It was a solicitors' office when I was a kid, was some kind of charity's office more recently.
Sad to see it go, I remember seeing some old newsreel footage from the 50s of huge crowds streaming up Charlton Church Lane, and that building was there, with the same street sign it had until the building went down.
Wonder where the "FLOYD ROAD SE7" sign on the other corner got to?
the little cafe is still there isn't it? just closed and covered over? there was no notice to say they were closing down or anything....really strange. They've stopped the demoltion before they get to it, so bit surprised now if they knock it down? very strange though, work has definately stopped for a bit.
[cite]Posted By: Curb_It[/cite]the launderette has gone. and my favourite cafe and not really sure what was there. i think it was a furniture maker workshop, entrnace on floyd road.
I was hoping for a little bistro or something - nice wine bar type of thing.
But the young lad in the newsagents thinks its new flats.
Has the laundrette gone?! I use that sometimes when I can't be arsed to use the washing machine.

Shame to demolish the oldest and most architecturally interesting building in the lower part of Charlton Church Lane.
Probably dated from about 1840 and would have been built as a quality detached house surrounded by open fields at the time.
Why don't we value our heritage?
Especially if only to replace it with nondescript flats.
I suppose it's just the way of a money-grubbing developer in the money-grubbing at all costs 21st Century.
The Building used to be both an Estate Agents and Solicitors. It was to be turned into flats but whilst demolishing realised that the adjacent building (launderette) was subsiding. Property developer cannot afford structural works to remaining building and complete flats, therefore Launderette is temporarily shored up and works stopped. Should you require any further gossip relating to within SE7 please do not hesitate to ask, I will then in turn ask my missis.
thats nice then. going to be a building site there for months on end till someone can cough up? imagine taking on a project without any extra cash in pocket for little eventualities like subsidence.

Seriously, this could have been made into open space to ease crowding problems on match days.

With the chavs hanging around that corner most nights, it doesn't sound like an appealling option on any day!
Disgusting mate
I remember walking past that building after Barnsley and having a chat about that sign with someone. Hmmm!
Be nowhere to be seen 2mo night i bet! lol
