  • For all you tossers that slagged off Curbs....I would take mid table mediocrity in the prem rather than mid table mediocrity in the fizzy pop....knew his limitations but got the job done...relish the 4-2 away wins at Arsenal 3-0 at Spurs....it will be along time before we ever get back there...we are a club in decline. Defections at the board level are showing that already.....
  • [cite]Posted By: loloblader[/cite]would u prefer to push for the play-offs win them but then get munched in the prem like Derby or wait another season build-up then push for auto promo next season?

If we could guarantee promotion next year but as West Brom have found out it doesn't always work that way. If we can go up this year then let's go up this year.

Right now I can't see it but come Friday I'll be wishing and hoping again.
  • Just another meaningless piece of optimism for this point in time.....

The last time we lost three in a row we went on to win the next four!
  • [cite]Posted By: Reamsofverse[/cite]But iv'e always written your articles for you Ben anyway, woops haven't you told anyone!! lol!

Shhh, no one was meant to know. : -)
  • The rugby was good.

    That's all!
  • I just wish Pardew would shut up...Im begining to lose faith and reading his post match comments makes me feel like throwing up at times. Im not depressed or calling for anybodies head, just fed up with the Pardew spin...maybe he ought to go into politics.
  • I don't know how Pards can say we were unlucky. We never, ever looked like scoring today. Why on earth would you pick short-arse Lita to play up front on his own in a 4-5-1 formation? It's just not going to work. I thought we looked laboured all over the pitch today. Even with 3 men in central midfield we struggled to compete with the far more aggressive Ipswich midfield. Our wide men have forgotten how to get to the byline & put in a decent cross. And, to be honest, why would they bother because there was nobody to get on the end of any such crosses anyway.

Pards has completely lost the balance of the team that worked well before Xmas. Fast, attacking fullbacks supporting fast attacking wingers playing the ball to fast attacking forwards. The whole thing has slowed right down & become so flipping laboured!! I can quite easily see us losing at home to WBA and Wolves unless he can find something to make a difference.

Oh well, nice day out spoiled by a crappy game of football. Let's just hope Pards can sort this mess out in the Summer. This team has NO chance of getting inthe play offs the way they are playing at the moment.
  • make no mistake we will lose to wba, they are a good side, and will beat us (if i am wrong i eat my hat)! Wolves on the other hand, we should beat, and probably will cos they are basicallly us but gold! But nowi said that we'lllose to crap wolves and beat albion!

This is charlton as i remember em back in the day!

Just please england dont blow the cricket, or the world will one less ginger lion!
  • Hi Ollie, you were two rows behind me today but I didn't get a chance to say Hi. Sorry. What was that argument about in the second half when the guy behind me started having a go at the guy two rows in front for standing up?!? Very odd behaviour.
  • Well said Red Pete. I wil go one stage further.........Andy Reid.

never replaced him and it is now showing. Anytime th eball is played to Holland or Semedo the ball is played back again to ta defender, who is then closed down and has to resort in lumping it forward. Reidy (or a player like him) would turn inside and start moving forwad with it - then releasing it to a winger or striker.

until we get a creative forward player midfielder then we are going no-where. ZZ does his bit but I feel he is better used further up the pitch.

Red Pete It was over ZZ and hes form. The poor bloke saying ZZ is in poor form was nearly in tears pleading with the guy saying dont be silly. The bloke was really disraught on what shape we were in. I felt the same :-(

The midfield was poor today there was loads of spaces where ipswich partolled in

yo pete, no worries mate, although you could of started 'goodbye beard' and i would of seen you then!!.

well i saw that, but you can ask left behind yourself as it was him doing his piece at the other chap but at that time i was stood at the back of the block to the left of where i was originally, so i caNT TELL YOU!
  • I thought we played alright, just didn't have any luck. Three "offside" goals, hit the bar before they scored. I thought Counago was ar*ehole lucky with his shot. I'd like to see him do that again anytime soon. What was clear though is that our play was ponderous, not incisive. We over elaborated far too much. It reminded me of so many recent England performances. Players unsure of exactly what they should do with the ball, passing it square or lumping it forward.

What I can't understand is how we could have played so well against Palarse, extremely confidently and focussed yet in recent games we play like strangers. I realise some of that is down to the chopping and changing but that doesn't explain why.

What I'd like to know is why is our most potent and lively striker being left on the bench in place of a player who is so glaringly short of match fitness/sharpness. Varney makes things happen, even when he's not scoring. He put in the best cross of the game soon after he came on.

