After being an irregular for Benitez, JJ is back in the Geordie starting Xl .. nice to see that Brucie appreciates the advantage of a full English ((:>)
Hopefully he will come back to us for a bit, be nice to have a pint with @uncle too
I love him, his attitude is exactly what a lot of young players coming through now could do with. Showed real desire to get to things first and took no prisoners, that was as a 16/17 year old and whilst he didn't get enough chances for England he has had a really good career
Would have loved to see him back at the Valley for one more gig, wages might be an obstacle!
I’m not normally a fan of the “let’s get that former player/manager (delete as appropriate) back”, but a player like Jonjo would be so good for this team and is what we desperately need. I didn’t actually realise he was still playing but if he wants to come home after his stint at Burnley then he would be very welcome!
Gomez, Parker, Lookman, Konsa etc have gone on to have better careers, but no player has excited me like Jonjo when he came through. Weirdly, he kind of arrived fully-formed at 16 years old. Already 6ft+, composed on the ball, excellent passer, good shooting ability, confident and with genuinely elite technique. If these areas had improved at the normal rate for a young player he would have been a generational talent. His lack of in-game intelligence and off the ball ability held him back in the end, but he's still had a good career.
Will always remember him turning down Chelsea to sign a contract with us so we got a (slightly) better fee when he eventually moved on, plus that cracking goal away at Orient among others. Would love to see him at The Valley again one day.

Would love it but I doubt Jones would go for a player like Jonjo

We are pleased to confirm the signing of experienced midfielder Jonjo Shelvey on a deal until the end of the season.
He now joins Scott Parker's Burnley FC.
