment and quality has led us into the situation we find ourselves in.
McCarthy has made just too many mistakes but he isn't alone.
Pardew says he knows where are problems are.
Yeah Alan, all over the bloody park!
There's weaknesses in *every* department.
That is what is so depressing. I cant for the life of me see a starting XI out of this squad that is likely to do any better than this lot this season. And with no money to spend and Pardews track record of signings so far one wonders if it wont get worse. The only bright spark is the possibility that some of the youngsters may be good enough to step up but its putting a high expectation on them to do so.

Anyone else slightly worried that we must surely be in relagation form?
yes please. i'll be glad to see the evidence.

either
have ability but lack committment
or
have committment but lack ability
So Mr Pardew can you try and organise the team next year to include players who have both ability and committment
I just hope he goes.

yeah it cost him a few million quid to get a team this poor and a season to work it out, give him time it can't get worse can it??
