Whilst I don't want to rain on our parade

edited April 2008 in General Charlton
the play-offs still look unlikely. One place up for grabs and we are really looking for Wolves to implode and hope we can take advantage. Stranger things have happened I suppose. How costly is that Wolves winner going to prove, those three points could be massive. I'm really pleased for those that travelled to Home Park that they not only got a win but a performance. If only we could have battled like that a bit more often.

Will be a lot of ifs and buts if we just miss out. If we'd beaten Wolves we'd be in the top 6 now but we didn't. We can't change the past.

Just hope the team give it a real go and look like they want it. They owe the fans at a least.
  • Thats spot on Henry. Ending the season on a positive note would be just what we all need to take us through the summer.
  • I know LA. Nobody getting carried away ,but aint it nice to be a bit proud tonight. Right, two papers for me tomorrow.

agree entirely, finishing on a high would make us fans more optimistic on our chances next season.

quite right, proud as punch, typical of them to win though when I didn't go for once !! Maybe that's why though.
  • I'm convinced that staying down will be the best for us in the long-term, if we go up it will be nothing more than a short-term financial bonus, so i'm just going to enjoy the win tonight, and any other win before the end of the season, and not look to deep into it all.
  • Nice to be able to get 2 papers on Sunday again. But aint this typical Charlton ? we get a good win , start to think we are back in it again play a team a week later who we should beat and f**k it up again. Been the same for years and years.

    isn't that just the truth.

they've made my saturday morning better this week than the last few thats for sure - I'll be having a few beers later on with a smile on my face and a niggling feeling that you never know it might just happen.

should think it unlikely the Board would agree although I know where you are coming from.
  • if we win all of our remaining games that will put the pressure on those above. I just want to go to new wembley with charlton

  • I had a gut feeling we would win as its typical Cahrlton....as always it's the hope that kills you
  • Jeez, we come from behind to win 2-1 playing with 10-men for 87 minutes and someone STILL starts a thread with a title like this one. The heart sinks just as soon as you read it.
    :o(
  • If you can't beat 'em Offy, join em :o(

Top 10 reasons to be disappointed with life, despite today's "must" win against all odds:

    10. Solly broke his toe and out for rest of season.
    9. Pards is still manager. He's cack and hates us.
    8. Weaver out for important run-in. Randolph is out on loan and Elliot, despite playing well, is too young to get us into the playoffs. You won't win anything with youth (except youth cups).
    7.Lisbie.
    6. We won, so we couldn't boo the players off the pitch. Well, not much. True Addicks clapped the result through gritted teeth.
5.Iwelumo was playing, bust a gut for the club and played well; that means Pards will probably pick him again next week. Booooooo!
    4. Lita gave away his shirt, but it's just because he was hot, not because he loves Charlton.
    3. Lita scored 2, but they were only tap-ins.
2.Only won 2-1. Varney should have made it 3.
    1. Fans are shite. We only took 900 away to Plymouth, including Oggy, and we all know Plymouth brought more to the Valley. Disgraceful.

Bonus: Oggy was feckin' right all along and that really, really grates us True Addicks. BoOoOoOoOoOo!

  • inspired post!..

can we get something in about Dowie/Les Reed in there, and Sunderland doing well..
  • let em have it lookie
  • jesus, what a thread
  • Must say that this morning I can`t think of or want to say one negative thing about our fantastic Addicks.
  • 'Must say that this morning I can`t think of or want to say one negative thing about our fantastic Addicks'

Left another striker free to score against us ? Whoops....
  • Didn`t think or want to think of that ;0)
  • Like AFKA, I think going up would be a disaster. This is a poor division and any team that goes up will find it tough. There's a chance that this team will flourish next year - there have been so many personnel changes that this was never going to be a good year. 2008-09 may be a good year if we can keep the good ones.

  • Spot on tma. Spot on.
  • Has anybody looked at Wolves and Ipswich's fixtures!

Maybe.......just maybe........we can time this just right and sneak into the playoffs.
  • Let's not worry about any of the other teams around us ..... just focus on our next game. If we get the 3 points, the team grow in self belief and the supporters get behind them like in the 2nd half in Plymouth.

Then we repeat the process. Simple!

    ;o)
  • we win all our games it will be enough to make playoffs, that im certain
  • let's finish above palace to stay no.1 in south london, anything more like the play offs will be an added bonus!!!!... when was the last time they finished above us??
  • it was ten seasons ago oohaah 97/98, when they got relegated from the Prem and we got promoted.

This old thread below has some interesting comparison stats

  • It's about finishing the season strongly a poor run like we were on would only carry through to next season, it's important we finish the season on a winning run wherever we end up finishing.
  • cheers afka... just needed confirmation cos i have to continually remind palace fans of their place
  • Wolves run in is certainly harder than ours. Although they only need to win 4 of the 6, and thats if we win every game.

    Bristol City (a)
    WBA (h)
    Ipswich (h)
    Cardiff (h)
    Coventry (a)
    Plymouth (h)
  • 4 of those 6 are home games too