As for Gray - well perhaps somebody can clear up for me whether he actually touched the ball when he came on?

I enjoyed the day out, which was great apart from the 90 minutes of football....:-)

[cite]Posted By: Kap10[/cite]srill 21 points to play for, its in our own hands, I did the predictor thing had us down to lose v Burnley, Tractors and West Brom and we still get to the play offs - so lets not panic!!!!!

Not panicing Kap, just REALLY disappointed that we're now looking to have to put a run together to make the play-offs

    I am :-)

Agree Bing about Varney though a Thatcher cross was the best of the match when no bugger bothered to attack it... ooo the strickers were on the bench,

I think our defense is a joke trying to play the offside trap and getting it wrong. Playing Ambrose out wide wrong.

Gray held the ball up and played others in. We started to tick when Gray and Varney came on. Gray and Varney I can see will be good next year. Team for WBA

    Weaver
    Motokil Mccarthy Magic Youga
    Varney Holland Semedo/ZZ Ambrose Thomas
    Gray.
  • IMO we were shit - end of.
  • 'What was that argument about in the second half when the guy behind me started having a go at the guy two rows in front for standing up?!? Very odd behaviour.'

Blokes in front slagging off the team, manager, club etc. Blokes behind saying get behind them or don't bother coming if you're just going to slag off.
  • Cant understand why despite going 2 goals down,we didnt bring our best striker (varney) on untill 10 mins from the end.He did more in that ten mins than some others did in 80. Not slagging the bloke off,but how many more games can Halford get away with playing like that. Youga was dropped after 1 or 2 dodgey games.
  • i'm very much a glass half full charlton supporter but i was fooked off when i got home last night. to take all those supporters to ipswich and then play so half-heartedly is starting to test my patience. having recovered this morning and started again to try to look on the bright side i am now baffled to read on the OS that pardew thinks we controlled the game. admittedly we have played worse but that was by no means an acceptable performance for me and to say we controlled the game has thrown me and knocked my confidence in AP. i am also baffled as to why we left £5m worth of strikers on the bench, especially Varney who for me is probably our best striker, certainly the one that does the most running. thomas did ok yesterday too, i think he worked hard.

saying that tho i still haven't given up hope and i will be off to barsley and QPR etc. in the meantime i'm off to wembley to see my football club ebbsfleet in the fa trophy.
  • Quite amazing how Halford keeps starting. Poor Yassin, if only he was Parkinson's bud.

Again yesterday Pards waited far too long to bring on Varney/Gray.

And how ironic when we finally started to play quick passing football on the floor we looked decent, shame it happened in the last 4 minutes.

  • Bugger I left 4 minutes from the end
  • Palace fan here (In peace)

It's quite remarkable how similar your views are currently as to what ours were like when we came down from the Premiership albeit it only being one season. As you won it relatively comfortably last time you were hear, I suppose it's acceptable to think you should be doing a lot better than you are now. The quality of this division isn't great, we all know that but I can assure you, failure to go up this season will make it even harder next season.

Obviously the sale of Darren Bent went along way into restructuring your finances but clearly, you are still making a loss. If you don't go up next season, players will want to leave. I was surprised ZZ joined you as he said he'd never play in the Championship when you were relegated so he's a prime example of players who will probably depart the club. We lost the likes of McAnuff, Darren Ward, Gabor Kiraly etc who were all high earners and "luckily" for us, Taylor brought in a lot of dead wood.

Anyway, I don't expect Palace to go up, we're not good enough as we've shown against you unfortunately twice this season. We've got the battling capabilities to give us hope yet as shown by our position. I really can assure you though, the longer you stay in this division, the worse your finances, fanbase and squad will become and if Palace were to go up, even with our current squad, with the money in the Premiership nowerdays you'd be a fool not to grab it instead of waiting another year.
  • Fair one mate, your side seem to match up with most sides in this division in that you don't have pace in abundance, have two fairly solid big centre halves, a hard working midfield and aim to do much of your attacking from set plays. You also from what I hear have a fair few players who are slightly fat and lazy (Ifil) and maybe one or two who are simply not good enough. Also with no major playmaker creativity is scant.

We seem to be heading the same way!!
  • What pisses me off most is not being in this league.

Its that coping with the financials of relegation and challenging for promotion is a financial nightmare that is just fecking madness. Richard Murray is one of the shrewdest level headed money men around and hes got it wrong.

Despite parachute payments its still ludicrous. Not sure what the solution is but I think it would be better if players contracts were fully adjustable to the league the income generates and the transfer window didnt operate in january.
