I made a (fairly soberish) observation at the Preston game that at the start of the 2nd half when the upper north was partially populated that when the team come out and started fairly well the atmosphere was much more positive and supportive......but once the bods who'd been in the bar since 3.30 returned the mood completely changed and the booing commenced.
[cite]Posted By: cafc_se7[/cite]No thats fair enough mate and i apologise for saying that in the first place because it came across in way different to how i wanted it to!But i really do think to many of our supporters have the premiership expectation in them and that can only be down to people that had no recall of what it was like before, now im not saying that includes everybody who didnt go to charlton before then! But the amount of people at the valley who start booing from the first five minutes...its as if it is weekly routine for them and it really fucks me off!Me and my dad have a four hour round trip to the valley every home game and listening to these idiots just makes it so less enjoyable!I just dont understand why we have so many booers...ok the performances have not been to good recently but for example....(think it was the hull game) lloyd sams first cross of the game fell at the near post and was cleared....the amount of people that started booing....it was unbelievable and quite frankly embarrassing!
Your points are valid se7 but if I can play devils advocate, why should we not have high expectations?
If you accept mediocrity then the chances are that is what you will get. I'm not saying that the team should be boo'd after 5 minutes but then neither should a sub standard performance be accepted because it's still "better than the bad old days" I ofthen think that the "look where we have come from" argument is used as an excuse.
If anyone expected us to stroll through games and piss this division then I'd have said that that was unrealistic however that doesn't mean that we shouldn't have expected promotion given the money we have spent and the teams in the division.
I honestly think that it was a lack of ambition that cost us before and I would hate to see it happen again.
Listen when fans come to blows against each other it has feck all to do with the players it is down to the individuals themselves lets get that out first, we all have opinions, we all would like to smack someone when they get on your tits or you disagree with what they are doing or saying, It is if you do not have the self control to not resort in violence to get your opinion heard. I personally wont come to blows with anyone unless
a, I am in danger of getting it first or my family are at risk full stop.
If people have gone to go at the players after a match then that is your entitlement and who am i to say that you shouldnt.nor would i
Anyone who adopts my stance of get your head up and get us out of the mess you have placed us in and sort it out you are embarrsing me and yourselves. then no one has the right to tell me that they are wrong.
Anyone who over steps that line with me and offers me out and i think that you mean it then well game on.
if you got abused for encouraging Carl then taht is well out of order
Im sorry but it doesnt matter how much money we have spent...i think we would of beaten more teams in the premiership this season than the championship....they are all tough, battling teams who do not make it easy for you at all!Our fans have come down thinking were going to have a party not realising that there are a lot of tough teams! The sooner they get that in their heads the better! As for why the team itself is underperforming so much this season....I think it is because we have to many players who think exactly the same as some of the fans...that there going to have an easy ride. You need committed players in this league which explains why matty holland and paddy are contenders for player of the season. If thats how the fans think the players will improve...by booing them, then thats their choice. But i for one detest it and i think if our home support was much better we could properly get behind them and rally them on through games!Like we did against stoke!!!!
Im not, i seriously think we would have had more chance of beating sunderland, derby, reading, bolton and so on!Rather than bristol city, west brom, watford, stoke, hull, burnley etc...
PBS's post is in contrast to my more home-game orientated viewpoint. I'd be p***ed off after all that.
Still hope we can start singing from the same (positive) songsheet soon as I reckon it'd make following Charlton a far better experience.
A difference of opinions away from the actual game is better than if we all said the same thing, but when it comes to the action maybe we could get more out of hearing VFR sung by 10-20,000 people than 2,000 win or lose.
Bands often say playing a gig in London is a pain as the crowds are so ready to be unimpressed, whereas elsewhere in the country the crowd are more likely to be ready to have a good time. Not saying in football that it is an exclusively London thing, but if we are having a good/better time anyway maybe the players can enjoy themselves a bit more as well.
I can get shot down by the regular away goers and that is their right, but at the Valley I want it to be the best place possible atmosphere wise and I am fairly sure no-one can argue with that. The current way clearly isn't working. I am only asking that people might go with the attitude that they want to enjoy themselves more!
