looking on the bright side

we're only one point behind where we would have been last season in the corresponding fixtures, so no panic there...as much as everybody sees man u's fans as arsholes, there's no denying that fergie has put together a great team which, given a little bit of luck last night, we could have unexpectedly nicked something off...if i thought dowie and his team got one thing wrong on the night it was the substitutions should have been a double on (not seperate) and they should have come earlier in the second half...romms pace would have told eventually and would have at the very least pushed them onto the back foot a bit instead of camping in our goal area...and i was well impressed with ambrose last night, this could be his year to set the pl alight...

  • Yep Romm should have come on with around 30 mins to go and Marcus Bent too, attack can sometimes be the best form of defence. Fair play to Charlton they worked hard but with around 20 mins left they looked knackered and weren't threatening them, by then the subs should have been on.
  • Ambrose has the talent but he needs a stronger midfield around him.
  • and since we lost 0-1 at home to bolton last season, a draw tomorrow would put us level with points gained from last season's corresponding fixtures and a win would put us ahead of last season...
  • I am looking forward to tomorrow. It is a game where we must get up and at them from the off, and a better fixture on which to gauge our prospects this season.
  • Missed the game on Wednesday ( stupid day for a wedding) but watched the recording the next day. I thought Romerdahl didn't look bad when he came on. I'd like to see him start on Saturday
  • and now we're 2 points ahead of the corresponding fixtures for last season...
  • we're still ahead (by one) of the points gained from the corresponding fixtures last season...
  • I like what your doing here LTGTR.......
  • But, after 4 games, it's our worst ever start to a Premiership season...........

I love a bit of doom and gloom

you just need to get a bit of perspective...we're one point up on the corresponding fixtures for last season so we must be having a better one already...and take a look at the fixtures coming up:

pompey home (last season won 2-1)
    villa away (lost 0-1)
    arsenal home (lost 0-1)
    fulham away (lost 1-2)
    watford home
    newcastle away (drew 0-0)
    man city home (lost 2-5)
    wigan away (lost 0-3)

so loads of scope there for improving even further on last season...

  • we're only two points behind the total gained from the corresponding fixtures for last season and can only improve on that over the next few fixtures even if we only manage to draw one of the next three games...

Nothing from the 1st game, and can't see us getting anything from the next two either......

looking at the table, our position is still something that a couple of back to back wins can still do wonders for...we just need romm to run into the box with the ball rather than delivering it from the edge of it...
  • so a win next week will put us ahead on points gained for the games played against the same clubs last season...
  • if thats true (and i don't doubt you ltgtr...) that is very interesting, and encouraging i suppose.

Just a shame though that the fixture list has seemingly been unkind to us.
  • that's a very interesting statistic, but its hard to compare because we also had that run at the start where we won 5 out of 6.

Do you still believe we are capable of putting a 5 out of 6 run at any stage this season ?
  • i think this squad looks more than capable of doing it...its got a solid look about it...i think they just need to get a win or two under their belts and then they can quietly get into their stride...
  • not sure about 6 wins on the spin, but i can see us spanking 4 past a couple of teams though.

    agreee 100% ltgtr

dowie should sit dennis down in front of a tv showing him videos of c. ronaldo, as soon as he picks up the ball his first instinct is to attack, runs at the full back, gets into the box and then either shoots or lays the ball off...none of this dollying chips aimlessly into the middle.
  • Yeah that well anooys me when he does that stoopid chipped cross, nofucker is ever gonna get any power on the header as it is tough when there aint no pace on the cross, whip it in, put it in the area of uncertainty, we would score more goals for sure.

  • I admire all your optimism, but I just can't see it happening. Where are the goals going to come from? Our attacking options are so lacking that I can quite easily see us doing a Sunderland. Sorry, just my personal, pessimistic point of view but we must be significantly odds-on for relegation now.
  • 3 clean sheets on the trot gives me cause for optimism.

Get that sorted, keep it sorted and then start working on other areas of the pitch. If we don't concede goals then we wont lose.

I must admit though, we need to start scoring goals (other than DB).
  • Romm has no final ball, we focus on Reid's lack of a killer pass, but Romm is just as guilty, if not more so. Several times he had good crossing chances, and punted an inaccurate ball in. Similarly at corners - every corner he takes is mis-directed. In my opinion they (the coaches) need to direct someone to come out to him at corners and when he gets past his man on the wing to make space near the front post, Romm just can't pass with any accuracy over 10-15 yards.
  • [cite] BlackForestReds:[/cite]Romm has no final ball, .

The first half was a prime example of the frustration surrounding Romm. 20 minutes you didn't even know he was on the pitch. Then he goes and skips past the bloke like he was a statue.

And then you don't see him again for 20 minutes...
  • Then he goes and skips past the bloke like he was a statue

If it's the incident I'm thinking of he literally left Titus Bramble on hia arse, went past him but when it came to crossing the ball you just knew it was going to be a harmless punt into the box and so it proved...
  • I find myself just really wanting him to him to just go alone.... I reckon hes got it he just needs to sack everybody else off and just go alone ...... sod it....
  • so now we're ahead on points gained from the corresponding fixtures against the same clubs last season...and still in the carling cup...and 4 consecutive clean sheets...and the atmosphere is ten times better than it has been for a couple of years or more...and we've got THE proven english pl goalscorer in our side...and you can look down at the team from your lofty seat and think everyone of them has something special to contribute...let the good times roll...
  • i still love this stat, it makes me chuckle
  • Good stat - wouldn't work if you swapped Watford for Sunderland of course!
IF (if if if if if) we beat Chesterfield, the club should refer to this stat too to show things aren't so bad!

PS How've you assigned the promoted teams to the relegated ones?
  • PS How've you assigned the promoted teams to the relegated ones?

I haven't...its purely a comparison between those games played last season and this...but if you want to compare watford at home to west brom at home, last season we drew 0-0 and this season we drew 0-0...
