West Ham, the club that perennially underachieves, has yo-yo'd through much of it's history yet a West Ham fan with a decent track record kept them up last year with Tevez help I'll grant you, but even so an incredible feat given where they were in the league and their fixture run in which saw them beat both Arsenal and Man U.
I know I am a Curbs fan but frankly, what do they expect? Safety with ten games or so to go. A season where so many players have been injured. Beaten Man U again. Sometimes I'm just left almost lost for words..........
Stats from yesterday - West Ham had three shots on and four off-target, that at home and playing against ten men for half the match. I'm personally glad those days are gone.
Cant say i was a "Curbs is God" member. Ithought he stayed at least one year to long. He isbe a legend for us no doubt about it.His endless twaddle about how much he loves the Irons does get on me nerves. But dont want him to go belly up over there either, i think he might do though. He still seems to have this inbuilt fault that if someone pi55es himoff thats their lot . Some of the amounts he payed for players (Boa Morti)was madness. Playing only one up front against 10 men when your 3 nil down !! very Curbs like.
I did have a wry smile seeing as though he's in relative safety, had a match against one of the "big four" at home, had 3 decent strikers available and played 4-5-1, played against 10 men for half the match and lost 4-0!
I reckon West Ham to finish top 6 could be worth a punt this season despite the Chelsea result I shall ask at the bookies if I remember.
Chelsea had to respond to losing to the Spuds in the Carling Cup and it is a fact that 9 times out of 10 Man U Arsenal and Chelsea will win if they are "up" for a game.
To be fair he's got West ham in the top half and safe by March when he's been without Ashton, Parker, Dyer and Bellamy for large parts of the season. What do their fans expect?
well maybe theythink "we have 40 points and we aint going down, we have spent cart loads of dosh, why aint we going for a win ?"
If Curbs had played3 up front would he have been any worse off after 15 mins ? and he could have told the World he was going for the win.
Same thing with Fulham on Saturday. It was damage limitation from the start. Sad to say i think we would have done the same. How can any set of fans enjoy "the prem experiance" when you just trying to stop the top 3 scoring to many against you and hoping you can beat enough "also rans" to stay up ?
Well the same as I always did, a decent cup run. How many did we have when we were Prem? Two quarter finals? One of them was just a day out too.In fact of course we were not in the Prem in '94 sorry.
To have not beaten Boro at home a couple of years ago was the biggest missed oppotunity of modern times.
Nearly every west ham fan I know wanted a season of mid table stability, especially after the drama's of last season, which is exactly what we have got. But it is so bloody boring. We're kind of in no-mans land. We win and we don't climb the table. We lose and we stay where we are as we're 8 points above spurs in 11th.
Its been that way for a while now. Its really frustrating going to games knowing that the result isn't going to matter that much, as we'll still be comfortably in 10th. Thats why us fans are getting frustrated. We want something to play for. We want to kick on and close out the season battling for a european spot.
We've been spoilt for drama at the boleyn for the previous 5 seasons (relegation, losing play off final, winning play off final, fa cup final then last seasons great escape), its a shock to the system to get into the 1st week in march and have no excitement.
Got to give curbishley his due though, he has performed fantastically for us results wise in the year and a bit he's been here, especially this year given the injuries. But he could definitely do with having a midlife crisis and life on the edge a bit, the "too f*cking negative" chants he got at fulham a week back were spot on in my book.
[cite]Posted By: Carter[/cite]Welcome to our old world Morts
Yeah. Me I've never kicked over the traces and so Curbs was the ideal manager from my perspective...;-)
Seriously though, I don't think Curbs is incapable of building an attractive team, I would argue that he's on his way to doing that but with the injuries, he won't take any chances. If all the players are fit, I think West Ham might truly challenged for a Euro spot (although probably not this term).
If any side whether managed by Curbs, Pards, Wenger or Ferguson had a fully fit squad of players that West Ham could pull together from what is on their books didn't get into europe then I would be asking serious questions, however I thought Jeffers, Murphy and Denise would be our platform for success so what do I know?"!?!
jeffers was worth a punt no one could know that he would be a pi55head. Rom`I dont think we ever really played to his strengths, still stuns me that his best game was against the Arse when he tool CashleyNoMates to the cleavers bur Curbs subbed him ? As for Murphy he was doing well fell out with Curbs and that was his lot.
I wonder if Curbs had held his nerve and told the board "We keep Parker or i go" where would be today. Im sure if he had done that we could have played in Europe that season. maybe it was the lure of the extra transfer money that Curbs didnt fight that hard to keep him? I did think if Curbs had the money that Dowie was given he would have got better players. Not 100 % on that now though , he has paid well over the odds for some at WHU. I dont think he wouldhave gone for Taori or Faye mind u on the other hand he did pay £2M on Big Bent before he went. Playing one up front at home against a lower league club in the cup did me, cant see the logic at all in that and o dear what a surprise we lost.

"too f*cking negative" .
That's the funniest thing I've read on here for ages.
Thanks for that because I've been wondering recently if we had made a mistake.
I've been watching MOTD thinking 'if only to be lost in mid-table obscurity again'
The thing was that I'd forgotten that it wasn't being in mid-table that annoyed me - it was the apparent lack of desire to go any better, or take any risks when there was nothing to lose. And doing crap in the cups when we should have had a chance of winning one - as DJDD said.
Couple of Whammy moaners on 606, He's had enough time etc etc,,,
One said that he was quoted last week as saying "We've got our 40 points, now it's time to entertain the fans"
Well he got that right, but I didn't realise he was talking about Chelsea and Liverpool fans!

not doing it the "west ham way" etc etc.

Deja vu!
If they're not in the top six after ten games expect him to be shown the door!

I also thought Ambrose should of played just behind baby Bent in the replay as we were so flat with Bent and Bartlett.
I believe we would of beat West Ham in the semi's and am still pretty bitter about that

Wed 5th March, Away to Liverpool.
1 down after no time and all at sea.
Comments on 5Live before and during the game about Curbs pedigree for the last 1/4 of the season......
He'll pick a team to keep scoring down to 2 or 3 goals against, rather than take a risk and try for an equaliser.
Time for Alan Cautiously to bring on a couple more defenders. Damage limitation is the key.
That's the funniest thing I've read on here for ages.

Ha ha ha.
I'd love to get them in the cup next year
scored 0 conceded 8
It must feel to him that he never left Charlton ......
